    Super helpful Volvo in Sweden helpt me on our holiday to get the part (180€) 😢 but we had it.. on the way home the car became more and more undriveble…. On the parking lot in Germany we changed the part on a p3 v70 2.5t. It was really hard to get to the little screw. The tip from the fuel pump fuse was super. Big big thanks to you

I have had nearly the same wit a Volvo 850 with the the throttleclap sensor, the original from Volvo should cost € 236 the same articlenumber from Bosch was € 40,00… there was a blue cover from Volvo, what was tumble down at uninstalling and behind it was originally Bosch item… have a good time!!

    Great video and the suggestion of removing the fuel pump fuse was helpful. It is a good idea to use a synthetic grease on the blue O-ring before installing new unit. Dealer quoted $200 to replace, I got the part from FCP-Euro, lifetime part guarantee for $42, plus 30 minutes time to replace. My 2008 XC70 with 118k miles runs great now! Thank you!!!

    The XC90/S80 V8 have the same issue with that sensor. Mine randomly threw a "check engine" light during acceleration. Sometimes it was fine for a week, sometimes it came on every few minutes. On the V8 it's a bit more complicated because the intake is sitting above the sensor and therefore blocking most access to it, but it's still possible to change without taking the intake out. Very very fiddly, but if I can do it, you can too.

    If after you replace this sensor and it still throws the error code and has the same performance issues, you can try doing a slow electrical discharge (remove the pos and neg battery connectors from the terminals and connect them together with a 1K resistor) to discharge any stored electricity in the capacitors in the computer module, as erasing the error code with your scan tool might not actually erase the memory of the error in the computer; but depleting the electrical system completely will cause the computer to reset to the factory default state and eliminate the vampire error state and keep it from repeatedly throwing that error code. If you have a turbo with 150,000+ miles on it, and after you have replaced the fuel pressure sensor and reset the computer and it keeps throwing the P0193 code and shutting down under acceleration, you might need a new turbocharger. The turbo's waste gate is likely deteriorated and creating the high fuel pressure issue, which will cause the computer to shut the engine off to avoid damage. Most drivers of turbocharged vehicles don't know that they should let the engine idle for a minute or so before turning off the engine to let the turbocharger cool down so it doesn't shut down while red hot and get baked.

  • @ronniejonsson

    @ronniejonsson

    Performing a "Battery Reset" will NOT eliminate any codes, not on a Volvo. Your turbo scenario is not in the realm of reality, a faulty turbo will in no way produce a fuel pressure code. The pressure sensor is a common failure which can result in issues as small as a check engine light (fault code) to leaving you on the side of the road. I have experienced all of the various symptoms associated with a faulty fuel pressure sensor.

    We have a problem on our 2014 V40 T2. I took it to a supposed Volvo specialist, and despite him running diagnostics, changing a coolant bypass valve, cleaning the throttle housing, and charging us hundreds of pounds, the problem persists. It won't idle/tickover correctly, it stutters and shakes/surges; its particularly bad once the engine is hot and stuck in traffic or at lights/junctions. Once moving it's fine, don't notice it. I'd really like to find the problemany thoughts...?

    I need to replace this sensor on my XC90 V8. The process is fairly simple, except the sensor connects to a plastic mount and the end of the fuel rail; and that mount begins to crack when the screw is turned. I'm afraid to proceed because the mount must be replaced with the whole fuel rail which is hundreds of dollars. Any ideas on how I could prevent the plastic mount from breaking apart while replacing the sensor?

    @@mosimojones7714 I am NOT wondering. The fuel pressure is regulated by the ECM. The ECM reads the fuel pressure sensor signal to then control the fuel pump module. The pump module (PEM) varies voltage to pump. The pump module was originally located in the RR fender well (XC90), must remove liner to see it. There were service bulletins to relocate the module under the middle row seat, due to corrosion. A wiring harness is required to relocate it.

    It is good to point this out. It is only a sensor but as such it is one of those critical members of a sort of chain of command. Chasing down how the code gets triggered and how inconvenient it might be is a matter of personal need. I am curious how prone to failure this sensor has been proven to be. With an old vehicle crispy wiring and connectors can also be the cause of the same code. But to settle on this sensor and go about replacing it will rule faulty wiring out if everything runs fine after replacement.

    @@kazparzyxzpenualt8111 I agree. There was a recall on certain of these sensors early on. My experience has been that when these sensors act up it can cause severe driveability issues including a complete stall leaving you dead in the road. I have never seen wiring issues other than from external causes, like animals chewing the harness.

    @@ronniejonsson indeed! Critters seem to adore getting up and under our hood around here. I hope wiring is never my problem. But my mechanic friend has mentioned it for gremlins quite often. I may be just heat related but almost all the protective tubing on much of the harness here and there has just disintegrated. None of it is flexible anymore and cracks even if you.look at it! The same for the clips on many connector plugs. I have had to cobb on zip ties to hold the coil pack plugs for instance. My mom use to say plastic shmastic! Any time something plastic broke. Another reason why she was always right!

    Sorry nut your title says fuel pressure regulator, but what you are holding in you hand is a fuel pressure sensor.

    Why do you have to turn on the engine, pull out the fuse before replacing the sensor? Why not just keep the engine off and just replace the sensor?

    Pulling the fuse out turns off the fuel pump and releases the fuel pressure in the line.

    Because of the desired fuel starvation resulting in lowering the pressure normally built up in the fuel rail. Hope that helps

    So you don’t test anything? Just replacing part based on codes only? So basically I could guess it’s the part and not watch this video
