Hey! Since new gameplay videos on Sonic Frontiers are releasing at a faster rate, I've decided to upload reactions to it on my 2nd channel. This is to avoid spamming reactions to very little bits of content here. The clicking sound that you noticed was the homing reticle placeholder (i hope its a placeholder at least) and the hud was turned off so thats why i there was no reticle as well. smile

I'm feeling mixed about what I'm seeing so far with this game, but I do like that this Sonic game focuses more on exploration, puzzle-solving and combat. I want to see how the combat system works and also how the story and writing is going to be now that Ian Flynn is the writer.

To me this looks like a fan made tech demo put together in 2 days in Unreal Engine, using free assets. Kinda like Sonic Omens 2.

Definitely looking too realistic for Sonic, but graphics look amazing. But I think the game overall feels too empty and kinda random, still hoping it will come out playable though.

Sega does not expect strong sales for Sonic Prime. Like Sega or not, they are a business. Limied budget was put into this game to accomodate for expected low sales

Generally speaking the problem relies more on the level design, in sonic too as well, but if they want to adapt sonic into open world territory they need to get rid of the old stuff, starting from how sonic is played and make a new one from scratch then get rid of all old gimmicks: those dash panels, dash rings and spring jumps cause they don't fit too well in this tone of game or even adapt them in a way they act different but feel traditional without feeling like coping and pasting and lastly the level design, they have to make an open world that fits sonic, the landscape could be like a skate or waterpark since sonic is a ball so he could spindash through and launch himself into the air, not just bringing his old stuff into a plain map and call it a day

They need to do what the first sonic movie did, which is take the negative reaction, listen to the fan base and make the necessary changes. Push back the release date.

I honestly only really want one thing out of this game and it's just that speed fantasy because an open world can make the blue blur actually be that. If you can just blast across a wide open field able to go any direction instead of a linear stage I'd be happy.

I really hope that this is just a tech demo and not the vision sonic team is going for, the rails and loops are just kind of... there... unleashed showed they can do loops made out of the terrain, even generations showed that, so I hope later builds actually have terrain loops, and rail actually attached to the environment, cause it looks like an Unreal engine project made within a weekend

SEGA needs to stop using the last games’ source code. The reason Forces felt like garbage was because it was built off of Lost World and they did a sloppy job with removing the run button. And now it seems like they’re building it off of Forces which causes even more problems because well Lost World.

And yet weren't they making out they were nearly done about a year ago? That they wanted to hold it back to polish it up to make it the best game yet. I remember someone back then in a comment applauding Sega's "genius" marketing strategy to hold off for a big Christmas release, even though it'll probably be competing with much bigger games. Yet the gameplay videos still leaves that unfinished impression, despite the claims.

Tbh, I see this as Sega just wants to show the map, but nothing else and I saw some graphical, hitbox issues. With that said I still think this will be the next Good Sonic game. I feel what we saw here is more akin to a developer map, remove any unnecessary things till further down the road. We don't even have a release date so for now I can't help but see it as an Alpha/Beta build. Done for the sole purpose of showing. It is in fact an Open World.

Its unlikely that Sega anticipates strong sales from Sonic Frontiers. I know enough about business to catch the classic Sega strategy. Limited budget is put into this game to avoid going into the red from lackluster sales. These trailers are not meant to grab a large portion if gamers. But just a sufficient amount that may buy this during the holidays. Sonic Frontiers will likely be forgotten in favor of other games. But Sega will make just enough revenue to profit. Same story with just about every new Sonic game. Looks intentionally mediocre from the start, but will profit from those that will buy this regardless. *Don't expect a game as ambitious as Sonic Adventure.*

I'll stay optimistic because the changes they're making compared to other games are actual positives. The jank can be set aside as fixes and the showcase itself seemed to only have random props just to showcase the mechanics. It got plenty of time to fix a ton of these issues.

We haven’t even seen everything yet lmao. I think we should judge if it was truly worth the 5 year wait when it actually releases in its full, finished state. As it looks right now, I think it’s pretty promising and I don’t really mind about small details like the size of Sonic’s quills or reusing the Forces animations because, like I said, it’s probably not final until we get it in our own hands in December. Try to have faith in Sonic a little more. There’s a reason he’s still running his show and not giving up after Forces’s performance. I’m all for Sonic Frontiers 🔥

The Sonic Forces director is in charge of this game. All Shun Nakamura games are met with poor reception. The Sonic Team you loved left Sega long ago. This is simply how Modern Sonic Team makes games. You already know what to expect from a Shun Nakamura Sonic game.

