These Swedish guys seem incredibly thoughtful and bright for soldiers (who volunteer). No gung ho bullshit or blind obedience to duty/orders/the flag etc, which is what I experienced so much with British soldiers I worked with in the early eighties . Just hope the normal Afghans can finally get rid of the Taliban when they are left to do it themselves, although I don't think that will happen.

Well, I know I can't speak for all of Sweden but people who walk around with big mouths, brag and mock are not very liked here. Try to impress others and get yourself liked, then no one will like you. On the other hand, do your work and be respectful and good opinions will come naturally.

Inom det Svenska Försvaret så ställs det mycket krav. Du får inte vara handikappad eller ha knepig syn. Men om du klarar att läsa bokstäver från en tavla hos optikern så är det nog inga problem.

Im from Norway and we have the people behind us. Norwegians support the troops and the war they are fighting. They know that it's a political choice and not the soldiers. Soldiers go where their gouvernment sends them and thankfully the Norwegian population, mostly, understands this. I give thanks to the Sweeds and Danes for their contribution and effort in this war. I wish the people of the respected countries would support their troops. Love from Norway.

How does the whole process work for a Swede to be able to get deployed and engage in combat? And are female soldiers allowed to engage in combat too?

Tl;dr: Serve in the army and volunteer for international missions. Sex/gender is irrelevant as long as you can meet the criteria. Long story: However males are conscripted and females aren't (a system which has been in considerable flux the last few decades) but can apply to the normal army if they want. The normal army never leaves Sweden because Sweden doesn't engage in offensive warfare. After doing your normal army service you can apply to "the outland battalion" which is deployed outside of Sweden on peacekeeping missions and such. Sweden is militarily neutral and thus only puts troops on foreign soil as part of an internationally mandated mission. As Sweden is militarily neutral it did not partake in the invasion of Afghanistan but supplied peacekeepers after the event.

We haven´t been at war for a long time, the soldiers in afghanistan are at a big volume, volunteer soldiers, they chose to go to afghanistan to help. And the reason we are strong is because of the other wars around the world, because we develop high-tech weaponry. For instance the submarine we made that could stay submerged for 1 month and was undetectable by radar.

There is hardly nay footage of SOG. What little there is out there is video that has been put out by the Swedish Armed Forces and doesn't really show anything except them walking, sitting or getting out of a helicopter.

De är lätta slå ut bara stoppa ner koppar/stålplatta i ändan av tjockt stålrör och packa på med sprängämnen bakom och centrera tändhatt långt bak. Avstånd mellan tändhatt och centrum på disken kontra periferin är har jag för mig 1.6-2.o beroende av "konens" vinkel. 1.5 kg av PETN eller Hexotol per 600 gram koppar på 150 mm skiva om 4-5 mm tjocklek. De som är bra med detta är att ju mer lik som kommer hem ju snabbare får banksterna lägga ner destabiliseringen av afghanistan.

I Helmand provinsen langs floden er der også meget grønt, men det er et smalt bælte, der kun er 8 kilometer bredt. Udenfor det bælte er der ørken. Men da det er fladt, kan de have mange marker i det område(Mest Opium), da deres andre grønne områder er i fjeldene i Kunar og Nuristan provinserne. Prøv at søg på Korangal Valley.

I'm surprised you feel that way DaSnipy. I would have thought that terrorism should be met at its door. In fact, it is because we have turned the other cheek that terrorism has flourished. As regards Sweden, I'm glad they have made a stand. A friend is not someone that helps when it is politically expedient... a friend is there during the good and bad times. Respect to Sweden and our Swedish brothers in arms.

Swedens almost 200 year long peace is more credited to our luck rather then our sucess as a non-aligned country. That said, Sweden has been a center for peace movements for nearly a century. But I think its wrong for us to tell other nations to send peace keeping forces and not contribute ourselves. Today our army is fully built for this purpose and the idea is to help other nations keep the peace so the war doesnt spread closer to home. And I think thats noble.
