I got the idea for this race from a South African marathon race that then hosted their nationals. I put it to the committee and after some adjustments it came to life.

Wow, Wow Bravisimo Brett 👍👏👏👏 I'm very impressed! The HR, and the speed and all of the endurance you have and maintain! The other thing is that you were a bicyclist and converted to a extremely high level Kayaker! Correct me if I am wrong for the bicyclist thing. You are the world marathon champion not by a chance! My respect!

Hello Brett, can you tell me how big your paddleblade is that you are paddling. More than 740cm² or less. Kind regarts from Germany, Jürgen

Watch my heart rate. My threshold is 174. So when I went over it I eventually hit the wall and had to back off. Once my heart rate came down towards threshold again I could start to lift the pace.

@@brettmcdonald1798 Bret: great video and you are great paddler, but do me a favor: please stop to think about everything "according to the book". You are the American always try to act according to the book, it someone take "the book" from you (from the American) you do not know what to do ! What I mean, look at your answer to that person, I reduced the speed because my heart bit cross some limit (174 bit....). Pleassssse Stop to "to think according the book".

@@tomerweiss8336 I hear what you’re saying, don’t let the heart rate I’m seeing limit what I can do and I fully agree. I wasn’t actually looking at my heart rate when I was racing, so when I say I hit the wall it was a build up of lactic acid and I physically had to to ease off to recover and then go again. It wasn’t until I looked at the data later I saw my heart rate and of course it was more obvious when I overlayed the Garmin data on the video

Thanks, my toes are moving back and forth but my actual pedals are sitting further forward so if there is any contact it’s quite minimal.
