    I just receive my Elemnt Bolt and I love it. Incredibly easy setup w/ the app - screen immediately reconfigures based on your choices. Great visibility, strong alerts - sound and lights. Have yet to take it on a real ride, but love it so far.

  • @henderthing

    @henderthing

    6 жыл бұрын

    You do not need your phone at all when you go on a ride, unless you want to receive notifications (text, email, etc), or change your page layout or setup. You do not need to run the companion app while riding to get notifications. Forgot one other reason to have phone with app running-- and that is if you want to use the tracking feature.

    OR if you want to reroute, as the Bolt Elemnt doesn't reroute automatically, but just "beeps" when going in the wrong direction. Those beeps mean "Human, you're stupid, go back to the correct route :)". But I mean: you are going on a route, there are traffic works, and, no rerouting... Then you have to use the app to reroute.

    @@pureeschaap hey... In the map on the phone where you can select a point to navigate to... If you're not happy with the route it picked, can you click and drag it onto the roads you want to take? Can you build a plan with multiple stops from within the app? (Or the Strava app)? What about transferring a route from Google maps app? Does the map have good bicycle route functionality?

    The main reason I upgraded from cateye to garmin 2 years ago was the backlight of the cateye computer is so useless that I couldnt see a damn number even after I turned the green backlight on in the dark. Very good review. I'm blown away by the phone app. I'm still laughing at how fast you were able to walk through all the functions on the app. It was mentioned that you could upload maps but I'm wondering if the unit can upload an outside map such as OSM (cycle) map, particularly one that displays off road trails that are listed on OSM cycle.(?) If it can work with OSM that would be great but I'm wondering if it would display street names. If it could that would be great. I'm thinking of buying one but I'd like to use OSM.

    Marcel P I agree, bought edge 820 after dc rainmaker review and it was a nightmare, touch screen was rubbish during ride, impossible to make any changes and elevation didn't automatically calibrate so some of my rides were under the sea level, but most importantly original garmins rubber case made unit to switch off mid ride. total rubbish, switched to bolt and happy since

    Marcel P Except both are needless trash. Put a SIMless phone on your bike instead and all problems are solved. Full colorful worldwide navigation with voice guidance. And if you are too lazy to keep track on the data that is important to you, you can always use additional apps to do everything that these pieces of junk do so inaccurately and require a mobile phone anyways.

    Hi DC Rainmaker,I have a question regarding these two devices, the Elemnt and the Elemnt Bolt. I'm torn as to which one to get. The bundle for the Bolt is $80 cheaper than the original Elemnt, however, I keep hearing about the aerodynamic design of the Bolt so it's more geared to racing and competitive riding. In my case i'm the total opposite. I ride mainly for the fitness aspect and riding along with friends on paved trails. I do like the way the Bolt looks though, as far as being smaller and more sleek looking than the existing Elemnt but should I pay $80 more for the bigger clunky screen since I won't be doing any competitive riding or racing? I guess what i'm asking is if I go with the Bolt, will it meet my needs for what I'll be utilizing it for since it has the aero design build? Thanks!

    Any help from the experts here would be great - trying to choose between the Bolt and the larger Elemnt. I understand there is a consensus that the buttons on the Bolt are better and that fewer LEDs don't make difference. I'm trying to assess whether I will miss the size when following maps. I can get the Bolt bundle with the sensors for basically the same price as the larger unit alone, so there's that.

    Would you recommend this for long all day cycling? I love my Edge 1000 and it does all that I need it but I join some 100 mile events with 7,000 to 10,000 feet of climbing. It takes me forever to finish those. The last one of those rides I did last year had an elapsed time of 9 hours and the Edge 1000 died at around 8 hours. Luckily, I had the Fenix 3 going as well. I do have 2 Edge 1000 that I can switch during the event, but I'd rather only just carry one if at all possible. And yes, I was too lazy to pull over and switch the Edge units, especially since I only noticed that it already died during a descent and I figured I was already close enough to the finish and didn't really care to see the stats at that point in the ride anyways.

    Hi, with regard to live segments. I have a Garmin 520, and during the stared live segment you are piped against your best strava connection. I can't find a way in the 520 to pip you against your own PB. Does the Element Bolt allow this function?

    Andrew McClintock I had a 520 for quite some time and to change your starava segments to go on your PR instead of the kom I believe you have to go to your Strava live segments settings and change it a segment at a time. if I remember correctly it's been awhile since I had Strava premium

    Yes, the Element (both models) support DI2 data screens that show you what gear you are in - it shows battery life in the Sensors menu - It doesn't summarize your shifting data at the end of the ride like Garmin does though

    while riding a route, I never look at the map page, instead, on my Edge 820, a banner would pop up on the metrics page I stay on while riding alerting me of an upcoming turn. Does it also do this on the Elemnt Bolt? Every video or article I've seen shows people looking at the map page as if they don't care about speed, cadence, HR, power, etc. Another question, are people riding with the backlight on the entire ride? I found it isn't necessary on the Edge.

  • @GlenFerguson

    @GlenFerguson

    Yes, it alerts to upcoming turns with a banner showing street name, direction of turn and distance to turn. The lights on the top do a chase effect to also show the direction of the turn. Immediately after the turn, you're briefly shown another banner with the distance and name of the next turn. Really nice for cue sheet rides. I have the Elemnt and added a field to my main page for "distance to next cue". Also, downloading a route from Ride With GPS doesn't require a premium account, the free one works just fine. And no, I only have the backlight on during nighttime rides.

    DC, I asked Wahoo about "ascent / descent resolution" of this device. Never got answer. Maybe you can help me? I'm more MTB rider, and like to have correct information how many meters I'm actually climbed. Here is my question to Wahoo: "Usually, other manufacturer of similar devices, in they technical specification give information about "Ascent / descent resolution". I can say that Sigma Sport bike computer have resolution of 1 m (~3 ft), and Polar RS800CX have 5 m (~15 ft). I presume that Garmin devices also have 5 m. When I'm on some mountain trail course with constant and small altitude change, because of higher resolution, Polar is showing at the end of ride 5-15% less elevation gain than Sigma Sport, which is able to collect small altitude changes, because of 1 m resolution (the same is with Garmin Fenix 3!). Both have barometric sensor. I can't find information about this resolution for Elemnt Bolt. I presume that is 5 m, but I'm not sure. Can you help me? "
