I was watching a video of him yesterday and was rapidly becoming a fan. Then he started playing slide. It took less than a minute for me to fall in love with the man. I watch the Songbirds Video of him playing Greg's SG and I was floored. It was the finest slide playing I've ever watched. I wouldn't hesitate to give Jack my last guitar if he needed it. Same with my amp.

Jack says a very important and often overlooked thing about Duane Allman's guitar genius: his standard playing was as good as Hendrix, Clapton, Beck, Page, King (pick one or three), Garcia, Zappa, or McLaughlin, but it was his slide playing that set him above the rest. His session work was done November 1968 until his death in October 1971. In between the sessions that helped fund them, he played about 500 shows with the Allman Brothers Band starting in March 1969, dozens of which exist on tape in varying quality from great to completist only, but it's all inventive improvisation. Sure, variations, but to be so endlessly inventive that the same songs night after night isn't monotonous, it's still exciting, like seeing the Miles Davis Quintet. Jack has taken that inventiveness and command of varying styles, as well as being a student of Dickey Betts as well. They were a great duo for the couple years Jack was in the ABB, and he handed it off to Derek Trucks, himself a Duane Disciple (who likewise is always underrated as a standard player). I wish Jack were more well known, he's an exceptionally tasteful guitarist, and he makes Duane's Firebird sing like the master did once upon a time.

@josh grant I still don't see any slots for the saddles to slide (adjust), and it sure looks like the sting ball end catches to me (like an old wrap around). Have pictures but can't paste onto youtube comments. So, yes, there is cast in compensation, but short of milling or filing away, or adjusting set screws to shorten or lengthen the overall distance, no way to adjust (like a tun-o-matic). My point still being, I've played a lot of guitars and to find one that is this perfect without adjustment is a rare feat.

Jack is my favorite guitarist of his generation: there is nothing he cannot play, in any genre short of classical perhaps (who knows?). This guitar does have an amazing set of responses perfectly suited to Jack's various rock and blues styles. Such bite to it! Dig the Texas swing blues from about 6 minutes to 7 minutes. Buy a Firebird, Jack, and blow us all away.

Jack is my HERO. Always laid back. Always smiling. He is a lot like Derek Trucks in his demeanor. If people do not know how many styles Jack has mastered it is kind of scary. He can play with the Allman Brothers band, and he can kill Texas swing,or play note for note with Tommy Emmanual. Hes a freak of nature. And he usually does it with a Squire. His best sound is on his old 125 with a P90. I think its a 58 or59. Hes just a freak of nature and I love him. I have never heard him clam a bad note in any style. Keep smiling Jack. You are a contagius virus of happy.
