And now for some fun voice acting facts: 1. This show marks the first time John DiMaggio voiced a talking dog (Fu Dog). He would later voice a talking dog two more times in 2010, Jake from Adventure Time and Niblet from Pound Puppies. 2. We have Jake and Rose voiced by Dante Basco and Mae Whitman. This show came out a month before Avatar The Last Airbender, where they voiced Zuko and Katara. 3. We have Rotwood voiced by Freakazoid himself, Paul Rugg.

Yeah I hated the new art style. I don't see WTF made the new director think it was better. First of all yes he's of chinese decent but his title is AMERICAN dragon. Hence it was better to keep his design more in line with English dragons (thicker more lizard like body) rather than the more serpent like dragon bodies of Chinese dragons. It made more sense themeatically. But in seaosn 2 just ... ALL dragons are serpent like which just feels overl biased to the chinese view of dragons.

The second season definitely spoiled it for me too. I remember feeling legitimately affronted with the change as a kid. The original design was so much more pleasing to the eye than the jagged feel of the new one, and the abrupt change in and of itself felt so offputting and uncalled for. Even now, I can't think of another show before or since that has done a redesign like that either, and rightfully so. It's just plain bad form imo.

Oh right the whole situation between Jake and Rose and their rivalry without knowing that the other was the enemy always loved that. Really loved both seasons equally, and i never saw that Lilo and Stitch crossover but looks interesting. I feel like, to me, American Dragon Jake Long was a mix of Spider-man with Jake having these powers and only a few close allies knowing his secret. Fairly odd parents with the teacher obsessed with magic creatures but always being proven wrong in the end. TMNT with the Huntsmen being sort of a Foot like organization. And obviously Karate Kid with the elderly mentor teaching with seemingly obscure chores that end up teaching skills that can be used in combat. I think it blend all of the aspects pretty well. Always loved the show, thanks for covering it.

I really liked the oracle twins, they had an interesting dynamic with how their powers shaped their personalities. One would see only good things in the future and end up being moody and depressed from all the nice surprises of life being spoiled for her and the other seeing only bad things to the point when any little good thing that happens is so much better by comparison. It's weird that season 2 they both just stopped being twins. Like I could get that people sometimes dye their hair but with the whole changing face shape/nose shape/eye color/skin color it just seems like there isn't much else to make these two to actually look like twins or even just related in any way.

I remember this one fondly. I can't say I was as interested in following American Dragon: Jake Long's overarching storyline as I was Avatar: the Last Airbender's, but there was a period where I had moderate, adequate interest in trying to catch every episode (although I'm sure there are a few from the first season I probably ultimately missed). Jake was hot-headed and cocky at first, which can be unlikable traits in a main character, although he was well-played by Zuko VA Dante Basco. But, I still found myself liking him, Rose, and the supporting cast a lot. Except for Spud and one or two others, they all seemed to have a slight degree of complexity for a kid/tween's show, maybe a half notch above the characters in Danny Phantom. But I found my overall love of the show hampered by the art redesign in the 2nd season. I found it vastly inferior. Biggest way I can express this is through one example: Jordan says the show crew found Jake's dragon remake form to be better skinny than the original broad and muscular one. I disagree. I thought the broad design more appealed to what a kid's idea of an ideal fantasy monster design to be than the remake's. That basically carries over to all the other design changes too. In almost every case, the original was better, and the redesign was a boneheaded move. That said, season 2 had better writing than season 1. I like that things got more serious as the show went on. American Dragon: Jake Long is still good, but its mere above average Saturday morning cartoon writing quality and a disparate art style difference between both seasons keep it from being one of the classics. I'd rank it above shows like El Tigre and Kappa Mikey and alongside shows like Danny Phantom and Xiaolin Showdown. Avatar, seasons 1-3 SpongeBob, Adventure Time, Regular Show, Gravity Falls, Star Vs., and the average anime of the past 20 years best it as a piece of media.