I'm just seeing this as exactly what it is: a gameplay demonstration. Just a showcase of the mechanics of the game and the aesthetics. It looks to be an early build as well so I'm just being optimistic.

I got the same views as everyone else, and this one made me flashback to when I found out the release date for Sonic 06, and I figured out from just the videos of gameplay released that the game wasn't ready yet. They can't be serious to stay the course when they are going to repeat the same mistakes as Sonic 06, and the gameplay isn't terrible, but it needs great improvements before release. They might as well delay it for as much as possible.

Delaying a game means paying workers longer. That effectively increases the budget. You know Sega isn't gonna do that. They don't even want to pay Sonic 3's music licensing to make fans happy. Why would this same Sega delay this game if it means paying people more? Sega knows what they are doing. Whoever will or won't buy this game already made up their mind. All they need now is profit (from sales)

Sega also said Sonic Forces is the biggest Sonic game since Sonic Adventure a month before release. We know Sonic Team didn't really believe that. Its just business.

@@Vanessa-rg4gx If the game turns out to bad or mediocre enough in almost all aspects, then things will continue to persists to hurt Sonic in the long run, heck may even end the game series, even Sega has limits on one of their franchises if it isn't selling no more. If there's one thing I know about game development is that sometimes delaying a game to better it does have its benefits. And enough people who watched the gameplay very cautious has noticed plenty of things that needs to be polished up before release. We know that Sonic is a game aimed from kids to adults and as such, deserves to be taken care so anybody of any age can enjoy it. However, those audience deserve to see the game in its best state, after Sonic 06, and a few other specific games after it, they can't afford to develop games with a less than satisfactory results. Sonic 06 is an example of what happens when you try to release a game in its incomplete state on the holidays, it was the worst Sonic game that made other mediocre Sonic games before it looks better by comparison. Don't get me wrong, this game has some potential, but with the problems I've seen, they need to make sure it doesn't become what Sonic 06 already is. I'm sorry for the long comment, this is from someone that had played some bad games and knows some history of why they ended up this way. I don't know if a half a year left of time is enough.

Only thing saving this for me is Ian Flynn. I hope the story will make up for everything. The game is still redeemable though, lets see how Sega approach this. The best thing to do imo would be to delay the game a few months. I really hope they remove the Forces model.

Because 06 had more interesting locations other than the forest hub everything else wasn't as empty as we are seeing here Plus it felt like 06 was trying to go for a sonic adventure hub world atmosphere

Probably the viewpoint of some Sonic fans to this game is like what some Pokemon fans were thinking when Legends of Arceus trailer comes out, But it turned out to be quite good game in the end that one.

Everyone that I personally know with Arceus dropped it before completing it, and a few of those people pick up Pokémon games almost religiously. While they all had their own gripes with it, one unanimous complaint was the excessive busy work involved. Much less about going out and exploring a big, new world, and more small trips to complete a shopping list of chores.

Seems to be missing a lot of particle effects and reticle, etc.

I find it weird that the first gameplay trailer has sonic running so slow. I hope that there are speed upgrades in this game. But regardless of that i just find it so weird that in the one sonic game that puts sonic in a space where he can run for miles in any givin direction. They decide to show him going slow. On the otger hand tho. It seems they are presenting exploration. I just hope they show some nice high speed gameplay soon

There is going to be more than just exploration. They said there are boss fights in areas, collectables, combat, and most importantly puzzles.

@@hypersonic223 Yeah but I fear they'll break the pacing considering you'll be running around most of the other time, and it'll probably be tedious to have to stop for a puzzle when you were having fun going fast. At least if the puzzles were a bit more interesting I wouldn't mind as much. But the game has yet to come out, so hopefully that won't be the case.

@@GottaBeFrank yeah it’s disappointing if this is the full game I will admit. I’m just saying there’s a possibility but from all that I’ve heard, this is our new Sonic game. I’m disappointed. The issue is Sonic team. Mainly the director. Kishimoto doesn’t understand Sonic in an open world space he’s had some ok games best being colors which is almost an entire platform game rather than a Sonic game with intriguing level design. I’m hopeful but I’m also full of doubt. I wanna see Sonic done right but I don’t know if it will happen for a very long time

I mean at least this looks incomparably more fun than Forces.

@@evdestroy5304 The rumor as I understand it is there are seven areas, each with a "cyberspace" level that acts as something of a hybrid between an action stage and a special stage. Complete a cyberspace area with an S-rank and you get a Chaos Emerald (seven areas -> seven Emeralds).

