Volleyball Skill: Not Drifting as a Pin Blocker

Bay to Bay Director Matt Houlihan overviews how to create a well formed pin block. The keys include:
1. Square your feet and shoulders on your closing steps so that you jump straight up and down (preventing the pin blocker from drifting)
2. By jumping and landing in the same spot, we are setting the block location for the middle blocker to close into. We train our middle blockers to drift into the pin blockers so that they can spend more time across the net prior to the point of contact by the opponent
3. Use elbow drive to lift during your blocking footwork (by not lowering your hands all the way past your waist, your hands have less distance to travel to be able to penetrate)
