I actually prefer low/mid Elo games over high Elo ones. They feel more like how the game was "meant" to be played, with large armies clashing and off-the-wall strategies, rather than the game being decided because one pro was able to micro their 3 militia better than the other.

Just play Arena, that's what I do. You still have that big army vs big army clashing without need for too much micro, and you can still do it by competitive standards.

@@robertlewis6915 To each his own. I enjoy a LeL from time to time, but it can be hard for me to sit through so much frustrating decisions and mistakes. There's something very exciting about optimal plays duking it out to exploit the slightest weakness of the opponent in pro games.

@@EugeneOneguine I'm a spectator who doesn't play and doesn't care too much about learning what's optimal. Different perspective, I guess. I have enjoyed some pro games; MbL has made some awesome ones. I just prefer the ones that are a bit wacky. Keeps me engaged, where I get bored dealing with near-perfect micro vs just slightly more perfect micro, backed up by impressive macro
When I was a young lad playing AoE1 campaigns, I was having trouble on the first Greek mission as I could not survive having multiple enemies (this was my first video game so there was a lot to learn). I definitely checked out books from the library to research ancient Greeks and also definitely tried killing their scouts before they could report back to the main camp 😂

Similar but unrelated: I convinced my elementary school to let me install Stronghold Crusader as a research aid because it had a historical campaign. Then they saw a town burning with all the people running and screaming lol. Did write a paper on all the battles in the campaign tho. 10/10 5th grade experience.
I just want to echo that LEL is the most interesting thing on your channel for me. I don't really watch AOE2 stuff, I didn't grow up with it and was into other strategy games like Dune / C&C, but watching people with no idea of a meta figure out their own strategy in a strategy game is fascinating, especially when commentated by someone who DOES know the intricacies of the game.

You know when red has 39 vils in DARK AGE with 11 vils in the queue, things are gonna get spicy 😂
This is such a fun way to play Age of Empires. Big, walled cities duking it out.
35:37 arrow loops/slits point horizontally to fire outward. murder holes are more vertically oriented in entry ways and curtain walls for firing DOWN on invading troops. murder holes are often installed in the entries of castles between two portcullises so units are stopped at the inner portcullis and are forced to endure things raining down on them from above (such as human/animal waste, hot oil, arrows, etc)

I don't know if anyone saw, but blue said he was in chat pretty early in this game, which is probably why he closed off that gap in the wall so quickly and then started going for relics shortly after you mentioned them.

This game was an absolute banger live, I was living and dying with the blue scout.
I blame the AI for teaching us to fear the darkness. As soon as you poked the AI it would send EVERYTHING at you, so exploring was genuinely dangerous.
When I was a kid I didn't really speak English so any technology not explained by its picture was pretty much deemed worthless. I knew you sometimes could make hand cannoneers and bombard towers but I had absolutely no clue how or why I usually couldn't.
43:00 Town centers are the same. You can walk underneath them when they are done, but while they are under construction they are solid. So it makes sense from a coding standpoint to just use the same property for gates.
This was so wholesome because we all have been at this stage. So hilarious

@BattalionMouse

TBF, once they hit their true rating, they win/lose just as much as anyone else -- around 50%. They might have had a lot of losses on the way down from 1000 where they first were placed, but so does everyone. IDK how many losses it takes to hit 200 ELO from 1000 though, it was probably a good bit

loving the yucatan spotlights. Used to play it against AI all the time once I got Conquerors dlc and felt like it mixed some of my favorite gameplay from different standard map types like arabia and black forest, but having warmer colors and turkeys(!).
T90, I like these stream excerpts here on KZread. I know you have been transitioning into more standalone casts for your YT channel, but I love your casts from your streams (with the audience interaction and unknown endings)
One time in AoE when I couldn't beat the computer - I ferried villagers over a river and chopped a hole in the trees and looped in from behind to break the stalemate.
The story about the scout and his village was surprising. The narration of the game unfolded. This T90 guy is the type of person who have been pushing humankind forward for all these times. The ultimate frontier.
God, red has the most perfect, snug, wall-able nook of a base. God, im getting secondhand jealous

