    Many thanks, 1993 T4 2.4 D had both fans inoperative, found the two fuses had fractured rather than burnt out. Both fans were free and easy to turn. The fractures were easy to miss, as they still looked intact, so worth unscrewing them. Like the idea of 30 Amp fuses, found AES Electrical supply these for pennys.

    Thanks for going through this. After watching your video to get me primed for a good look over mine I've discovered that my fans don't switch on and the fuse has been replaced with hard-wiring which could be a sign of previous issues - and I'm sure they can carry plenty more than 50A - but the fans still spin luckily. Gotta have a crack at checking the thermoswitch thingo next - your video has got me off to a great start.

    I'm glad to hear that as it can easily start a fire if there is no fuse protection on the supply cable , replacement fans are best from Lithuania if you can get them 👍

    Had a similar problem where fan seized then wires to fan melted before both fuses blew. Disconnected fan to get home and it's winter so no problem with temperature. Currently about to remove fan to replace and have to replace whole of wiring harness as well. 30A idea is probably very good as I wish mine had blown sooner.

I have a fully working radiator fan available for you if you need one you can contact me at Droe_888@outlook.com.

    Now have removed both fans. One seized and on the other although still turning the shroud had failed so the louvres were permanently stuck closed and then the retaining ring fell apart so that one needs replacing as well. hey ho

    I'm not sure if my fans have ever come on. Not in the last 10 years. perhaps before that i can't remember. 2.5tdi it did get hot once when i was late to setup at a wedding up above Verbier, the other day i changed the temp sensor in the rad but still no fans. Will check fuses then relays i guess. Some great info here. I'm going to go out after this and bridge that lower right connection the 3 pin plug to the other 2 to see if the relays and fans work.

    Hi , thank you im glad the video was of help. The louvers on the back I always assumed they opened automatically but mine didn't, I opened mine manually from the top of the unit using the slider with the spring attached, this helped the air flow when the fans kicked in.

    Hi , not very familiar with the model but if you have a basic electrical tester that will test continuity ( cables are continuous with no breaks or damage ) most issues I've had can be found using the Multimeter. Testing to ground ( good clean bate metal work of the body or engine ) and + to the fan connection then work back from there until you find the 12V supply.circuit diagrams can be found in the Haynes manual for your specific model and are usually straight forward to follow. I hope this has helped and anything else you would like to ask me please feel free I will help where I can , if you require my email address for direct contact that's no problem at all.

    top stuff, just about to change the fan switch, i have a seized fan i believe so excellent tip there. i think ill remove it. did you replace or repair fan? recommend disconnect seized fan before driving?

  • @vwt4camperconversionclub741

    @vwt4camperconversionclub741

    5 жыл бұрын

    Hi thank you always glad to help, i would disconnect the seized fan as I assume the other is okay it will work fine with just the one running, I had the same thing I managed to find a complete fan on Ebay that matched the serial number on my existing unit, I had to change the whole unit as the fixings holding the fan motor in place were corroded, my advise would be to remove the unit asap and assess the condition, plus it's now just extra weight and every penny saved on diesel is always a win. Also I would add that i am currently running my T4 on one fan as I'm awaiting a replacement for a second seized unit, seems to be a common problem. Thanks again I hope that's clear for you and take care.

    I wish people would put which engine they are working on in the description or title,, hang on, he says it's a 1.9 right at the beginning. At least we got it, most of the info is still the same for a 2.5 tdi. BTW. Some of this info is generic but i think fuse location is different. OMG I just came back from the driveway. fuse 19 i think was blown. This gives the permanent + on that 3 pin plug. I've been in the south of france with this 2.5 tdi for 15 years. i live in the mountains i've taken it to the north of norway and south of spain i rag it everywhere and i load it heavy with equipment. The fans have never worked as long as i can remember. I even put cardboard over the rad in the winter like the taxis used to. LOL this thing is built like a brick shit house. PS. when i'm looking at the 3 pin socket (plug) on the end of the cable the bottom right is perm+ and when i connect to top pin both fans spin up on slow. didn't try the other one yet, i'm going back out to check that's a perm+. Yea it was permanent + obviously. So that the fans can run even after the engine has been switched off. It's going to be so crazy to see how often they should have been coming on, i changed the sensor last week but hadn't seen the fans come on yet but not they will. 600K trip tomorrow and oil alarm keeps beeping as of recent times, new pressure switch, the correct one but no luck, oil and filter changed and thicker oil, still no luck, goes off after 2000rpm usually. Wish me luck. At least i got fans now. That makes me feel so much better. Thanks for the tips. and here is the infill.
