Volvo XC70 Rear Wiper Motor Repair (Don't replace it, FIX it)

Ойындар

In this video I go over how to take apart and REPAIR the rear wiper motor in my XC70.
There are a lot of videos out there on how to REPLACE the rear wiper motor. However that is not needed. In reality it is not broken. The output shaft has just rusted and seized in the housing.
You can save yourself a few hundred dollars by taking it apart, wire wheeling or sanding off the rust, adding some lube and re-assembling.
Lastly, my car is a 2004 XC70. I'm sure Volvo used this same wiper motor in other year and other model cars.

Thanks for your video. With this guidance I was able to remove, clean and fix, and replace the seized rear wiper motor. Saved a packet of cost at the garage! You're missing a few useful tips, like how the jet nozzle just pulls out of the spindle, but you've got the essentials. Great stuff. PS. What's the mousetrap for - you got mice nesting in the air filter?!!

The video was kind of an afterthought. I already had it out when I started. And yes I do get mice in my Volvo sometimes. Maybe once every other year. They like to build a nest in the rear folding seat area. I'm not sure how they get in. I have put some balled up wire in the AC drain tube and glued screens over the rear vent boxes. If you have any ideas on how else they can enter I'd love to hear them.

I'm currently fixing the new one I installed just a few months ago that's already seized. I got the shaft out and used a scotchbrite and a sonic cleaner to get everything cleaned, but there is one brass, one steel, and one plastic shaft collar that came out with my shaft that I don't know how to reinstall. Any tips there?

Thanks for this, it worked for me! My one was full of some brown gunk (possibly copper grease?). Cleaned it all out and applied new grease and is working again. I couldn't get the angle of the spray nozzle right so the water sprays off the car on one side now but a small price to pay...

Glad it worked. Next time it will come apart easier. You should be able to pop the cap back off and twist the washer squirter to where it needs to be. If not, maybe the nozzle is partially clogged so it's acting kind of like your finger over a hose and spraying in a random direction.

Great video but I doubt it will work for me since the motor was smoking badly and melted all the plastic around it ...
