Walk Into the Gates of Hell Homeless Los Angeles California Skid Row

Walk Into the Gates of Hell Homeless Los Angeles California Skid Row. Lets walk thru the heart of Los Angeles Homeless Encampments and watch a man DYI construct his homeless shelter from wood.
Certainly! *Skid Row* in *Los Angeles* is a neighborhood with a *long history* of homelessness. Here are some key points:
#streetlife #homelesslosangeles #germaninvenice #homelessnes
1. *Origin of the Name:*
- The term "skid row" originated from logging practices, where logs were slid down greased skids to nearby rivers. Over time, it became associated with areas where people with no money gathered.
2. *Historical Context:*
- By the **1930s**, Skid Row was home to as many as **10,000 homeless people**.
- It supported saloons, residential hotels, and social services, drawing people from the populations they served to congregate in the area⁵.
3. *Recent Developments:*
- LA's latest homeless housing project, the **Weingart Towers**, celebrated its grand opening in Skid Row.
- The first of two high-rise buildings features *278 units* and amenities like a cafe, gym, music and art rooms, and terraces with community gardens.
- The cost per residential unit was approximately **$595,000**, funded in part through Proposition HHH, a bond measure for affordable housing for people experiencing homelessness⁴.
4. *Future Expansion:*
- The *Skid Row Action Plan* aims to provide hundreds of new interim housing beds in and near Skid Row, addressing the homelessness crisis⁶.
Remember, this is about giving people dignity and respect, providing a place they can call home. 🏠🌟

I'm homeless and I was telling myself what would I do first if I was on the streets of LA , I believe I would get some nice clean clothes and find a place to shower and panhandle some money and save that money and get a grayhound bus to Sacramento CA and see if I could better myself there

I was a project superintendent for Habitat For Humanity Of Greater Hollywood. Brad Pitt showed up on a Saturday when all the volunteers come. We were right across the street from Watts Towers. He didn't get out of his stretch limo until the mayor showed up. Then they both posed for a photo=op with a gold painted shovel and then left. Didn't say hi or meet anyone. Now, Mike Tyson was way cool and kept coming back to interact with my gang banging Youthbuild students. He loved them and they loved him. Pitt is a cracker.

This is what happens when jobs are outsourced. People become homeless, and live in the streets. Look at the label on things you buy in stores today. It's marked made in China. That is where the money goes. It doesn't stay here.

If I walked "into" the gates of hell, I'd have a big burn on my forehead. I'd much rather walk "through" the gates of hell if confronted with either choice.

They tried to fix it up and rebuild it. Fancy new apartments. Trick people into moving in. Reality eventually resurfaces. I used to walk thru in the daytime only 7-10 years ago. It looks a little bit worse.

Gates of Hell? Nope. This is called "Reversion to the Mean". This is what DTLA (downtown Los Angeles / Skid Row) looked like in the 1980's/1990's before gentrification. DTLA is going back to its historical roots. The difference is today they have tents. In the 1980's/1990's it was cardboard boxes. For fun, watch the movie "Escape from L.A." or "Blade Runner". These movies almost look like documentaries.

Such a complex understanding to think a polyester tent set up on concrete is a dwelling. A child's playhouse becomes another's deathbed. I chose to be homeless in my late teens and early twenties on and off in the late 80s and early 90s. I did it to save money and also to handle a traumatic childhood. I took it on as an adventure and stayed far away from concrete and other homeless people. It was possible only because homelessness was viewed differently 35 years ago. There were more services available. I had no addictions, and I worked the day labor halls going in early and signing my name for work. Got paid cash daily. No such labor halls exist anymore. Different times. People are different as well. We are not in good times by any means. Music no longer evokes heartfelt emotion. Entertainment no longer awes the mind. Any products produced are no longer USA made, and the quality and workmanship is extinct in anything new. Style is limited within our current humanity. Many cheer that Jesus is coming back soon. George Michael was correct when he sang that there isn't anyone to come back for. The simplistic rebel within loves ending sentences with a preposition.

If left to their own devices, these people can fend for themselves quite handily as evidenced by their encampments. If portable sanitation facilities are provided, then the state and cities don’t have to fork out 24 billion dollars for non-existent housing that they don’t want to live in anyway. Stop trying to save them from themselves.
