Love to see more people drag racing vws and in particular supercharged vr6s. They have way more potential than most people realize. As you mentioned you need gauges - at least a tach or a shift light. I would spend they money on standalone instead of buying other gauges though. Not only will the car run 10x better but logging is invaluable. Do a 3rd gear burnout and i would start at 10 psi cold on a GOOD air gauge and work your way down to 8 or so. You should find the sweet spot somewhere in that range. In went a best of 1.61 60 ft I believe on 22x8x15 MT slicks on stock vr6 wheels in my s/c mk3 back in the day. No reason with everything dialed in you shouldn't be consistent 1.6x.

Congratulations! 13.9 is something to be proud of! Progress! I agree with you though you are at a timeslip that an NA Corrado VR6 can turn. You have way more left in this car and setup! Being blind at what the engine is doing is definitely a factor as you don't know what rpm your launching. You never mentioned your 60'. Closer you can get to a 1.6 the better which I think is good for a fwd. Interested in what standalone setup you get. I wish the oem ecu did better for you, but for your circumstances and setup I think this is the simplest option and it will futureproof the car with whatever setup you choose. Whatever happens, pls don't sell the RED RABBIT or the 16V! Thanks! LOL!

Well done on the 13.9, like you say a well sorted VR mk1 is around the low 14's. I was watching and thinking no rev counter, you did ready well. 100% having a rev counter will help you dial in to what works best. Just my 2cents go standalone ecu, a chipped standard Bosch ECU always leaves hp on the table V's standalone.

Getting performance out of a car is all about the data, which is why im a big advocate of standalone systems or factory ecus that can log. Getting boost, afr, a tach/shift light is a great start and would be a great idea to throw it on a dyno to get a proper baseline. Based on that data, you can tweak the car and yourself to get a better ET. If you take the car to the dyno, make sure you plug your vagcom to see what the tune is doing. If I had to guess, your ecu was probably pulling timing due to your IAT's (I hope you have an open element 1.8t sensor in there).

Got rubber in the first 3 gears - impressive with slicks! You're definitely shortshifing the 1-2 gear change though, but that last run was perfect! You may be ultimately disappointed with a 13.9, but that was Lambo supercar performance back in the 80s. Keep dialing it in and you'll hit the high 12s no problem. That's a given considering a boosted VR6 in a sub 2000lb car. BTW - that 10.3 the Audi R8 ran was amazing!

Really enjoyed the drag racing content. Have you had the car on a dyno to confirm power? That should help a lot with knowing if the charger is working correctly. I think it is because 13.9 with you being "rusty" is very good. Definitely low 13's in it once you get more seat time and the setup dialed in. Cool weather will make all the difference to your times as well, you IAT's must have been through the roof. Looking forward to seeing you improve.

You will struggle getting a Vortech to do anything unless you're running a cog drive. A serp belt will either slip when the charger starts making boost, or if you get it tight enough it will kill the alternator and charger bearings.

@@vw1320 I wanted cogs but like everything else C2 had "in development" it never happened. My car actually felt slower with the C2 supercharger kit than it did NA. Never even tried taking it to the strip or the dyno because it wasn't right, a kit advertised to make 12-15psi only made 5-6psi tops and drivability was shit because of belt slip. Their "belt wrap" pulley system was a fucking joke. Trust me, I know more than I ever wanted to know about belt slip and the 5psi boost wall, shredded belts, trashed alternator bearings, swapping belts in a parking lot at 1am in the rain, and C2's 5-star customer service IE we got their money, ignore the customer's complaints until they go elsewhere. Same car, same engine with the same 9:1 spacer, same C2 42# software made 440-something wheel on a turbo kit I pieced together off the VW Vortex classifieds with a T67 turbo. Best times were in the 11.80's before I got thrown out for not having a cage or a helmet. I know that's about right because a friend of mine ran 10.98 @ 130-something on a similar setup with a better turbo and slicks. A Vortech on a VR6 is 11 or 12 out of 10 for looks, sound, and simplicity but the belt drive just doesn't work. Again, good luck to you in the future.
