When you slow down the fight in the acolyte. It's flashey, yes. But they're waiting (while he's completely open) until he's turned to them before they attack. When you look at the duel of fates you don't see that. That's why it's so epic😊

That or they over swing and just don’t even try to hit the other person. It looks good cause it’s fast and flashy but that’s about it has going for it if you don’t slow it down and take a deeper look like you said.

Except with most Hollywood melee fights, that is usually the case, with some rare exceptions. Fights are meant to be entertaining, not necessarily realistic. Even in Duel of the Fates, there are a lot of openings that would result in a kill if it were taken because the moves are overly flashy. Slowing down a fight to analyze it is fine, but nitpicking it because it's not 100% accurate is illogical, because it's not meant to be.

@@lockedongamingak the difference is there is a good amount of time it actually looks like they are in danger if they don’t block, dodge and such. Here it just looks like people running around swinging blades that doesn’t even mean to hit the person. You can have good fights with some flash that actually look/feel like a fight.

@@DarkSide_Gaming21338 that's why the fights are filmed at a certain speed. When you slow it down, even good fights have a lot of the same openings you point out. That's the point I'm making when you intentional slow things down to analyze a fight in a way it wasn't meant to be viewed. It's like lifting the curtain on a magic show to see how the trick is actually done, even the "scary" ones.

@@lockedongamingak you don’t really even have to slow it down to see it though it’s pretty obvious… it’s even more obvious if you know what to look for. Another reason I wouldn’t call this a good fight scene for a lightsaber fight is distant. A lot of times the characters are at a distance from eachother which makes them over swinging or swinging for the blade more obvious. The reason it isn’t as bad in the prequel lightsaber fights is because they aren’t a blade distance from each other so it’s a lot harder to notice the smaller details. The best duel by far though is Anakin vs obi wan cause they have flash but also practically and interesting moves which while not being true swordsmanship could be seen as functional for a movie fight. This is where the acolyte just fails in my opinion. It’s better than sequel fights but not anywhere close to as good as the prequels.

Disney needs to make a Vader series, following some of the aspects of the comics. Also, add in a Vader vs. Maul moment, where Maul barely escapes. It'll give some more substance to the cannot defeat him on my own line from Rebels.

Though that would be cool to see…. Disney would ruin it. I hate that all Star Wars movies and shows I hear about make me roll my eyes. I was so pumped for the force awakens….. never again:/

@@Wyomingchief They have already ruined Darth Vader by making him lose & struggle in nearly every fight he's in that isn't against younglings. They kinda need to give the man some more feats. Going against Maul would help a little, but at this point Maul is kind of a joke as well.

Darth maul was at his peak physique, when Anakin was just a child. Obi-Wan is the first Jedi to fight a sith in however long, watched his master get offed and then just happens to train the most powerful lightsaber duelist.

Also in the comics Maul literally bested Vader up until Vader literally stabbed himself which led to him defeating Maul. The fight would be closer than you think because none of the characters are close to the power levels they had in legends.

I’ve always thought that when Maul said that in rebels regarding someone powerful is approaching, he could feel the power, hatred, everything that embodied the dark side that was Vader/Anakin through the force because there was no Jedi or Sith that had all that to that level inside them. That scared maul

If Disney were smart, they'd make a hypothetical fight show, where they compare them and then have them fight. Like Death Battle.

The reason the Palpatine never allowed grievous to fight anakin was because grievous learned to duel after each encounter and got better and better, Palpatine worried he'd either kill him, because he wasn't peak yet, and two because he didn't want grievous to learn to fight like anakin could.

@@Darthdoodoo Doubt it, Clone Wars era Anakin was struggling against Hondo and Cad Bane in 1v1's, and was submissive in duels with a 2v1 advantage. Even Barriss Offee forced a long & drawn out duel against him. Meanwhile General Grievous was dominating & beating his Master literally within 10 seconds, going toe to toe against Yoda with a single lightsaber, and forcing retreats out of Maul.

Sooooo is it just me or is nobody noticing the cortosis bracer? He clearly deactivates sabers with both his head and his left arm

One of the comics included a conversation in the Jedi temple between Obi-Wan and… someone else. They’re standing on a balcony. Below them is a fight simulator thing, and the young Anakin is down there. He’d programmed the simulation to include Maul. He’d gotten as much info from Obi-Wan as he could, to make the simulation as true to life as possible. Anakin knows exactly how to defeat Maul. That said, even Asokha defeated Maul head to head. As a fan of good fight choreography, I would drown puppies to see that fight. But in story terms, Anakin would absolutely win. In the 80s, when I was a kid, I got all the Rogue Squadron books, plus many others that came out around then. This was before the character of Maul was even invented. But Vader decided at one point that the Red Dawn (whatever Maul’s criminal org was) needed to fall. That was like 50yrs ago, so some of the details are lost to me. But since Maul is alone when he interacts with the crew of the Ghost, I’m guessing Vader has finished that by the time Maul meets Ezra. The way stories work, presumably Vader is winning, even though Maul is on his home turf. At some point, Maul triggers… some hidden gizmo to escape. I just think that Mauls death at Obi-WAN’s hands is too perfect, narratively, to let Maul die any other way. I’ve seen a couple interviews of Sam Witwer, where go goes that fight step by step, describes what each one is thinking. It’s just… poetry in motion. ETA, and then you go and talk about exactly that scene. Well played.

