@@jhbd9 That will improve. Try blueprinting what you do. If you do well remember what you did. Come up with routes you take on each map and play them. This helps me the most, I'm better than some of my friends because I already have a game plan when I see the map. My friends just drive around aimlessly looking for kills while I am already in my spot shooting tanks or capping points.

I had one dogfight where my heart was actually racing, it was the best fight I’ve ever had in wt, me and him were the only two players left somehow and I was barely able to get guns in and put rounds into his wing after 12 minutes of constant twists and turns. I wish all dogfights were like that, but war thunder seems to not understand how much their game would grow if they added a 1v1 game mode.

Jeez not cutting burner is the main reason I get to win dogfights in the tomcat vs the 29 and F16 since they end up over shooting massively

Just some of these players don’t know how to best fly their planes and what their own planes advantages are and the opponents planes advantages and disadvantages are. I don’t know why that MiG-29 didn’t go into the scissor with him instead pulls low then goes up

​@@bwhittv1446 The MiG-29 is just kinda screwed no matter what type of 1C he goes into against a F-16, the Falcon will eventually just end up sitting on your six, fancy reversals or not. The Fulcrum is massively underperforming.

@@areyou0k98 You're obviously paraphrasing but no, when facing East German MiG-29 NATO forces, NATO test pilots, the USN and USAF were thoroughly impressed with it's performance and surprisingly advanced avionics especially for a Soviet aircraft. I don't know where you got that from. The Fulcrum has always been a feared and respected airframe

@@jaek__ the only thing the mig29 excels at is low speed turning. No modern jet fight gets into that scenario, the supermanueverability of the Russian planes is a niche aspect that holds no merit in a fox 3 missile fight. USA purchased mig-29s for testing and were unimpressed with them.

People severely underestimate the F-16’s flight performance in this game, yes at high speeds maybe 1000kmh or higher it has basically no nose authority but below those speeds it’s pretty much completely unrivaled in a dogfight

Love it man! A tip for the F-16: in dogfights the second ACM mode for the radar is generally better as it allows you to easily get an AIM-9 lock, which in the right situation means the missile will have to do little to no turning to deliver

How does the radar mode make it easier for the AIM9? You still have to pull lead, the radar mode just makes it easier to get a lock while turning behind someone.

@@kamraam1464 Depends. If you're in a one-circle the lead is actually further back inside the turn circle, because the target is technically moving the opposite way relative to where you're turning. Hte lead thing will also get less and less intense as more modern IR missiles are added. An early radar lock can help you better align the EGGS too (Electronic Gyro Gun Sight aka the Gun CCRP). Besides, even if the missile will not be able to turn enough to hit the target, shooting it might just scare or distract your opponent into a mistake that could be fatal.

You must not play top tier, the migs ability to slow its self down to get behind you is great and works well

He doesn't have to cut the burners if he's at optimal speed. In this case, he just entered the dogfight too hot

Yea I know a lotta ppl play like this so I just spiral up and drop down. Reacting to energy and knowing when and when not to do things is very important

His main mistake wasn't not turning AB his biggest mistake was thinking he could win that dogfight

It’s not just not cutting burner but a lack of speed and energy management. It seems no one played and rank 3-4 props in jet lobbies these days.

In war thunder, it's a mistake to not cut ab. I'm not gonna say I'm better than anyone or anything like that, but like when I see planes in low energy states I just think of them as sitting ducks. You can't climb, you can't manouver, you can't pull well, and the only reason he went out in front of you and you managed to kill him is because the other pilot overshot by a highway and he didn't just go into a vertical while flaring, aka bad pilotage. It might just be the DCS experience speaking here though.

Idk how you get in dogfights, I just get blowup by missiles 90% of the time

Watching these shorts helped me git gud at jets without owning a real foghter till yesterday.... now I tear shxt up with the f-5c, A-10 and f-4 (all premium, cuz too lazy and the grind is at least enjoyable now.) Never thought a quick tutorial on radar usage and key bindings would make me such an ace.... literally took out 3-5 planes every flight in the beginning.... and I ain't dropping (x"cept GBU's.....)

People very often forget that using afterburners won't help you to turn faster. With after burners he should have went up and tried to get altitude advantage, but turning with afterburnes is just useless. And afterburners won't work fornthat long on real MIG 29 😅😂

He's doing the right thing, in a dog fight you should never surrender air speed, leaves you vulnerable to other enemies in the area and destroys your max climb rate and ability to dive away.

Get altitude and boom & zoom. Avoid turning or losing energy as much as possible.

Always satisfying when you enter a merge and come out on top even if the fight is short.

Try to get used to manual wing sweeping. Cut after burner when you are turning tight and use that enormous thrust it has to your advantage( go vertical when possible ).

Does the f16 not have a ballistics computer for the cannon? I absolutely love dogfighting in the Mig-29 because it’s ballistics computer shows you exactly where to lead your shot if you have a proper radar lock.

Well to be fair the MiG-29 is better at high energy dogfights while the F-16 excels in low energy.

Iam not quite sure and please correct me if im wrong in a Viper you should be fighting in 2 circle fights meaning you should have continued your turn and not reverse it in the merge so you will be able to out rate the mig however im not sure how accurate the flight model is for the F16A as it was early models named fighting falcons not the C which is the viper.

It's the Fighting Falcon all the way up to the BLK70, even the C BLK family are called Falcons. Just not by the crew or pilots. In War Thunder the Falcon isn't as good a rate fighter as the Tomcat or Fulcrum, really, at slow speeds, the Falcon eats everything alive with no room for competition. To my mind, and from the sources I've read the Falcon is overpeforming in the direct pitch/yaw axis, and it's wing-loading at slow speeds is weird, and generates lift out of nowhere, hence why despite the performance of the MiG-29 and F-16 being close on paper the F-16 destroys it, when in real life the MiG-29 would crush any variant of the Falcon at low speed. If he had extended there he would've given the MiG-29 his 6, reversing was the best possible thing he could've done since the F-16 wins the single circle fight anyway even without the advantage of a good reversal.
