i think you can use the yt editor to cut out the incorrect part. many ppl don't read comments, because they only listen to the audio.
This one is little bit shorter, bcs one of the complaints on the last one was that it felt stretched out. Any feedback, as always, is very appreciated.

It's a fine line to thread, that of not stretching out for content and not skipping any information nor speaking too fast. This seems a little on the point, but I'm not sure how to improve it any more :T Nice series tho, very important for new or lazy players, like me.
While many other youtubers are talking about damage cap build setup, crazy synergies and build, I like how MCGamer just stick with explaining the concept of some end-game feature to everyone, and I think new players are definitely the one getting the most out of it. This alone is just impressive, many new players quit this game because how some concept is left in fog. You deserve a thank you!

And this is exactly the kind of mechanic that could give them the confidence to try going for higher levels if they like! I strongly dislike the section of players who insist something is bad if it doesn't work vs. level-cap, hell, a lot of those builds are overkill and SLOW for normal levels, but that said... I love knowing my build would hold up if I were to stick around for longer. I remember when we didn't have shield-gating yet, endurance was really strange to get into. So, you're saying in this game about heing a hybrid between a ninja, wrecking ball and fighter jet, I'm supposed to hide in this corner?
For the longest time I had no idea what or how shield gating worked. This was not only informative but enough for me to be able to follow along to understand how it works
You are one of the most informative KZreadrs I have ever subscribed to I've been playing Warframe for let's just say a little less than a year now I'm rank 10 on one of my accounts and I'm only rank six on my other I've just been looking for guides that are quick simple and easy and you have literally been my number one source for Warframe information You just have such a chill atmosphere about these videos and watching your videos relaxes me after a stressful day
You know Uncle MC. There are loads of videos on shield gating on this platform, but up untill now I have never fully understood how it works and how to utilize it. Now I do. Thank you
I never built for shield gating, it was never something I cared about. Even after all the buffs, I'm still going to build for health tank and regen because that's what I like.

Health/armor/mitigation tanking is feasible on a lot of warframes...but not on all of them. Numerous warframes need a majority of the mod space to be dedicated to ability _ % boost mods, or it just won't be very effective. This is when shield gating shines. 2 mods handle most of your survivability, and the rest can be put towards abilities and/or utility. Or you can just play Revenant and be functionally invulnerable with no investment in survivability whatsoever.
@SamanthaLaurier

@@DrewBoivie Here's the thing: The way I play works for the content I play. I don't do super high level stuff where shield gating is the only real defense. I do normal Starchart stuff and the weekly Archon missions, sometimes a Steel Path Incursion. I don't do multi-hour SP Survival missions, I've never hit level cap, and I don't enjoy that kind of gameplay.

@@SamanthaLaurierArmor + Adaptation scales perfectly well until lvl 4-5000. People who tell you that's what they play regularly...are lying. Shield gating is a very focused way to play. I would actually hesitate to call it "the best" defense since it is so prone to accidental failure. For example a self driving, flying car sounds like the "best" way to commute because it's so fast and easy, but when a simple check engine light means I crater into an apartment building, killing myself and a family of 5, then I'll give the whole thing a pass.

