Par for the course my friend. For a solder discernment and intelligence are an impediment and even a liability to their overall effectiveness. All that's required is singular focus on the job at hand and a willingness to follow orders. A capacity to question is merely a unnecessary hindrance. That's why they are known as cannon fodder. Sometimes conviction is a greater enemy of truth than lies!

Difficult to justify, he could make the argument but I fear he wouldn't have a leg to stand on!

Was that ex-soldier so unaware of the terrible sanctions we imposed on the people of Iraq for years ,occasioning the terrible suffering and deaths of half a million children? The poverty and suffering he observed, was laid at our door,not Saddam Hussain's.I am afraid that his ignorance of the situation is quite, 'par for the course'.