Something else I would like to see is Ray Park playing a jedi... he looks a lot different without the maul makeup so it could work. Also, It seems like when we get actors that worked with Nick Gillard, they give some input into the choreography. I've seen people say "they are just actors, they don't do the choreography" but most of the time, actors have a lot of input when they have experience.

I mean, I know this is a stretch, but Disney can always cast those two characters, and basically just have a scene, not included in a movie or episode, but just like a short story. They can have Anakin fall asleep, into a deep sleep where he's dreaming, and in this dream, he can basically fight maul and we can get what we want. then he can awake from his sleep after and maybe forget the dream or keep it to himself. that way it won't change the cannon or legends lore

What makes you think the character who is playing Qimir is the one who is involved in the lightsaber fights? He's wearing a helmet! It's my guess that it is most likely the fencing instructor who taught everyone how to fight, wearing the helmet and performing on camera.

I agree the anguish in his face was perfectly persuade in his face . The fight between Anikin and obituary won was so sad and emotional my favorite starwars and I'm 48 yearsold

If they were to fight it should be with the clone wars version. In his current form he has embraced his dark side and light side and perfected his fighting style. There would be very few people who would stand a chance against him as his now.

Love Hayden as Anakin. It's true he and only he is he Anakin and loved seeing him back in Ashoka . But his and Evans lightsaber battles were the best we've ever seen so fast . The clone wars always kept them Anakin and maul because of canon same as Anakin vs grevious would love to see that . But Im expecting a clone wars live action series . Fingers crossed

There are many moments in that fight where the guy is standing there wide open. the Reason why the fights in the prequels worked was because Gillard made them common sense practical, If he's blocking he has to be moving away and never turning your back to an opponent. They needed someone Like Gillard to design these fight segments.

Seriously? Darth Zipperhead is a pure Marty Stu character and, in my opinion, a MacGuffin. Other than your Darth Zipperhead riff, I do agree that it would be awesome to see a Maul vs Anakin sabre and Force duel. There is a reason Lucas considered the EU apocryphal : Some silly shtuff that would have fundamentally changed canon. Disney's group of mental midgets, however, love to plagiarize from Legends because they don't care about pre-Disney canon and they can pat themselves on the back for "creating" new stories, plot devices and characters by dipping in to that vast pool of Disney owned content without giving credit.

I actually know a way there culd be a fight between Anakin and maul. it takes place after Ahsoka. Im not saying its a good idea what i came up with as maybe a posibility but i can see it happend. So what if on dathomir after the last thrawn scene in Ahsoka. The nightsisters ressurect other sisters and then all the nightsisters may ressurect the son of dathomir Maul. and then later there is a fight between Ahsoka and Maul but this time Maul is too strong. And right when he is about too kill her Anakin shows up and absolutely out skills Maul. But again im not saying its a good idea for all this too happen but i can see it happening with Disney and all. Also yeah i know this sounds so wild but yeah.

in my humble opinion, I wish Disney would lean more towards recasting, and away from CGI reconstructions. Casting Hayden and digitally de-aging him is fine, I'm not knocking that. I just wish they had cast Sebastian Stan to play Luke Skywalker in Mando season 2.

Choreographed fights do not amount to true combat capabilities.

Anakin vs Maul shouldn’t happen. A lot of things had to happen the way they did, and up until Filoni brought him back, Lucas had him killed off by Obi-wan in the phantom menace. Some things can, and should be left alone.

CW Anakin, RotS Anakin and any form of Vader would clap any timeline of Maul. Maul said himself in Rebels that he could not beat Vader alone and an full potential Jedi Anakin or a dark side Vader without Suit would dwarfs Maul in any kind of force and combat ability

ROTS anikan prior to getting cut down could go anyone with ease, minus the person who knew him best. Kenobi. Kenobi knew all his moves, knew his temperament and in that final fight, saw the arrogance the dark side brought to him. If anikan survived that or had a little more time to get a grip on his new power. Then everyone indeed would underestimate him. If I were to ever see a what if, it’s anikan at the height of his power with his body not being cut to bits

"How great Hayden Christensen was"? Oh dear, what have I got to hear... In Episode II Hayden Christensen had 2 expressions: hurt and angry. He was supposed to show regret, and doubt, gut wrenching inner fight, and love, and all he ended up looking was constipated. He looks at Padme the same way he looks at the Tuskens before slaughtering them. A clay brick has more acting than that.

Unpopular opinion........ Vader does not get to beat maul 😂 its too personal, to maul. Didnt maul almost kill palps one time but his loyalty got in the way? Love vader, love anakin more but vader does not beat maul 😂 i hope its the first time maul uses force lightning

At this point only way we will get this is if a female force user can interfere in the bout and defeat both using plot armor...

Its called cortosis, its a metal that shorts out lightsabers on contact. Its mostly from legends, but had appeared in canon before, just never in live action.