There are a lot of things like that in the game from what I've heard, but if this trailer was meant to hype fans up then it's a complete failure. I hope future showcases will go a bit more indepth about what we will actually do in the game because right now this looks really boring.

“We waited 5 years for this?” “I waited 6!”

“It just looks like a big open playground” This summed up my thoughts. Also not big on that running animation. Say what you want about Sonic Adventure, but they got the running animation/physics right.

Even if this game flop in the end, know that Sega is almost going to make a new 2D Sonic game after this so at least we'll be getting a good one coming that unless they screw that one up to like Sonic 4.

Say what you want about Sonic frontiers but even if this game does end up a bust it doesn't really matter there's plenty of more Sonic content this year Sonic origins Sonic movie 2 and my personal favorite Sonic prime

From what I've seen, it doesn't sell me on it at all.

Friendly Reminder that Sonic and the Black Knight came out in 2009. It has virtually the same concept and yet Frontiers remarkably fails in its execution. I might be one of the only people who remember that time when Sonic used to be Isekai'd into other Worlds, but it did the job far better than anything that im seeing in Modern Sonic games, truly shameful to be a Sonic fan in 2022. I've studied game design for 4 years and it felt like i was watching a fangame tech demo being played by someone who hasn't played a Sonic game in 10 Years.

GT, while massive, is still just a game with point A to B levels. There's enough to take different routes, but is focused enough to not get lost in. With Sonic's speed, in that game, it works really well.

I'm literally not excited about anything regarding video games anymore. For the past 4 years of gaming, games have just been unfinished, unpolished, unexciting pieces of mierda and Sonic Frontiers seems to be heading in that same direction.

I'd say look into other franchises and genres of games. You might find something that catches your eye. If not, then maybe a break is needed. It's pretty easy to burn out on games.

I never said that. Done being a Sonic-only creator. Sonic was never gone from the channel, I needed a break from it, for a bit. Sonic content will be a bit more scarce, but it will never go away from the channel.

There’s not enough time in the world to make a bad game developer good. Sonic Team sucks. It’s that simple. They’ll never make a good game until they have grand staff change.

People realize it's an early build not the finished game

That begs the question. Why did they show us this version, rather than the more polished build? It makes no sense to release the video with the older version, then a newer version within 2 weeks of each other.

Or do the smart thing and release the video with the better build, when it's ready, rather than give IGN a video with a scuffed build. You are clearly missing the point of my comment.

Yes. You totally missed the point, but rather than understand that I was saying to release footage of a more recent build when it was ready, you decide that you are the winner. Congrats, kid. btw that was sarcasm, if you couldn't pick up on it.

They should delay this crap another five years I can wait. Now that I see it the game isn’t far off from Forces. I’m not wanting it soon. 😂

I doubt delays will fix much. We're just going to have to tough it out for another 5 years for another 3D game and hope something changes.

Nah, it's no Forces 2. It's more of an '06 2. Forces 2 would just be more of the same watered down. They're trying something big and new, despite their current track record, so if it does fail in a catastrophic way, it's going to be a very dramatic, fantastical catastrophe!

I was cautiously optimistic until I saw it in action. With this and the 30 second teaser, I have no hope for this game. I can't "give it a chance" again.

The worse showcase for a game that everyone has been anticipating for a long time.

Dude there just showing trying to show the game without revealing too much I’m not saying it’s amazing but who knows they might add more stuff in later because from what I see there just trying to show what they got so far with out give too much away hence the kind slow pace and very empty seeming environment

theres gonna be trailers all over June theres one at least confirmed for friday and Summer game fest and the Friday one is gonna show combat

It was most likely removed by KZread's automatic moderation thing. I never remove comments unless they are overly offensive or some kind of copypasta.

i honestly don't know why so many people criticize the game because of the model from forces. Yes the game was bad but that doesn't mean the model itself is bad. It looks fine to me. The only thing i would like them to change is the ball form coz it just doesn't look good.

It looks boring! 5 years for this sonic team wow.

Sonic Utopia has actual momentum and physics, though.

Wasn’t really impressed to be honest. Looked a bit boring. Sonic works better blazing through straight levels, rather than running around an open world. But that’s my opinion. I genuinely do hope it turns out great for those who are more interested.

I doubt it, but it could turn out to be another disappointing Sonic release.

You can only keep up the façade of positivity for so long, I guess. Not saying everyone does it, but there are those who are questionable in their enthusiasm. Sometimes it comes off as disingenuous.