This...... is a new series. I would like to see these types of videos as part of your content. A lot of warframe players are just spouting off on things like shieldgating without actually explaining the reason why, and other topics as well. More videos of this nature would be nice.
The Capacitance volt augment mod makes your volt replenish shields for everyone in your team, while locking an entire room of enemies in cc. It’s been my go to build for clearing the steel path star chart.
You are talking more to your audience in these latest ones. And your humor and YOU are coming through. Enjoying the upbeat education, sir, and even though I am legendary 3, I still learn stuff from you, dude!
The main thing seen a lot is what I assume are endurance players (that or I have no idea how they take so much damage in the regular/SP part of the game) creating builds and then pinning Shield gating up as the only solution, with the term "viable" getting thrown around a lot. I wouldn't entirely put it in the accessible strategy camp either, having to dump like 1/3 of your Warframes mod slot into it and also staple on some kind of infinite energy economy. With the toxin weakness also not withstanding (and that awkward moment when a nullifier or a comba/demolyst pulse just decides to pull a Denied on your cast.)
@excaligaming2435
9 ай бұрын
What? It's exactly the opposite. Shield gating is the cheapest survivability to build for. All you need is Brief Respite and Catalyzing shields, with the aura mod slot being a relatively weak slot anyway so not much loss there. Then, depending on if you run Blind Rage or not you just add a few augurs, which can be outsourced to your secondary. With building Shields you need Redirection, 1-2 recharge mods and optimally a whole arcane slot for aegis. Big investment. Health modding is even more expensive, requiring very expensive umbra mods and extra slots for armor, which only gives a benefit on frames that already come with proper base armor. Then you need to build for some tech to replenish that health pool. But, not only is health modding the most expensive and restrictive, it is also entirely useless in endurance. With the recent shield changes, you can at least make a point for shield modding, but it's still that much more expensive than just going for shield gating and calling it a day and enjoy the freedom of actually creating a build with all those slots available. Still, if all you do is run base steel path, it really doesn't matter at all what you're doing anyway. Game is so powercrept, you can literally slap on anything for that. For high level play, the game does get kind of binary though, because every stray bullet far exceeds any EHP you can possibly build for. I don't say that is good design, but that is what DE leaves us with, sadly.

And as I said, it doesn't matter for base steel path. what the hell does it matter if I get one shot by a toxin cloud once in a blue moon, if I can just instantly resurect without penalty with my operator? like what is that argument? Also, anecdotally, I did ran a level cap infested disruption once with a maxed out health and armor kullervo and I got oneshot by a single tick of toxin cloud already at enemy lvl 2500 through 81% armor DR and 3,2k health. health is objectively the most useless "defense" in the game across all enemy types and factions.

@@josequiles7430 I agree 100%. The current design is just bad, but I am very doubtful this will get changed. This isn't just about numbers, it's also about enemy design AI. They would need to rework literally everything to create a new and balanced difficulty. Since endurance players are just a very very tiny fraction of players, this is far down the to do list, if it's on their list at all.
Im not a fan of shieldgating setups personally, but it's undeniable that when done correctly, it's THE most powerful defensive tool in the game. Health can be chipped away. Crowd Control can be nullified or flat out ignored by Overguard. But nothing can break through the Shield Gate. The only counter to a good Shield Gate is pure toxin damage, destroy the health without ever touching the shields, but that's so rare it may as well not exist, because there'll almost always be something to break your shields.
Aside from the statement which was corrected in your pinned post, in terms of examples given, it's a little funny to me that Atlas is mentioned when his best builds remove the cost cast of Landslide, making his kit is anti-synergistic with Brief Respite and Augur mods; Landslide itself already makes him invulnerable, so if anything, he'd be better suited to bigger shields to make it easier to make it to his next sequence of punches to then take advantage of invulnerability time for recharging them, than he is to Augur mods and Brief Respite.
That last part on how shield gating combines with other elements of survival to become the biggest keystone in a combination of defenses was huge. I can see tons of people in that strawman example of running into SP without thinking and dying.
1:40 the example of having 1150 shield and it taking 2 hits to break would not result in a lower gate, it tracks from what point did your shield start taking damage since last recharge. for example: i have a maximum shield of 1150, it was previously broken and i have since began to recharge it, my shield recharges up to 750 and i take multiple hits of damage without recharging and my shield breaks, i am still given the shield gate timer of ~2 seconds for 750 shield. this is how it has always worked and has not changed other than the time being based on shield amount instead of simply flat values dependent on full shield or not full shield, shieldgating would not be a generally best method of defense if it worked the way it was described here, it would only have been for level cap/high endurance playstyles nevertheless great video on why catalyzing shields + augur is a great method, i used dragon key setup before the rework and i do appreciate the teaching this niche mechanic to more people!

