  • @EXOVCDS

    @EXOVCDS

    3 жыл бұрын

    The easy one is the rear diff mount... the other two require the engine / transmission to be lowered slightly, so that the mounts can be removed. Can be a bit scary, considering the weight of the vehicle (raise on to jack stands) and then having to support / lower the engine / transmission. Work safe!

    Great and helpful video. I have a new to me 93 2.5 EV 5-speed. It idles high and pulsates between 1500-1700 when warm. I notice it stops pulsating when I turn the PS pump (which is also making its own noise). Could it be the PS switch like you mention @ 4:45?

  • @EXOVCDS

    @EXOVCDS

    2 жыл бұрын

    NO... the PS switch (when it goes bad) will result in a low idle. If the vehicle has AC, check if the heater controls are set to AC. If yes, change the settings so that AC is off. When AC is active, the engine computer raises the engine rpm to compensate for the AC load... if the AC is not working, then there is no extra load on the engine... that would warrant the engine computer to raise the engine speed. If the vehicle does not have AC or turning AC OFF does not make a difference... then you would have to start with checking the basics. Cam & crank alignment, ignition timing, base idle speed, correct operation of the idle stabilizer, vacuum leaks etc. Thank you for watching!

  • @EXOVCDS

    @EXOVCDS

    4 жыл бұрын

    That's the PCV breather hose... it is connected to the PCV valve at the right side of the valve cover and is connected to the air intake tube at the left side of the engine. Yellow oil mix substance is oil that has been mixing with moisture / condensation. Remove the hose and the PCV valve and clean them... so that the engine crankcase can breathe correctly again. Odds are good that the diaphragm inside the PCV valve is broken (from old age). If you can source a new valve, replace it... and the rubber grommet that the valve sits in on the valve cover.

    90% of the Vans I see have Belly Pans... although it's not really needed, it can provide some protection (from gravel, water, other debris from flying up into the engine bay / belts) and also helps with noise deadening. For a DIYer, it might be better to leave it off... for quicker / easier access, but if you have a Belly Pan, I'd suggest leaving it in place.

    O2 sensor is in the exhaust downpipe above the steering rack. Find the sensor and follow the wiring to the connector. MAP sensor is inside the ECM... no MAF sensor. A vacuum hose runs from the intake manifold to the ECM where it attaches to the MAP sensor. Some engines had a CO pod in the intake hose, some just a temperature sensor. One has 3 wires, the other 2.

    Gasoline or diesel engine? I assume gasoline... check the vacuum hose that goes to the ECM. If the hose is broken, the ECM will add too much fuel. In that case, the engine will run rough at idle, but will seem to run fine under hard acceleration. If it runs rough under hard acceleration as well... check fuel pressure and O2 sensor output.

Disconnected the computer but Fuse 15 still blows... Wiring diagram says there is the Idle Air Valve, Evap valve and EGR valves are on this circuit. Can you tell where the wiring harness passes to go to the fuse box inside the T4? It's stock a long way from home, going back there next week to try to fix it... it's a 2500km drive. It's at a VW dealer but it's been there since a few months and they won't really work on it. I know it's one of the valves or the wires... let me know if you have any idea! great video btw!!! Will it run fine if the throttle is kept above idle? A common problem (that I recently mentioned in one of my Eurovan videos) is the Power Steering Pressure Switch shorting out, causing the idle to be low / stalling when turning the steering wheel. Disconnecting the PS pressure switch will stop the fuse from blowing. If that is not the case, then continue with the other items on that circuit. If the engine does not keep running with the throttle above idle, something else is going on.

    Yeah, I noticed the Power Steering problem you said in your video... it will run when the throttle is kept above idle, runs weird though, and engine will stop when idling... will stall even if I don't turn the steering wheel. But that's interesting, I'm surprise it's on the Fuse #15 and not showing it on the wiring diagram. Certainly something I'll check out on it. For the wiring harness, do you know if it passes in the front fender or directly under the hood? Cause I know it's been hit before on this fender and if the harness passes in it, could be that too. Thanks for the PS Switch hint.

    One end goes to the ECM and the other end goes to the nipple on the intake manifold (there should be a plastic T that also feeds the fuel pressure regulator with vacuum).

    It doesn't matter where you connect the vacuum hose as long as it is a "manifold vacuum" source. I can't see what you see... either post a video (post link to video here) or send me a picture (click the fkh161 link in the description and then click on "tool request") via email.

Idle, while cruising? - how long after it stalls will it start again? - post a video of the issue on your channel so that I can see & hear.

  • @EXOVCDS

    I have never heard of a clutch drain plug. A standard transmission has a gear oil drain plug... should be visible under the transmission close to the differential housing. 17mm allen tool required. The fill plug (also 17mm) is located at the front facing part of the transmission just below the starter.

    Most people in North America like the quietness of petrol engines (compared to diesel of that era)... then again, it was up to VW as to what was brought to North America (staying within the Department Of Transportation Emissions guidelines).

  • @angryrepairman5275

    @angryrepairman5275

    @@EXOVCDS The 2.5TDI in some cases is also good quiet engine. The 1.9TD is the loud weak one. However since over the pond petrol also is a lot more cheaper as I have heard, I guess having a petrol van can be justified. The bad thing is however, that eurovans in us got the luxury interiors(some of them) along with AC for all passengers, leather seats and electric windows, but eu versions quite often had only the basic setup. Earlier versions did not even have power steering here in europe.
