The Nightshade is tied for the most used knife in my collection with the other knife being the Spyderco Kapara. Its no secret that I am a khukuri fan boy so when I first saw the Nightshade my immediate thought was "that's a folding khukuri, I must have it!" It is such a simple concept; its a big bellied blade and then they slanted the blade forward. The slant makes this knife into an ergonomic dream, it feels so natural in hand and reduces hand fatigue on those days when you really gotta put your knife to extended use. I'm partial to the black micarta with the brass bolsters, its the look that most resembles an authentic khukuri, but the other setups look great too. I'm glad to see that so many people gush about this knife design and that Vosteed offers it in so many different blade steels and handle materials. And if you ask me, the Nightshade is a "certified classic" knife design at this point. Its the flagship knife of Vosteed at this point and its success is comprable to the Ontario Rat 1, Kizer Sheepdog, Benchmade Bugout, Kershaw Leek & the Civivi Praxis. I think we'll be talking about the Nightshade for a long while, its such a great design.

The Nightsade is the one and only Vosteed I own. Not that I dislike the other models, just how it has turned out. I did buy a Racoon but for a gift for my daughter. I think that is a good recommendation.

Have the mini-Nightshade and it's amazing, incredibly light and slices through everything with ease. If Vosteed releases a crossbar lock of the full size nightshade I'm buying it immediately. For anyone sleeping on these because of the shape, the shilin cutter blade shape is a BEAST. ALSO I NEED AN XL NIGHTSHADE! GIMME GIMME

Vosteed is so awesome! I am absolutely LOVING the KAOS! This is the type of knife that has always been in my pocket! The Nightshade is so sweet too! So far I only have multiple versions of the QSP Penguin, the Vosteed Thunderbird, the Elementum (all versions covered), the Kizer Deviant and Begleiter 2. The Nightshade may well be the next!!!

Is sharpening the nightshade different than a more traditional blade shape?

Its about the same as any other big belly bladed knife. The slant of the blade edge lines up your wrist a little bit differently than on a standard knife but you get used to it almost immediately. If anything the slant makes it easier to sharpen so that you can get your fingers in tighter to the stone. And if you do an electric belt sharpener its easier to pull it through than on other standard knife designs. So to answer your question, not much difference and in some cases it makes it easier to sharpen.

Because it was a design inspired by the Shillin Cutter & the Khukuri. The khukuri has that slant to the blade. It may look a little weird but in use the slant gives it a more "natural" grip when you use it to slice things. Because the bend is built into the blade you don't have to bend your wrist to compensate. So if you got some extensive slicing and cutting to do this knife design will reduce wrist and hand fatigue. Its just one of those knives that you gotta try it for yourself and then you go "ok, I get it now."
