War has been declared on Cedar Trees.

In this video, we are removing some invasive cedar trees that grew along a previous cross fence. Have you ever noticed how cedars grow along barbed wire fences? They multiply like rabbits. Birds eat the blue seeds, then pass them while sitting on a fence and shortly thereafter, a young cedar tree comes along.
We are removing 22 trees around our pond to open the property up. We're trying to get this pasture ready for possible hay operation.

That fertilization with the birds dumping the seeds makes things happen fast. It looks so much better already even with stumps. I say save 2 acres for the retirement home of your dreams:) Merry Christmas!!

Hay prices are only going up😁. I’d love to find a good place in west/central Texas to buy hay and haul it back to sell to the race track. Merry Christmas.

Thanks for watching. Yes, buying hay is my single largest expense on the ranch. I’m thinking about flipping the switch and raising it.

Those trees you call Cedar, are those trees also used in landscapes around homes? It does look nicer around the pond now. You have a great Christmas my friend and God Bless.

Yes, especially around new house additions. They’re “cheap” grow fast, and provide privacy around patios, etc. people don’t realize how big they get though.

Here in the Northwest I really like our cedars! But- I'm not raising cows and they definitely get huge! I have a redwood in my front yard that's probably 100+ years old, it's just amazing!!!😃🌲🌲🌲

I like the way you think. I’m actually thinking about just renting o e for a few days and knocking some stuff out. Compared to my day job, this is low stress and therapeutic.

Birds love Cedar trees and use them for shelter and roosting. You are cutting down their habitat. Especially Cardinals.

I appreciate your feedback. However, you don’t realize we have more wooded land than open pastures. Pastures are crucial for the cattle.

Cedars aren't native in our part of Texas but have spread and take up vast amounts of water. Much better to eliminate and plant native or improved grasses. Plenty of shade and nesting in the hardwoods.

What part of Texas? I live near Emory and Cedars are everywhere. They make great wind breaks. Cardinals by the hundreds live in them. You do what you got to do it's your property John and know what's best not me. Looks like a nice place you have. You are blessed.@@johnconnaway8298

They’re so invasive. Considering the droughts, they are the biggest moisture thief out there. Merry Christmas my friend.