Yes, this is correct !
Shield gating is probably my favorite update they ever did. I'm someone that loves the WF abilities gameplay, really only using my weapons as primers and gating allows me to purely focus on the Waframe build rather than using half my mod space on health, armor, or adaption mods Also because of that it kinda ties my life to my energy pool which is kinda neat. And the recent changes are nice, now you have to invest in it and really think how you want to approach shields with the regen delay mods & catalyzing shields rather then slap on decaying key, rolling guard and have negative efficiency.
really great video! although one thing you could've done is have made this video's main topic (shield gating) visible on the thumbnail/title/or description so that any new player inevitably wondering about shield gating could find this video easier when searching the topic on KZread. I initially thought you were going to talk about the best "defense" mission in the game when I saw the thumbnail and title. Still a great video! I'm loving this series
Just for anyone to know. Shield recharge rate is flat(28,5) + percentage(9,5%) based. So both frames with small and big shield pools can utilize things like Fast Deflection to amazing use. Harrow is probably the biggest user of this mod because he can recharge insane amounts of shield while enemies are chained up and cannot be used to generate more. And since you need to sacrifice shields for a buff. That means that Harrow can pretty much sustain his buff by his recharge rate alone. That's nuts... And yeah, Harrow have something around 9600 EHP(Effective Hit Points) from maxed overshields and Redirection mod. And can replenish it, while providing CC. Dude can survive steel path without rolling guard mod like it's nothing.
This series is fantastic. Admittedly, I don't really watch all of the videos, nor those that I do watch do I see them in their entirety - but I've been playing the game for 10 years. The things you talk about I know, and these videos are for people that don't know. That's precisely why they are great. Warframe's mechanics are as spaghetti as its code, and trying to learn how they all work (without having 10 years to become accustomed to the gradual changes it has been through) it can be awful to try and learn all the nuances of this game. So, great stuff.
Loved this video, feels fresh. I’m also a 8 year vet and this is the first time I actually understood how this works
the reason is simple: health of warframes does not scale with level while the damage received does! the damage reduction stays the same depending on how much armor you have 50%,87%,95%,98% ,same most of defensive skills give 90-95% damage reduction.. a high lvl mob one hit any warframe even if 1% of its damage pass all the defenses.. the shield gate give you time to activate evasion/CC skills or to run for cover
This is the first time I've actually understood shield gating and why it's good, thank you. I had no Idea that it only takes into account the hit that breaks the shield and how much shields you had at that moment. Everyone else has just been shouting "Dragon key = invincible" without ever explaining.
@ascrassin
9 ай бұрын
i like that since the dagath update and dragon key don't work anymore because it now reduces the shield gating time, so you shouldn't use it. Before that, it was 1.33 second flat if you recharged fully your shield since the last time it triggered (nothing if partial recharge). So you reduced your shield with the dragon key (because before dagath it didn't affect shield gate timer) (the mod that reduce shield and flatten the timer didn't exist at the time) the rest is pretty much the same
This is a fucking banger series “but why”. Please don’t stop Edit: oh I just saw your “let’s talk” video :( For me I come and go from warframe. It’s not my full time game so I have hard spurts where I play a lot and consume tons of content. That said, I’m not currently on a binge but this video was epic. And the ceramic dagger one. 1:40 this explanation is wrong. The way shield gating works is it looks at the maximum shields regenerated since your last shield gate and determines your gate time off of that.

Yes, this is correct !
1:54 "...you get hit twice, with the first hit removing 1000 shields and the second hit breaking the rest of them, you're only going to get minimum shield gating duration." This isn't quite accurate since shield gate duration is based on the maximum value your shields reached since they last broke, in this scenario you'd still get the 2.5 second shield gate. If your shields then recharged to 150 before breaking again, that's when you'd get the minimum shield gate.
I really love these “but why?” Videos so helpful you’re the best
I know shield gating is better, but I'd rather just slap some umbral mods on Inaros and call it a day. And frankly, I blame MC for that.

