Megas XLR is big and loud but in all the best ways possible. This giant robot action show is not just another action cartoon, rather one with a lot of style and attitude that perfectly captures the early 2,000's. So today, let's take a look a look under the hood of Megas XLR, see what it was all about, what happened to it and if there is a future for this show.

Thanks so much for watching! Let me know your thoughts on Megas XLR! As well as what other shows do you think were gone too soon. (Note: I said Adult Swim coming out after Megas XLR, I meant to say the production had started before Adult Swim existing, so they couldn’t pitch their show to something that doesn’t exist yet.)

Slightly sad story but, Megan’s XLR was the last thing me and my dad watched together before he passed away. We watched it late at night, and when it was over I went to sleep and that was the last time I saw him. And actually I think it was my last time watching Megas XLR too.

@@BrotherHood-xh9sg I mean, someone as big as Coop with a lifestyle to match is probably going to have issues, but as a counter-argument: Sumo Wrestlers. Even the biggest of them only start having health issues after retirement. The secret to that is that there's actually two categories of fat on the human body: subcutaneous and visceral. Subcutaneous fat is stored in a layer under the skin, while visceral fat is stored in the body cavity. Due to the hormone adiponectin, which is produced by strenuous activity, an active person's body tends to store fat mostly as subcutaneous fat rather than visceral fat. Subcutaneous fat is less dense and has less of an effect on vital organs, and heavier individuals with more subcutaneous fat are at far lower risk of heart disease, hypertension and diabetes than similarly-sized individuals with a lot of visceral fat. Changing activity levels can actively change someone's fat distribution, this is what happens with sumo wrestlers when they retire - their bodies stop producing adiponectin and the fat starts shifting more towards visceral fat, while simultaneously their muscles atrophy. As a side note, weirdly enough despite Coop's sedentary lifestyle, he's actually shaped more like a sumo wrestler than someone who just lazes around and eats all day. You can tell by how his body is just big all around rather than the weight specifically being concentrated towards his midsection.

Great video! Couple points of order: me, Chris and George first became acquainted when we met in college (SVA in Manhattan). My first job with Chris P was on the Beavis and Butthead movie, specifically the hallucination sequence. And Linda Simensky had been a teacher of mine at SVA and we stayed in touch after graduation. The Comic Con meetup wasn't an ambush, though full disclosure she remembered me as the kid who always fell asleep in her class. In my defense, I was working full time to help pay for college and averaging about three hours of sleep a night, and she understood that :) Also insofar as the tax thing goes, it means CN can't make more until it makes its money back. And as you stated, it's been airing around the globe, so who knows what the future holds. 🤘

I think that if a corporation refuses to make ANY real content (investing in either full merchandising/running a show) while creators want to continue it, the rights should be moved to the creators after 5-10 years. The network can retain using their likeness (during the ownership period, not content made after) in spin-offs but future production is no longer controlled by the network. Shit like this happens so often and it’s a gross show of what big dogs do to the artists

One of my core memories of school is sitting at home alone watching it in the morning, only for the house phone to ring with my mum on the other side. She asked what I was still doing at home, and I realised it had gone past 10am when I was supposed to be at school for 8:30am. Megas XLR was another major part of my childhood it was such a badass cartoon i especially loved the theme song it was so damn catchy! although it sucked that the show was cancelled but at least it managed to last 2 seasons unlike Sym-Bionic Titan that was cancelled after only 1 and speaking of Sym-Bionic Titan, i often wondered what it would've been like if they did a crossover of those shows since they both involved giant robots but sadly we'll never know.

Megas XLR was, if not still is, one of my favorite shows ever. Despite groing up in Puerto Rico and knowing nothing of New Jersey way back then, I still found it an amazing show. And years later rediscovering the show and realizing all the references it made just made the whole thing better. My brother and I cosplayed as Coop and Jamie one year for a comic con, with matching backpacks where I first learned how to knit in order to decorate the packs with patches to look just like Megas. Coop was an idol for me growing up fat, being that he was a big character that liked videogames as a protagonist (which was kinda frowned upon and bullied for growing up), because it showed that I could grow up big and still be happy somehow with the things I love, which I still try to to this day. Amd everyday, Megas XLR is part of my life, being putting a lot of decals into every car I own and take really good care of, to art prints of it on my wall, to still having the theme as a ringtone for almost 10 years, to even having either Coop or Megas as my profile picture on some internet service like Discord. Yeah.... Megas means a lot to me to this day, and I wish we can see it get the smae treatment as Samurai Jack did someday....

Fun fact the pilot episode future bit was a cavalcade of references to the works Wendy Lee worked on. For example Her mech is based on the FTO from Magic Knight Rayearth( for which she voiced 2 characters), the Glorft Commander's exchange after seeing Kiva's Megas design is a homage to Macross/ Robotech's Bretai and Exedol exchange when they see the human modified SDF 1 Macross. Coincidentally Robotech was Wendy Lee's first VA role for anime.

I loved watching this show when I was a kid. It was so cool back then, and now I just get nostalgia whenever I see a Giant robot on any show.
