The amrican equivalent to these guys would be something like the US Army Rangers, so it's not really basic infantry, it's more of an elite infantry unit focusing on guerrilla warfare fighting in small groups behing enemy lines to disrupt the enemy as much as possible.

Hey mate, never thought I'd see this. I used to work at AJB (Arméns Jägarbataljon), the battalion displayed in this video, and even did a tour abroad with them. I figured I could share some info on the topic. "Jägare" (meaning Ranger/s in english) are operating behind enemy lines, pursuing sabotage, recon, and leading airstrikes and artillery. It is, like the narrator says, the Army's most prominent unit for combat behind enemy lines. Although AJB is considered light infantry, its roots are cavalry, as back in the days they relied on horses. Hence, the soldiers there are also called "Dragoons". Also, if you take a closer look on the batch/tab they wear on their arm (not sure if visible in this video), you can see it's similar to the "Ranger tab". AJB have had exchanges with the 75th Army Rangers since the 70's, and when the first officer from AJB in Sweden went and did the Ranger Course, he saw many similarities and decided to make a similar tab to the "Jägare", however with the inscription "JÄGARE". Since then many officers have gone through the Ranger Course. To become a "Jägare" is one of the toughest courses in the Swedish Army. Despite all the action in the video, most of the time it's just miserable, dark and cold., since that is AJBs best weapon - shit conditions. The weather close to the Arctic Circle is what make these guys tough, not their biceps (although doing disco-sets in the gym is important). Best

The white camo is actually like a thin coat and pants that you put on ontop of your regular M90 (green) uniform, so if you were to walk into a forest away from the snowy mountaintops, you could literally change your camo from white to green in just a minute to suit the enviorment.

On the bent caps: When we don't have the caps on (indoors or when using helmets) we fold them into a triangle and store them in our left leg-pocket. That makes it's bent like that.

Jaegers (hunters in english) are self sustained units, ment for long range recon, Guerilla warefare and sabotage. Attacking enemy supply caches and gathering points behind enemy lines. And to tie up resources to root them out, Decreasing the enemies frontline capabileties. They also have forward observer capability to guide in artillery or CAS. Nordic contries all have them, some in more specialized fields then others but all with the same base concept

A Swedish soldier can never wear a hat indoors. When wearing a cap, it.s usually tucked into the leg pocket when entering a building, which in turn causes the brim to be bent. From there it’s become more or less a military fashion to wear your cap with a bent brim. It actually protects a bit better from the elements as well.

the camo on the helmet may not be as relevant or requires a lot of work for troops that change through different environments a lot so that they have to switch it all the time. but here in sweden pretty much the entire country is pine forest so you can never go wrong with a pinetree on your head :D

I remember talking with my dad about the Jaegers, and he mentioned how the way they fight is way different from the regular army. When he did his compulsory military service in the late 70's the 'rule of thumb' were that the regulars would spend 60 days in the field on exercise and 300 at the regiment, while the jaegers would spend 300 days out in the field and 60 days at the regiment.

About the ghillie suite it is the The Special Operations Tactical Suit (SOTACS) represents the most advanced personal camouflage equipment available. The suit has multi spectral characteristics and provides protection from visual observation, night vision devices and thermal sensors. It can be worn over ordinary Battle Dress Uniform, allowing the level of camouflage to be adapted to each situation.

Regarding the ghillie suits, they are IR suits because the main enemy would be a high tech qualified enemy with air superiority.

There are many different types of Jägarsoldiers in Sweden. What we saw in this video was the jägarsoldiers based in northern Sweden, but their is coastjägarsoldiers and airbasejägare as well.

The hat V shape is because you fold it to fit into your leg-pocket that way. It's pretty soft.