6. Spends 2-3 mods and an arcane slot for the tanking.
part of the when & how hard shield gating (catalyzing shields & brief respite/augur mods, typically low efficiency) works, and why it's so popular is the frames/builds that it enables, it does kinda suck when your KPM isn't pushed to the limits and you can't sustain the high energy cost of spamming something like sonar at 45% efficiency every time you get hit by so much as a light breeze, if you can however it becomes extremely comfortable. Things like arcane energize, nourish, primed flow & natural talent/yellow shards are what it's typically locked behind, not just catalyzing shields, augur set and a decent weapon. Which doesn't help the confusion of people who are just starting to try it.
I really like this format. Much more than "do it because it's meta" . Keep it up
Another thing I love about rolling guard now that I use it is it can cover vulnerability windows such as when you're channeling Thurible on Harrow. You can't do anything to really defend yourself cuz you can't cast condemm or covenant. So, if Covenant is still rolling and I need thurible back, I like to rolling guard, channel, then let my shields break if needed as icing on the cake. It's....very hard to die on harrow if you have shields.
I loveee these in depth videos. They are a charm!!
This is the new era of MCGamerCZ content, and we thank god for it. Amen
I've been watching you for something like 8 years now since your original videos and I must say I love this new style. I do miss the old dumb fun riven videos though.

Shields on Atlas? Run Decaying dragon key go get rid of shields, tank him up and use hunter adrenaline for energy then his 3 augments. You will get bored of steel path survival before ever looking like dying because of free one punch landslide with its invulnerability. Stat stick not included. Great video though, I have never really contemplated shield gating and will reconsider some of my squishier builds.
Inaros: *Primed Fulmination in the background*
Shield gating is an accident. It wasn’t in the game until many years after release. The “why” shield gating even exists in Warframe is because back in day high level enemies were able to one-shot you. And when I say “high level” I mean getting hit by a sniping nullifier 35 minutes into an endless defense mission in the void (which is not even hard these days). Before shield gating, if you took damage that was greater than your shield amount, the remaining damage was instantly dumped into your health pool. If that remaining damage was greater than your health pool, you were instantly killed. This was a common occurrence before shield gating existed. So players had to come up with creative ways to boost their survivability using only health, armor and shields. Needles to say, that had a limit and you ended up not being able to get anywhere near level cap. DE got tired of everyone complaining about being one-shot so easily and shield gating was born. It was only intended to prevent the natural mechanics of the game from letting you die so easily. It was never intended to be used as an actual survival mechanic. Fast forward some years and they’ve made it a permanent mechanic in the game and now it even has its own mod. So congrats all you meta seekers. DE’s bandaid is what makes your baffling thirst for trying to hit level cap possible.

Shield gating is a cool mechanic, but I'd really like to have some other form of defenses Like life steal. I hope they come out with alot more life steal mods Mainly because shield gating is super vulnerable to toxic Eximus. What I've been using is the protective sling, but if I'm not "on it" I'll get one shot by a Toxic Eximus too If they made Armor actually viable and scale that'd be nice lol, but it's been 10 years and it's still poopy buttcheeks Shield gating also aint great for the bosses that dont really have any trash mobs with them to replenish FOR shield gate Mainly why I use Protective Sling. It's better for all situations and still has it's drawbacks of course, but I'm not screwed if there arent any energy orbs HOWEVER. With life steal that's actually good and based off how much damage you cause you dont have to worry about shields, ability energy, constantly casting Void Sling and losing damage/Utility mods for shields or energy The big and major issue would then be that you would need somekind of Over Health Mechanic as to not get one shot because they'll probably never fix armor 🤷♂️ #MakeLifeStealMoreAccessibleToAllFrames lol I just think it'd be more fun as you wouldn't have to constantly spamming an ability or thinking about how long you can do what you need to do and when. You could just, enjoy playing the game more. You could just enjoy the imersion of combat and whatever strategy yanno?
Nice informative video, how are u feeling since the lets talk video?
and there is shiel gate (tanking) the one that everyone thinks when they say shield gate : spamming abilities to become inmortal
I appreciate the effort put in the video, though I'm kind of disappointed in the statement "Best defense". Mathematically, it doesn't make sense to shieldgate if you consider the amount of time spent in-game vs which power levels and how much tanking is needed to play comfortably against those power levels. Basically... shieldgating is not needed unless you're the 0.01% so bored with Warframe you ONLY play level cap for no benefit whatsoever. It is otherwise both a chore and a limitation to builds compared to any regular form of tanking. You cannot build for efficiency, always requires energy to function and still gets instantly yeeted by toxin damage (not even procs). Can't call it the best defense when it can't even function against an entire faction (infested, aka the energy drain and toxin damage faction). The disappointment part is because I enjoy your normal chill opinion... not this anti-chill stuff, to be honest.
I lowkey need a good hydroid prime build with shield gate (still new to him)
Yeah shield gate is good for high lvl content But to be honest to annoying for me Whit adaptation and vitality you are pretty much save in any content til lvl 300 steal path And that 99 % what I do And pretty much 99.9% for a average player

