YES! There’s my boys! I love the IIIrd Legion. They’re my favorite Traitor Legion and my favorite Legion period in the pre-heresy era. I love their color scheme, their champions, and their sense of style (pre-Heresy their armor was just beautiful to look at!). But what I love most of all is that they perfectly represent just how far you can fall when you turn to chaos. While there were exceptions to this, such as Saul Tarvitz, the pre-Heresy III'rd were considered excessively proud and presumptive. Their command staff, like Eidolon, were notorious for treating other legions like dung on his boot heel. Part of that may be the influence of their geneseed and flat out arrogance. But it is also rooted in an uncomfortable fact about the III'rd that haters like to ignore. They were really, really good. And not just at siege tactics, or melee, or asymmetrical warfare, or the other "specializations" that characterized the other legions. They were good at everything they did. The best? No, unless you ask them (which was part of the problem). Were they better than, say, the Imperial Fists at defensive operations? No, but they were closer to the Fists than almost any other legion in that regard. And they were that way at practically everything they did. They were nipping at the heels of every other legion, constantly reminding them that if they didn’t stay on top of their game they’d lose their spot as the best at "INSERT TACTIC HERE." Their whole thing was that they were obsessive perfectionists, especially after Fulgrim got involved. In the main that made them amazing soldiers who were exacting in their conduct. Failure in any aspect of their performance would trigger them to ensure it never happened again. In some cases failure focused individuals to become the pre-eminent experts in a particular subject. Everyone loves to point out how Lucius lost to Loken in a blade duel, but practically no one talks about Loken's realization later on that he could never beat Lucius a second time after seeing how much Lucius had improved as a result of his loss. Imagine that. Your legion is known for being the best at TACTIC, but you know that there’s this guy in the III'rd who is just as good at TACTIC as your people are. If not better. Maybe it's only one, but he's there. That's a bitter pill for transhuman war machines to swallow. And post-Heresy? Their obsession with perfectionism condensed into a singularity of perversion and excess. Many of the other legions that fell still retain a purpose that drives them. The Thousand Sons still want to delve into the mysteries of the Warp and pursue hidden or forbidden knowledge. The Death Guard want to spread Nurgle’s gifts to every corner of the universe. The Word Bearers want to convert everyone in the Imperium to Chaos worship. The Alpha Legion still want to carry out their intricate schemes and strategies. The Night Lords, the high school bullies of the Traitor Legions, still want to torture and terrify anyone weaker than themselves. The Iron Warriors still want to prove that they’re better than the Imperial Fists, and of course we all know what became of the Sons of Horus. Even the World Eaters warbands still have a goal in the midst of their blood-rage: slaughter in the name if Khorne's ascendancy, where once they did so in the name of the Imperium. The IIIrd Legion, though, is different. They don’t have any goals beyond experiencing new sensations, everything and everyone else be damned. Slaanesh exposed them to the worlds of excess that their warrior conditioning and iron-clad discipline had denied them, and they became as obsessed with that as they were with being perfect warriors. And that's one of the most tragic aspects about them. When their focus on self-improvement was overridden and replaced by their compulsion for self-indulgence, they lost what made them such a powerhouse in the Crusade. And after the Heresy, once it got even worse for the once-mighty IIIrd. Their constant need for new slaves and flesh toys led them to begin attacking the other Traitor Legions. This led directly to the Legion Wars, which Abbadon ended by crashing a space hulk into Harmony and in so doing shattered whatever unity the Emperor’s Children still had. Of all the Traitor Legions, their fall was the furthest, the swiftest, the most unexpected, and the most needless. Once they were the Emperor’s most devoted servants, to the point where He gave them the Palatine Aquila, His personal Sigil, to wear on their armor as a mark of His esteem. No other Legion ever attained such a glorious honor, not even the Sons of Horus. Compare that to what the IIIrd Legion is now.

“Then came the screaming serpent. Vast it was, it’s wings blocking out the sky. It’s three swords cut men in half with each sweep. It’s whip hand simply beckoned and I watched in horror as the stormtroopers engaging it fell to their knees, then toppled face first into the mud. What that hated thing was, I can only guess but it haunts me every waking moment. Something tells me I witnessed nothing more than ++REDACTED++” the traitor host The Great Cacophony engaging aeldari and imperials in the blood of the Phoenix book, psychic awakening. Could this be a tease for the return of fulgrim? Personally I think so.

The Emporer's Children are my favourite pre-heresy legion and Fulgrim my favourite primarch. Didnt always feel that way. They just stood out to me as odd when I read their lore over 10 years ago. They stood there, in the back of my head so I kept thinking about them and trying to puzzle them out. Now I love them and Clonegrim needs to be given a loyalist chapter of his own pronto. That said i kinda prefer the old lore to newer lore. I think their Heresy book did them pretty dirty. While the old lore describes a process where they slowly became corrupted and why they made the choices they did, the new lore, in my mind, robs them of all their agency. Fulgrim wasnt convinced by Horus, he was brainwashed by a sword. His legion likewise were undermined not by their pride, but by the chaotic taint of the Laer temple and Bile's combat stims made them instant stimulation junkies. This is basically confirmed when the THIRD of the legion they had to purge for being loyalists were comprised of the Marines who either didnt take the new combat drugs or never visited the temple. Now we have the weird situation where ever other traitor legion walked the path to damnation themselves but for Fulgrim's boys, who didnt so much walk that path as were dragged unconscious down it by Fabius and a daemon. I always thought it was weird how chill and loyal and normal they sounded in their early years compared to the psychos they ended up being. I think its definatly the most drastic transformation of the lot. Sadly I didnt get to see their worst selves were cultivated and built up into a twisted mockery of their former ideals. That's bit what happened. That happened to The Thousand sons, the Night Lords and even the lunar wolves. Instead they might as well have all been possessed by daemoms for all the influence they had in their own downfall. In current lore, there is no good reason for them to side with Horus. If they never went to Laeran or just bombed it from orbit then they never would. Sorry. I think too much about this and care more hen is healthy. I tend to get worked up as a result. Brilliant video btw. Cant wait for some of the ones down the line

Poor guys. Fulgrim was corrupted against his will by powers out of his control. His boys were victims of their own loyalty. They're my favorite as far as lore goes. I wish they weren't a traitor legion, but i guess they'd be much less interesting if they weren't.

Not their loyalty. Their weakness. Some stayed sane but most succumbed to the pleasures Fulgrim has showed them. Its the fate of a lot of artists to go insane or get drugged at one point or the other. the 3rd was no differen. For me the weakest and most pathetic legion of them all. Demigods of war falling to mortal pleasures

Of all the Traitor Primarchs, Fulgrim's fall is the most tragic, were as many of the traitors chose of free will Fulgrim was possessed quite a few times for him to do horrible things, the demon using him as a meat suit only. After he realize all this, he was destroyed by all this and gave into his fate. I believe that this also fragmented Fulgrim's soul and that fragment went into the Fulgrim clone, and the clone DESPISES what the original Fulgrim has done and seeks to one day kill the original.

Not criticism, great job with this dude. But at one point you seem to mention that Fulgrim was converted by the words of Horus on Instavan and perhaps the handing over of the tainted laer blade occurred here but ultimately Fulgrim didn't turn then, it ate away at him over time. Also, the mentioning of the 7 legions being dispatched seems to imply that the discussion occurred DURING the Instavan massacre and that the EC were a part of the assault. But they weren't they one of the legions already planetside allied openly with Horus? Did I misinterpret what u meant or was this purposefully part of the telling and meant to be of the imperial record which just doesn't speak to the reality of what actually happened?
