    I had my wife's 2010 Golf 2.5L shocks replaced with the Bilstein B4 and they're maybe 20% stiffer than stocks or similar to the GTI stiffness but is very smooth. Handling is much more improved and ride is good as well. Price is also very good. Definitely, recommend the B4.

    Thanks for the videos. Going to be doing front and rear tomorrow. I just bought Monroe quick struts with everything already assembled. If I would of know Billsteins were that cheap I would of went for those. How much was your alignment off?

    Hey for Daily driving duties Monroe isn’t bad! Plus being loaded struts makes install SOOO much easier lol. The rear alignment was dead perfect. The Front I think I had a little toe out from the new non-worn tie rod ends. Camber/ caster were on point.

    Thanks for doing this vid! I have these on a Mk5 Jetta, and while they handle and respond better than stock, I do find them a tad too firm, in that you really feel every road imperfection, especially at low speeds driving through town etc. Has this also been your experience? Thanks!

    Actually yes it has! But I do enjoy having that much feedback, coming from a long history of modifying cars. But at least on this car it’s not to the level of those modified cars. It doesn’t bother my wife (who doesn’t care for that stuff) so I can confirm it is a noticeable increase in the road feedback but not detrimental (in our opinion).

    Been about a year and a half, 3 road trips now (OK-NC, OK-TX, and OK-LA) and they definitely still feel like new. Bilsteins have that reputation though- holding their brand new feel much longer than others :-). Miles- I don’t recall exactly but just below 6,000 miles in the time

    My advise would be to replace the knuckle bolt and axle bolt. They are both 'stretch' bolts being that the added 90deg angle stretched them; there integrity has been compromised. Also I don't know what your mileage was but I did mine because both springs were broken at around 70k miles 4yrs ago. I now have to do the springs on my other vw at the same mileage; the struts are fine on both.

    Sounds good! And mine were blown for a while. I finally got around to replacing them at 80-something thousand miles (can’t recall now) but they had all long been leaking for some time. Springs were perfectly fine (thankfully!). No rust anywhere on the car

    My springs were in pretty good shape, minor surface rust so I cleaned and painted them to make em last. VW uses a lot of stretch bolts so I don't chance it and replace all the fasteners. Wish I hadn't cheaped out on the bump stops, the new one's are noisy

    Have a Jetta 2010 tdi. Looking for new shocks. How are the Bilstein B4? My tdi have koni yellow but the front driver side is blown. My car was lowered but not anymore. Now it's on stock GLI spring. Maybe if i get some Eibach 1" springs but idk about that.

  • @turbospool

    @turbospool

    I am loving them! I think they are perfect for the stock springs. I think short term they will work fine with a mild-drop set of springs but no telling how long they’ll last. I KNOW the B6s are okay to use in lowered setups per Bilsteins. The B4s are really meant to be like an upgrade to the stock setup. Based that you’re coming from Konis, I BELIEVE Konis are more comparable to the B6s and not these.

  • @rcontrerastaule

    @@turbospool yeah the Koni Yellow in the softest setting is 20% more firm than the stock shocks. So they should be like the Bilstein b6. My tdi is not lowered anymore it's on stock height. Maybe will get the Racing Line VWR Sport Spring or Eibach pro which lower 1" but no more than that. My car had the Neuspeed sport 1.5/1.4 and the front was too low on the tdi with the koni. So if i lower the car will be a mild drop.

    Wait… the bump stops go with the smaller end facing down?? And wider flat surface facing up towards the bearing?!

  • @turbospool

    @turbospool

    9 ай бұрын

    I went back and forth on this during installation but this is what made the most sense to me, lol. The wider end fit perfectly snug to the underside of the bearing as if that's where it's supposed to seat making permanent contact... and that narrower end faces down to the strut body as it only makes contact with that during extreme movement instances.
