Yeah whenever Brett and I have jumped back in a boat together after a period we usually do some adjustments to get the rating down so we let the boat run better between strokes. It actually sees an increase in speed. This race however we didn’t have the chance to get our setup right and found the rating too high. Perfect rating at threshold for me is 85, we were running closer to 90-95. Having said that it was low tide and shallow so a higher rating did keep the boat running well in the shallows even though it hurt me at times (obvious from HR)

I sold the Infusion X to an up and coming young guy who is going to Nationals and couldn’t find a marathon spec boat big enough for him. I certainly would have been much more comfortable in that boat, especially off the start, and when trying to hold washes behind groups. The trailing rudder can actually slow you down as you need to press on it a lot more to steady the boat causing drag.

Look for the Dashware desktop app. You download the Garmin or other smartwatch file into it and the video, choose some gauges to display and it renders it onto the video. Is very time consuming so I only do it to some videos and you can’t snip the video or the data doesn’t match the video. I would guess (not a racer) there’s a hydrodynamic advantage gained from riding the wake to the rear and side/rear (like in swimming), and an aerodynamic advantage (drafting, as in cycling) especially when traveling against the wind. There’s also likely a mental advantage when following since you don’t need to navigate and look around as much, you can just relax and follow. Again, just a guess and hope that helps.
