W E W ! ! ! Sci-fi/fantasy racing games were one of the many reasons why I even tuned into Oban Star-Racers at 10 years old. I've always wondered what a video game based on the show itself would've been like, but I never thought I would actually see the day that anything close to this concept would be in progress. Watching this show was one of the best parts of my rather lonely childhood, I always felt like this show was very underrated and ignored when compared to the rest of the anime-inspired shows of the mid-2000s (Avatar, Code Lyoko, Teen Titans, Super Robot Monkey Team, etc) and finally seeing one of the things I fantasized about for 15 years being realized makes me feel a slight bit old now that I'm in my mid-20s, but it isn't any less awesome. I could never find a fan community for this like I could for Avatar and Code Lyoko, though. The fandom probably only has slight activity these days due to it being a 26-episode show from 15 years ago, but I'm hoping stuff like this revitalizes the fan community like how Evangelion on Netflix made thousands of new fans.
One of the shows I barely remember watching as a kid. A year ago, I randomly decided to look it up, and I wasn't disappointed. Thanks for covering this and the many other hidden gems from my Childhood.

Remember? I still love that show. Opening was awesome, main character was great, and it actually got an ending I really enjoy. One of the faces of Jetix. And I remember that tease for a sequel. Man, it was THAT long ago.
This show KICKED ASS, man. Episode one as a tad clunky in some of the writing, but the rest of the show? Yeah, you could argue that this was an animated drama that also happens to have some racing cause it's pretty dang mature instead of feeling, well, like a kids show. And the fact that Jetix got it is still unbelivable since, as great as the show was, it kinda got overshadowed by Ying Yang Yo. Oh BTW, Eva/Molly shares the same VA as Hamtaro and Daring Do.

I'm from Chile and in my country this serie was dubbed into Spanish. I was able to meet Molly's voice actress in Spanish at an expo. It was a nice experience. I'm surprised that the series is still remembered to this day.
damn, Oban is a deep cut!! That Oban beginning and ending songs were gas.
This show was my childhood. And now knowing it's getting a blu-ray soon you can bet I will be getting it and rewatching it with my niece, who funny enough is almost the exact same age I was and I'm sure this show will be something they enjoy... Though it's going into my Blu-ray collection of course
Oban Star-Racers is the GOAT! I used to have such a crush on Eva/Molly back in the day, and I also remember hating Don Wei with a burning passion too for how he treated her. So glad to see more people talk about this show, it's legitimately a good one. The animation was great, the story was solid, the characters also had great development, and honestly it's still very unique series even today. I definitely recommend anyone who hasn't done so yet to give it a watch.

I understand your point of view, but for me, Don Wai has always been one of the best characters I have ever seen (but I probably have a different look on him cause I met him in the last episode for the first time). Anyway, IMO, he's not a vicious person, but rather a sad man who hurt not only Eva and other people around him but also himself. Moreover, he has the best character development.

This show is a masterpiece and the sad thing is that it’s so underrated 😔
Honestly the thing I'd want most is more with the character Spirit. Despite him being a part of the biggest event in Eva's life, her mother's death, and being a source of both fear and anger, we never see the two interact properly outside of the episode Silent Like Spirit, which I always thought was a missed opportunity. Some theorize that Spirit was competing in the great race because he spent years wracked with guilt over his inability to save Eva, and wanted to use the prize to bring her back. THat's an interesting thing I'd love to see explored.

What parts specifically?
Not only do I remember it, I support them on Kickstarter to make sure I get the Blu-ray the second it’s released. Genuinely one of my favourite shows ever made, mostly for the same reason I love Lilo and Stitch As a kid, it’s a cute, fun, sci-fi adventure, about a big race with laser ships, where a girl might get a wish granted. As an adult, ALLLLLLL of that is background noise to a genuinely fantastic, heartbreaking story about a girl trying to piece her broken family back together, and her dad who doesn’t even recognize her after abandoning her so many years ago. It’s one of the few shows from my childhood that I like even **more** after revisiting it as an adult
I love Oban Star Racers growing up because it was both a lot of fun but also very mature. Like I still remember the scene were Ray Thunderbolt is getting frustrated over his hands shaking.
This show was so good to me when i was younger. I remember watching this from start to finish as a kid and still recommend others who love racing syfi shows like this.
I just finished rewatching this show and oh my i thought it was just the nostalgia and the op/ed that made me like it. But it is truly one of the most unique shows I have seen. It is not perfect but it is a breath of fresh air and absolutely awesome show. Love it with my all heart ♥️
This series means so much to me and so many others. It was incredible to see so many people absolutely destroy the kickstarter goals so quickly
It's almost scary how many people haven't seen this gem. Oban absolutely CAPTIVATED me with its Jetix run and I've watched it maybe 6 or 7 times. Helps that the singer for the JP opening did the openings for the Aquarion anime series. Easily up there with Code Lyoko for me. Gotta love those French productions

The blu-ray arrived this past Monday and i'm loving it thus far. Being able to finally watch it in proper HD is so nice.
Duuuude! Right in the feels! I loved this cartoon sooo much! I even drew a lame fanart that was featured on the official site, I was so proud of myself. :,D BTW: Its still the very first fanart that loads on the official page under community drawings!!! :D
I remember the series very well. OSR and WAKFU are among my absolute favourites. It starts with the intro. The Japanese intro is really good, but the German intro makes you want to activate the afterburner immediately. Molly is a very good protagonist. One of the best female main characters I know. The other characters are also well written. But what makes the series exceptional is the story. Races are usually rather boring, but here we have different challenges every time that push our pilots to the limit, especially on the creative side. And then there are the character dramas. OSR actually tells a very sad story. So much pain and sadness, and only because someone pulled the strings. My favorite scene then is the end, which didn't go as planned at all. But that's the point, because the future hasn't been written yet.
I remember watching this as a kid! The ending was one of my firts tv-show heartbreaks.
I honestly loved this series when I was younger. This was the series that sparked my love for racing and Iwas shocked at how. . . mature it was.

This is one of my favorite shows of all time, and I still re-watch it from time to time.
Maaaaaan, this brings back so many good memories, Oban was easily my favorite show on TV before I discovered Anime. Even as a kid, I could tell there was something unique about the show, and after it ended, it left me wanting more, and no other show scratched the same itch (kinda how Avatar is for many people) Even though it's been like 15 years since I watched this show, the opening and ending songs are still stuck in my head, and that should tell you something about how fondly Oban fans think of it.
Oban keeps popping back into my mind every so often. I keep wanting to rewatch it but never do because those first few episodes are kind of a slog.

There are 2 cartoon shows I'm trying to remember from my childhood but still haven't found them yet, One is about a group of pirates with a submarine who trying to find the location of an ancient sunken golden ship using magical swords as a stearing wheel, the main character's best friend is a super soldier with white hair, and he also adopted a kid with a laser eye he uses to hack satellites, the show has excellent hand to hand combat, and a great cast of characters, that's all I remember from the show, and I really want to remember it's name, The second one is this cartoon, so thank you so much, now all that is left is the first cartoon.
