Well those people are wrong. If your maintenance calories are 2000 and you’re eating all clean foods, but it’s 2200 calories, guess what? You’re gonna gain weight. If you’re eating 1800 calories and the foods not very clean at all. Guess what? You’ll lose weight. You might feel terrible. Might not have very much energy, but this is how the body works.

Well it depends on what you mean by ‘less’. Fundamentally, if you want to lose body fat, you’ll have to be in a caloric deficit. Eating ‘better’ or eating ‘healthy’ are sort of misrepresentative words.

The thing about a journey like this as opposed to "losing weight" is that it's sustainable long term. Lifting and training become your new lifestyle, almost an addiction lol, so you won't ever return to the sad state you were in before. 1 more piece of advice - don't get injured. Losing weeks to rehab just sucks. Perfect form more important than adding weight on your lifts. Good luck everyone.

My problem is my horrible diet. I love junk food way too much. Three years ago I went from 232 to 183 lbs in 18 months. Lifting weights for hypertrophy (4 days per week/push, pull, supplemented with legs once per week), then running 3 days per week at 30, 45, 60+ minutes (added 15 minutes per long run each week with rest at the 4th week), then dog walking for 45-90 minutes per day). I tracked my calories in and out and on any day that I took in more calories that went out until was at a negative calorie intake for the day. I was so tired that I intentionally ate less so I could do less activity. I need to find that desire to eat less again. Then I moved and started eating like crap again and then quit running. I gained 25 lbs (207 lbs) of fat and muscle (mostly fat due to my bad diet but lifting 3 days per week). My diet is still bad (better than it was). I run 1 mile (10 minute) per lifting session, (4 days per week), lift push pull legs 4 days per week (mostly compound in hypertrophic range) put I sprinkle in Lat raises with each session, triceps twice per week, and curls once per week). Each lifting session is 1 hour to 1.25 hours. I run two to three times per week. Squats, leg presses, deadlifts, and calf raises split per each pull day. Legs are strength based ranges of 3 sets of 5 reps, except calves, which I’d do 20 reps for 3 setI just started running twice per week and walk dogs everyday. I don’t want big legs because I want to train for a marathon next year. I am currently 199.3 lbs and 29 % body fat. Johnny motivates me but so does food.

When I started my recomp a cpl years ago I was 230lbs most I ever weighed within a few months I was down to 215 lookin and feeling great ! Sadly lost my home and was forced to move into an Airbnb for about 2 months n eventually was able to purchase my first home. Those 2 months were awfully hard mentally so my diet and exercise routine took a massive hit ! After settling to the new home my routine got back to a decent schedule BUT my new weight when we met at fit for less that day is now 250lbs. And now my weight swings from 240-255 depending on the week. 😭😭😭 I ll b reassessing my diet I ve packed on the most muscle I’ve ever been able to build so I m kinda confused as to how much of my gained weight is muscle Vs fat. All due to that 1 set back

I would say if you need time to build some discipline first, walking 30-60 min every day and going to the gym 2 times a week (or just trying out some bodyweight exercises at home) can be an amazing first step to get yourself into good habits while not burning out!

Lol. That's me. I've lost a good amount of weight, and when time came for me to gain muscle, I was so afraid to eat because I didn't want to gain all that fat back.

I’ve been on a calorie deficit diet for about a year now. I started with a high deficit because I must’ve been around 24-26% body fat according to my not at all reliable calculations. Those calcs tell me that I now sit at 16-17%. I’m gonna be honest I thought I was gonna loose the fat faster especially because of the huge deficit I ran in the beginning. But the diet was sustainable and the best part: I’ve built muscle like never before in my life while losing fat. I would like to enter a gaintenance phase after summer. Let’s see if that works out for me. But I’m really anxious that I put on too much fat in that process.

My problem is. Before I started training I knew what my good weight was, so whenever I put fat on I knew how much I needed to lose to look good again. Once I started training my weight went up so standing on the scale would be frustrating because I no longer know what my good weight is with the added muscle weight. I am now trying to simply go by my clothes and mirror but after decades of standing on a scale it's not easy.

I really think diet is the *most* important part of all of this, it's not about how much you eat or whether it's "organic" vs. "processed" so much as -- is it nutrient-rich, is it a type of nutrient that balances with other essential elements of good eating (carbs, fat, protein). Whole grain bread, tuna, chicken breast, ground or sliced turkey, low-fat yogurt, brown rice, eggs, these are all good food options that can help you lose weight, build muscle, or both. I think. It's worked for me, anyway 😅

That's the problem. Processed foods are calorie dense no nutrients. It's harder mentally but if u get results eaying crap, then ur body will hit the nxt lvl if u get there without all the extra garbage to filter.

@@ChiefVince117what does "processed" mean, though? When you turn whole grains into a loaf of bread, that means you 'processed' it. Turning goat milk into yogurt means you 'processed' it. Picking a banana from the limb means you 'processed' it. So on & so on. Yes, fewer ingredients *can* be good 👍🏻 but think about how you have to process dairy to make whey protein. Whey protein is super good for you & it's entirely processed, you can't just go pick whey protein off a tree or butcher it off an animal 🤷🏻 I dunno. Maybe processing is the wrong factor to consider.

@@Matthew.E.Kelly. very true my language to describe it could be much less vague. Generally ppl see chicken rice greens as non processed and little Debbie cakes and slim Jim's as processed so I'm working off that assumption. If a food item gives u protein, but double ur daily intake of fat n sodium it'll be pointless to track ur weight if that's ur main food source. If something is super quick, super easy, and super convenient... it's definitely got some major draw backs. Exercise is great n all but that'll fade eventually if u keep putting bad gas in the car

@@Matthew.E.Kelly.eat vegetables cut out carbs or limit them as much as possible and eat meat - this is working for me and I think it avoids the processed category - I just do frozen veggies like broccoli and cauliflower and sour cream and hot sauce in a bowl I microwave because I’m lazy 😅 and for meat I’m also lazy I just do Oscar Meyer deli meat chicken and turkey slices; lot of sodium but the vegetables have like almost no sodium so it’s balanced

@@Matthew.E.Kelly. I would say processed versus not processed would be something like a can of tuna where they add soy-based products versus fresh tuna..
