Vault Sessions: Jack Pearson 2018

The guitarist that we all want to be, Jack Pearson (Allman Brothers Band), is back with an all new Vault Session. In this episode, Jack talks about Albert King, demonstrates C# tuning, and plays a Flying “A”.
The beautiful 1958 natural Korina Gibson Flying V (notice the unique lefty guard), once owned by Rick Vito (Fleetwood Mac), is now on display at the Songbirds Guitar Museum. Stop by and check it out!
Also, thanks to our sponsors-- the Riverview Foundation, GHS Strings, GoGo Tuners, and Todd Sharp Amplifiers. Video credit: John Dooley
Subscribe for more Vault Sessions! Coming soon: Steve Earle, The Mastersons, Norman Blake, Ray Wylie Hubbard, The White Animals, Steve and Ryan Wariner, and more.

Reason it sounds the way it does here has a huge deal to do with the person playing it. Guitar would sound nothing like that in our hands. I’ve never heard anyone go in to Wes Montgomery like that and just absolutely nail it. It’s amazing to see a master at play here. He tours with base level squire affinity guitars as well and sounds just the same. Tone is in the hands.

The groove that Jack brings out at 1:50 is just astounding to me. The way the bass starts out being polyphonic with the rest of the chord and then he splits it off to establish that constant pulse but not all at once, you don't notice it and all of a sudden he's in kind of dead thumb territory, it just felt so odd and yet so amazingly musical.

Well, he does have a point. If the guitar's hanging on the wall, it's an "A", if it's down on a guitar stand, it's an "A", if you're sitting down with it on your knee, it's closer to the "A" than "V", if it's hanging from your neck, again it's closer to the "A" because it's inclined with the neck pointing up.