As a kid i always thought the gold/stone upgrades would make it x% last longer because the second mine upgrade picture shows you a deeper mine.
Good game and really entertaining commentary as usual T90. I was thinking around the 30 min mark though what a high elo player would do in each of the players situations. Is there a way to have a game where the low elo plays set up a couple high elo plays who then take over the game?? That would be interesting to watch.
This was great to watch and your commentary ended up working perfectly.
Those are arrow slits on the SIDE of the castle. A murder hole is at the top of the castle or wall. The crenellations would stick out a bit and there is a hole that liquids or rocks and arrows can be shot from.
Hey T90, you know why people are 200-400 ELO know the basics these days? It's because of you. It's because of your "older brother showing younger sibling how to play" style of teaching/casting. The "HA! it's funny that you did that silly mistake but also here's how to not make that mistake next time" method really works. You're part of a very small group of people who are actively improving both the game and the playerbase.
This is one of the best games you've casted. Genuinely could have gone either way.
The "Housed" noise is the main reason why I play Huns.
I sincerely laughed out loud when you started roleplaying the scout. Please do more roleplay!
This is what happens when the stoppable force meets the movable object.
Some Low Elo notes here: 1) The scout running around in the base for a while instead of going out to scout wasn't just that he was scared, but because the player was worried the red scout who got in was from a forward stable he hadn't seen. 2) The "houses at the edge of the map" strategy is based on pretending that your city in the game is just the edge of a much larger city off-map (Notice how there was a gate protecting those houses as well, so they're not unprotected.) And by having such a large city that you're just a small edge of it, how could you possibly lose?
13:35 - Yeah I agree about those houses - how would the horses get out of the stable if there's a bunch of buildings in front?
An accurate reenactment of the 100 year war
Yucatán has been my favorite lately but I had a match the other day that spawned me next to my opponent but all my recourses on the other side of him and it also gave me no wood. Was super weird. Literally all the wood on my side of the map was gone. I tried to do a quick rush to take some of the recourses but it was hopeless lol
loved watching this! fun game to see
Man, red just crumbles under pressure
And another thing. I always put archers inside castles and towers. Its very effective when you play aginst the AI. Your archers are protected and a Castle with 10-12 archers in it one shot mots units. Towers also benefits greatly when packed with archers. 😎
Lol red saying "im bored" in the end
Praise the lord, a reall-time stream cast! Don't know about the rest, but this to me is much better, game presentation wise. Your engaging personality quirks shine through these a lot more than the videos-for-youtube we've had for nearly a week.
I'd say the housing sound is like the gears of your economy grinding to a halt.
1:04:37 It actually may not have been harder to misclick the gate. Blue was trying to click the left tower of the gate, but because it was blocked by the large trees he clicked the wall instead trying to avoid it.
I love your videos. Such a chill, positive vibe and aoe is endlessly interesting!
1 hr lel game!! I am loving this 🎉🎉
Ohh very fast upload, fantastic, saw the first half of this live yesterday!! More low-low Elo please!! Meaning sub400!!!
This made me feel very good about my gameplay. Thank you
Getting housed noise sounds like a string or rope being brought to tension with some filter on it.
murder holes are inside the gates, to shoot arrows, crossbowbolts or poke with pikes, arrow slits are on walls, and towers to shoot out arrows, updatedarrow slits are crosses, which are first of all super thematic in europe and they allow bows and crossbows
Oh man, back when I was still in grade school, I played the William Wallace campaign, I think it was the 4th one, the one that require you to destroy a watch tower. Back then, I barely understand any English at all, so even the voice, "Don't forget, keep exploring the map!" was playing on repeat scared me shitless. I muster everything I can before even attempting to do anything. I think I bring around 50+ troops to attack the tower. Nevermind exploring the map lol, I was even scared by the voice. I've played many campaign on repeat, but never the William Wallace one...still gives me the creeps to this day, I guess it was because I was assaulted by the looping voice for a long time..mind you, I didn't finish that scenario in one sitting haha, took me days.
I love how instead of placing 3 wall tiles to the edge of the map, red walls all the way alongside the edge. Also the chance to hit 3 out of 3 treb shots against a unit is 0.3375%
From the thumbnail I'm hoping this is the MBL vs FreakingAndy black forest game

Paper money has always been a confusing tech for new players, so has ballistics versus siege engineers and chemistry
I think I already knew as a child that fire arrows deal less damage to humans - so I never thought it would affect anything in that regards. But I did get horse armor for my cav archers untill you pointed that mistake out in one vid...

Franks and Britons meet each other again at the 200 elo wars
low elo is by far the most entertaining to watch. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll face palm so hard you break your forehead. Much better than watching some nerds micro 3 archers 1 monk and a mango.
It's crazy how many maps we don't see, I play on xbox use to play on pc back in the day, and for instance Bohemia was great, Australia is fun as well.
GG WP! Oh my what a great game! And what a great commentary. T90 never stop doing LEL please. Your style of commentry suits so well to this types of games. About heated shots. To me it makes perfect sense. You shoot fire arrows against ships to set them on fire. Very logic. An arrow kills a human just as much with or without fire. But to ships, fire arrows are devastating. So conclusion: Heated shots are just the right neme for its purpose. Problem is that many people avoid water maps couse they are more complicated than land maps. So instead of calling heated shots a noob bait explain why its logic and encourage people to play more water maps. 😎
Making archers as Franks is one thing, but when you're playing against a civ that may have the best archers, and your civ has some of the best cavalry, it's just ridiculous on multiple levels.
I thought that when treb dies the projectiles were nullified. Did it change?
Murder holes were trapdoors in the floor you would open up when people were beneath you in castles to shoot arrows or drop stuff on them.
I was hoping they would run out of wood 😂
Now hear me out.... Trebuchet Nothing. No military units other than trebuchets 😂
Fairly confident you casted yhuma before
