    Wow. I'm impressed. Having owned a Voodoo hoodoo and now a bizango pro. I am impressed at the detail/time you have put into the service off this bike. HALFORDS TAKE NOTE! I only wish I lived local to your services. As you would certainly have one happy customer who would happily pay and recommend to every person I meet. Truly exceptional. Hats off to you sir! I stumbled upon your video while searching for Voodoo's cable routing as I feel it just ain't right and I no longer have faith in the Halfords technicians. But anyways bravo! Good to see someone take so much pride in their work and with a great knowledge of bicycles. Thank you.

    So much extra work to make the videos - thank you. Can you say more about why you use copper(?) or anything at all behind the brake pads? I noticed you applied something to spindle for pedal install - some say not to grease this area - your thoughts welcome. Thanks again.

  • @Bikespeeds

    @Bikespeeds

    2 жыл бұрын

    Brakes. It’s always the braking surface you have to avoid impregnating, copper slip is used in the automotive industry to stop parts seizing & the principle is pretty much the same. Pedals. This is not a moving part & so a skin of grease will stop it corroding together, so long as it’s torqued to the correct specification it will have no detrimental effect mechanically but makes future work easier.

    @@Bikespeeds I think Craig was referring to the square taper, which, if greased, could allow an over-tightening of the crank bolt, leading to widening or splitting of the crank's square receiver. Ungreased, friction keeps the crank from being overtightened.

    Some are harder than others. The key with pedals is not to overtighten them in the first place the majority should only be torqued to 40nm which isn’t a lot really.

    I am impressed by the difference in color before and after, but the before doesn't just look like black from dirt, but rather black anodizing and (white) paint for the logo. Is the ultrasonic cleaner stripping the color?

    It's mentioned that the cassette is worn out and will therefore be replaced. Also, in another video it's mentioned that the ultrasonic cleaner used has heat regulation which is not used on anodized parts to prevent damage to the anodizing. Hope this helps.

  • @josephtousignant7318
    @josephtousignant7318 Жыл бұрын

    Nice cleanup overall, but @10:28 that chainset sure looks VERY worn to me, and a bit later even looks like some teeth tips are worn off. I'd never put a new chain on that! You later got the bend out, but you can't put back the missing metal. It can't help a new chain's longevity either, and that should have been replaced UNLESS the customer didn't want to p[ay for the part replacement? (you didn't tell us the "couple of reasons why you didn't replace it" that you talked about earlier?) One other thing is you greased the square taper bottom bracket interfaces. I've avoided doing that on dozens of bicycles I've owned for my own use for over 30 years. The reason is I remember reading somewhere (can't remember where now) that if you grease them, it's far too easy to place unnecessary stresses on the aluminum crankset, as they were designed to go on and settle in "dry". When you grease them, you can have them slip on a bit further than they would have otherwise, and /or later seem to have the bolts loosen a bit because of it. Then you retighten and force the cranks to take on more pressure and I've understood some can actually crack from the excess pressure caused by the grease helping the cranks on further. Anyway, I've rarely had one be tough to remove without grease, and the potential problem can be avoided by leaving the square tapers dry. By the way, I found your channel when I searched for info on one of my favorite "commuters", a repurposed older Voodoo Zaka-29 Titanium MTB frame I picked up used on ebay with less common sliding dropouts, that's set up for comfort riding under my 66-year-old bones! I'm running it Singlespeed with a 42T Surly stainless chainring x 19T Chris King cog, so about an easy 60 gear inches on my mostly flat terrain on the sidewalks. The roads on my main route are 40mph speed limits, often exceeded and have many buses and trucks with NO bike lane, and with rain-draining grating running slots in the same direction as my tires! So NO WAY and a few die every year chancing the road.) I run 700 x 40c Schwalbe Marathon Supreme tires on Velocity Blunt SL rims, with White Industries M16 hubs,... and are smooth rolling and very comfortable. A Chris King headset came with the frame when purchased. The steel rigid fork is WAY up at full length 300mm or so of the steerer tube, and I use a Titanium stem clamp from Paragon Machine Works as the initial headset clamp right over the headset to preload and then tighten down. (see below, and it comes in unpainted steel for about $40, less than half of the Titanium one for those on a budget, but you'll have to paint it) www.paragonmachineworks.com/stem-parts/stem-clamps/stem-steerer-clamp-choose-material.html With some Ti spacers and a custom Titanium "T" shape 30mm headset spacer I commissioned and use it as a light mount,... it's all used as part of my overall extended stack. An older Thompson Elite 50mm stem is up top, and I use several of them on various bikes. I like the way it clamps with the two opposing screws and removable center section, and on shorter stacks will never grab your top cap as the top of the stem is solid! The stem body doesn't need to bend to tighten, as the 2 sides sort of "wedge-in" onto the steerer tube. A great system in my view, and I'm glad I found several when you could find them on ebay regularly. Thompson should bring them back! My handlebar is one of the original early Jones Loop H-bars in Titanium, with a, unusual one-inch clamp tube, and was welded up in the USA at the time. And Old Man Mountain front rack mounted to a rigid steel fork carries a pair of Carradice Super C panniers, the saddle a Brooks B17 well broken in comfort and joy, atop a Ken Erikson Titanium "Sweetpost". One of my go-to everyday comfort rides! :-)
