Bird hunting shotguns were popular in europe before the US existed, same concept was also used in ancient ship cannons

I really want more maps, campaigns, and forts! Oh and also naval battles! This game has so much potential!

AWESOME!!!! I love the fact that artillery in now in the game, I hope that they soon add horses for flying artillery taken after Ringold, and horse cavalry and saber drill mounted.

Rival Well, it’ll still be slow to move the piece when unlimbered, but when limbered, it’ll probably fly across the battlefield, and change position with the tide of battle.

For authenticity call recruits 'strawfoots' or 'hayfoots'. Since many of these men came from isolated rural or even frontier areas, quite a few didn't understand right from left. Some genius NCO or officer knowing these raw recruits were mainly farm boys and could tell the difference between a stalk of hay and a stalk of straw began having them tuck the hay or straw under the laces of their boots which corresponded to 'right' and 'left'. Hence, recruits and rookie units received the moniker of 'strawfoot' or 'hayfoot', which wasn't just a term but literal in this sense.

This is really nice！I used to be trained on operate a 19 century British Naval Field Gun in the Canadian Army Cadet. Though it is not a muzzle loader but there are still a lot of similar process （We didn't ram the gun，and we also stay in position since the naval field gun is not going to moving back when firing）. Also，the shell might need to be passed from number 5 to number 1 in order to loaded（put into the barrel）. However， I am not sure this can be done in game but nice work anyway：）.Can't wait to use arty in game！

Can you please fix the sighting system? When you move the gun laterally you can not see the sights anymore for some reason. Of course the gun is supposed to be aimed down a bit when lifted up, but you should still be able to see the sights clearly, not only the breach.

My only gripe with the gameplay is that when you are doing a loading animation your head bobs in all directions. Get very dizzy. Can you make an option so that your head just looks where your mouse is aiming regardless of what your character do?

I think there is one key element missing. One should put his/her thumb on the hole of the top of the cannon to stop air while the barrel is cleaned and loaded. (so leftover fire do not make the cannon explode). But guess that's a gameplay issue. Also when aiming; there should be some handsignal to the guy who helps move the direction of the cannon.(but that might also be a gameplay choice). There should also be a way to disable the cannon so it won't be used against one's group. Maybe a "realism" game mode, as I understand gameplay will suffer if you make it too real. But I hope there will be a way to move the pieces (by horses - they need to be able to spawn as those will be killed)

This is the closest someone like me can come to a reenactment. Gotta say, I am very impressed at the mechanics and detail. Question: What happens when you don't swab the barrel? Is there a chance of misfire? Also I am gripped by the sudden urge to see how many soldiers the recoil can take out.

Right now, you have so swab the barrel, its part of the entire process. If you don't swab it, you are not able to place a new shell :) The entire system will get extended during the development, like having the ability to use the worm tool and such.

The swab is to extinguish any embers left from the powder bag. So not using it could cause premature discharge, not misfire.

Generalfeldmarschall Cryatoc Historically speaking，only cannons that didn't flying back are small guns like British Naval Field Gun. And you can not just put something behind it to make it stop.

You mixed up positions one and two. Position four is also the one that goes to adjust the trail spike.

Nice! Except you got your I. position and II. position the wrong way around ;) And the number II. position kind does nothing in this game. Better to have a I. IIII. and a V. plus a gunner imo.

I believe position 2 is supposed to take the round and put it into the barrel as opposed to position 2 being the one who rams it.

In the 13thVA we are respectful to everyone. This includes your comrades in the 13thVA, members of other regiments, public players, admins, officers, non-commissioned officers, and people on the forums. We also like to conduct ourselves in a professional and mature manner. This means that cursing, glitching, trolling, flaming, and name-calling or other forms of fighting are not allowed. This is especially important when we are in events or on a public server. Lastly, everyone should follow Orders. It is paramount for the survival of the regiment that all orders given by our Officers are followed to the orders and without question or argument. There is a time and place to discuss tactics and whether or not certain orders should be given or not. Directly after the order is given is not one of those times. Role-playing will be a big part of the 13thVA. Unlike Napoleonic Wars, we intend on using all historical commands, maneuvers, and discipline. This isn't really much help other than to illustrate that the roles have been abbreviated. The #1 actually do both sponge and ramming. The #2 rarely did much and was responsible for clearing the muzzle. Position #3 was in #4's spot. The Gunner aims the gun. #3 pricks the charge. #5 (the powder monkey) was right. Anyway, it makes sense to split #1 into two positions and combine the gunner, #3 and #4 into one role.
