As advance as weather technology has gotten it's still not perfect. Irma was projected to be a serious major hurricane, but suddenly started to weaken right before it made landfall in florida and hit as a cat 3 instead of a cat 4 or 5 like projected. Even though a cat 3 is major it could have been a devastating hurricane which thankfully it wasn't. Forecasting weather is a tough job, there are many factors that can suddenly change a forecast at the last minute especially with hurricanes. With that said, It's better to get something wrong and have people over prepare for it, than to get something wrong and have people under prepare for it.

I was actually in Disney when Irma hit I was staying at the Boardwalk Villas. When the storm was over I remember looking across at Yacht and Beach club resort, and seeing a ton of trees have fallen over as well as damaging a ton of the property. BTW I remember the wait times for the major attractions were 5 minutes and sometimes walk ons which is crazy!

It was scary going back to school after the storm. Everyone talking about how they didn't have power, or how happy they were to see friends. My psychology teacher allowed us to use our phones, play, vent, and be kids for the first half hour of class before lunch, giving us space to breathe.

I was there yesterday at Hollywood Studios, and the wait for smugglers run (the new galaxy’s edge attraction) never went above 80 minutes, and i was able to get on in 60. Nothing like this video though lol, but the parking lot for hollywood studios was near empty on one side

it help that they have their own power plant makes it easier to keep the lights on when things like this happen

I found out I was pregnant a few days before this hurricane. We thought we were going to blow away. I was so scared I am extremely grateful my beautiful baby boy is ok. Stress was extremely high and I am glad I didn’t miscarry. I almost evacuated with some family friends but I decided to stay with my newly wed husband. I am glad I did. My friends got stuck running from hotel to hotel. It was bad. Hurricane weakened and It was not as bad as it looked at first. But it was a seriously scary time. No power for weeks later but we ride it out! My baby is perfectly healthy!

I remember watching a strong thunderstorm cell develop on the highest floor of that exact building, it was awesome

2 years later: Wow that scene of long lines and bare shelves has become the NORM

That's why i love Disney. Safety is more important than their cash.

Bazooks Gaming ikr they actually do care so much about people's safety.

I visited the park the first day they reopened and you really could not tell that a hurricane had hit inside the Disney properties with the exception of a small handful of downed trees. Hats off to Disney to be able to do what they do. They are definitely a well oiled machine. My heart goes out to the residents of Florida and all the areas and islands that were affected during this storm and all the others. I will be donating!

CelticShadow75 should really watch docs of the underbelly of disney. It has water proof tunnels with buildings structured with hurricanes in mind. they have plans for emergency like this. One of my boyfriends cousin works there during vaca months. And was there during irma, was scary but she was safe. :D

And now Disney has been closed for months because of Covid

I honestly never felt so anxious in my life (I live in Tampa). At first, it was targeted to hit directly under me, Sarasota. As I got to the temp shelter, it had changed course slightly and hit around Naples/Ft Myers area, so Tampa mostly got about cat 2, maybe some cat 3 gusts. Power was out for about a week. Next time, I will just drive over to the opposite end of the state.

and he double back flipped off a building onto the roof of another building where he climbed into the window of a hotel and ran down the hall at full speed knocking everyone out of his way as he speeds through jumps out of an open window lands on the cold wet road tens of feet below him without a scratch then teleports to Neptune

I would absolutely love to experience something like this, but living in the U.K. we don’t experience much extreme weather just lots of rain haha

best way to do that.. Not going outside during a hurricane. I've been through two myself, Irene in 2011 and Sandy in 2012. It's not exactly fun. I found someone else's satellite dish on my front steps after the first one.

I have 4 brothers and sisters. My family went once a year to FL Disney World for every sibling, so we I went at least 5 times total. We only stayed at the contemporary hotel once, but i remember it was during a healthy/kinda scary tropical storm a couple nights. I distinctly remember looking down from our floor at least 5 stories deep at the monorails as a lil 10 yr old being marveled at human engineering, only to hear the truly deafening onslaught of rain pelting against the exterior walls of the entire hotel structure. To this day i will get a dose of nostalgia by cupping my ears in the shower under the water stream and get taken back to the feeling of being in a large hollow concrete/steel structure holding up against a fierce storm. Good times

I'm a little jealous. Not because of the hurricane, but because I'm pretty sure the Contemporary is the only hotel we haven't stayed at. :P Glad you're safe, Jake.

Thank you so much for making this video! I know it’s been a few years since this happened. But I live in Jacksonville Florida and my girls and I were hunkered in while Irma hit and I didn’t even consider what was going on at Disney. I really enjoyed watching this and it makes me even more grateful for the work they all do there❤️👍🏼

Dfthu yes! I have seen that one. That was from hurricane Matthew. It was good too. Justin and Adam the woo were both in the area during Matthew.

I was at Disney world too it was the best time I had because the lines had a maximum 30 min wait it was great

I’ve been to Disney twice for a hurricanes, 1 because lines are short, and 2 because as you said, I feel incredibly safe there, and the spectacular cast members always keep the magic alive, as well as keep you safe!

I was there during Irma and it was the best experience as far as we were concerned. We felt very safe. A lot of tourists left and they brought in locals and their pets! It was great!! And the cast members made me love them even more!!

Jake you are crazy for going out there😂great video though. Glad you stayed safe ❤ please keep up the good work!!

When I was a little girl in the 80s, I remember thinking the monorail passing through the contemporary resort was such an amazing thing. I was sure that the hotel was a magical place that only rich folks could afford. Memories…