I actually wanted to do that, but decided against it at the end. Will do next time.
So we are back to the origins of Warframe when frames were good or not depending if they had an immunity or not.
So what I've learnt from this video is that the shield gating changes did absolutely nothing other than require shield gating builds to sacrifice a mod slot for catalysing shields instead of taking a dragon key, and having a max shields below 100 (what you need to get the max duration from catalysing shields) is punished. This is because of 2 caveats: - "your current, not max shield value determines your gating duration" means high shield builds are horribly unreliable as well as expensive - "shield gating only protects your health, and not any shields you restore" means naturally regenerating shields are unusable under sustained fire, and may even overwrite a longer gating duration Honestly I would say the old system is better, and the new system fails at the purpose of encouraging people to increase their shields instead of decreasing. The main reason why people used minimum shields in the past was because of the reliability of getting back to max shields to get a usable gating duration. The new system punishes you for not having high current shields, instead of just maximum current shields, so anyone who wants to use shield gating will just stick on catalysing shields to revert to the old system. My suggestion to fix this would be to make a check to see if you reached maximum shields after your last shield break, and if so, set your gating duration relative to your max shields. This still encourages restoring your shields to full, but also gives high shields builds a desperately needed consistency boost by mitigating the first caveat without removing it entirely. As a lower priority I would also suggest shield invincibility, which both allows natural regen to get you more than 40 shields before you get hit again, and helps high shield builds have enough time to do multiple casts to reach max energy instead of trying to get there on one go (see: the entire reason people ran minimum shields on old builds).

Actually for warframe that can replenish/recharge shield faster it's much better. Hildryn, Harrow, Styanax, Protea, etc can use the benefit of bigger shield without relliance on Rolling Guard when the invulnerability phase ended.
Wow man I wish u where my Maths teacher 😅
Do you have plans to make more Path of Exile content?
It bugs me that shield gating got changed in a way that feels like it barely changed anything. Like, sure, if I'm at maxed overshields on a Volt with a maxed redirection, and it breaks in 1 hit of damage, I get bonus duration, but there's no consideration for scaling shield gate duration based on how much I've modded my warframe to tank via their shields. It only cares about how much you had when it breaks, which just feels silly, as I feel the whole workaround to making shields tanky is by having to fit in the adaptation mod on frames who can replenish their shields in one way or another. I suppose there'd be some wacky outliers if this were the case, like say Harrow or Hildryn having bonkers amounts of shield gate time, but c'mon they're made to use those shields as resources on top of being a source of durability, it feels naturally synergistic in terms of design. The real best defense is just circumventing aggro as a whole, invis gang where you at?
1:54 i think you are wrong on this one... dont you get the shield gate based on the highest amount of shields you had since the last break and not based on the amount you had on the breaking hit?

He mentioned it when he spoke about the useful mods. Basically: 1) equip catalyzing shield to reduce your max shield 2) equip a combination of brief respite + augur mods so that the energy cost of an easily spammable ability allows you to refill your shield in 1-2 cast 3) For ease of use, pick rolling guard That way, when your shield breaks, wait 1 second then roll to trigger the invulnerability from rolling guard. Then fill your shields using your abilities. This combination ensures you have 5 second invulnerability, with a 7 seconds cooldown from rolling guard. Of course frames like mag, volt, protea, or hildryn can achieve full uptime without catalyzing shields thanks to their huge overshield pool and their ability to quickly regenerate shield
Nezha is the best for halo gating and khora is the best for augur mod gating because of how much you're using the 1
It is good because DE is lazy about tweaking the game correctly so we dont get one shoot at lv 1k enemies.
if you use catalyzing shield, do you still need brief respite + augur mods or just one of them is fine?

i hate it so much. instead of making some ways to utilize different defense mechanics, DE just added one for any warframe, which has to be used by almost all warframes, if you want to take them into endgame missions. that's the main reason i play warframes with built-in defensive abilities such as zephyr and nyx. this game is filled with useless stuff like bunch of useless damage and status types, outdated weak warframes and weapons, but DE prioritize making new content like duvuri instead of fixing all that garbage. recent hydroid rework gave me some hope that some day we will see more outdated stuff reworks, more old cool weapons being useful and the term "mastery fodder" will not exist
I feel like you forgot to mention something imporant…. What could it….. AHH RIGHT….. infested told me to say hello to all shieldgaters So dont forget your arcane resistance when going on infested mission
Always respected shield gate playstyles, but I always found the gameplay go just be too spammy. Most health tanks, such as Grendel, do just fine even into steel path; even though there is a stopping point where he would be having issues, I find that's not until level 1000+, which I never do outside of circuit.
now i know why :)

Frames that can generate Overshields with abilties don't use this mod, as they can just rely on their lengthy 2.5 second shieldgates. Hildryn in particular has a unique 3.5 seconds long shieldgate that even allows her to use Fast Deflection to make her shields start charging again while she's still in the shieldgate window, thus allowing her to cast Pillage before she becomes vulnerable. She's practically immortal if you pay attention to your shields breaking and cast Pillage when available ^_^

@@NinjaSyao Yeah.... Hildryn, Arcane Aegis, Rolling guard and casting speed can do pretty OK. I generally hate playing Hildyn past the point where her shields start to get oneshot, but I can see how it can work past that also.
the real best defense in the game is being limbo and hitting shift
Yeah, I still don't get it. Seems like it means loss of mod slots to supplement it and a bit of crazy running about, which, for me, is very, very annoying.

health and shield building require FAR more mods, restricting your offensive build capabilities. shield gating just needs brief respite+catalyzing shields and you're gtg. fine tune with blind rage+augurs. health also only works on frames that come with base armor to supplement it, which are very few. modding for shields and especially recharge+aegis is a really strong thing now even for steel path, but it heavily restricts your remaining build, since you need 1-2 recharge mods+redirection AND one of your arcane slots for aegis.

@@tanaka_8112 It is not a must if you are playing in Steel Path. It only becomes a "must" much later. Perhaps at around level 1000 depending on warframe. So basically if one intends to be very high in the various endless missions, then these kinds of mechanics become obligatory as enemy damage can scale to millions per hit.

@InnocentiusLacrimosa Yeah, because I do just fine, though I do occasionally die. If I didn't, I'd feel it not a challenge. As it is, I don't do endurance runs, so no great need for shield gating.

Yes, this is correct !
Wat is shield gating Am a trinity main😭
The best. PUT WHY?
Still, shield gating makes warframe ability spammy, so no
Nice explanation. Personally I only shield gate on the squishy frames. The tanks with big health or regen I run as is cuz it's more fun. I never get to the point where a tickle of damage is instant damage so why bother.
