Hello. When dropping the sump did you have to remove the gearbox? Or where you able to remove all the sump bolts with the gearbox attached?

Hello mate do you know if a asf engine will fit in my bnm polo ?

If it has the bnm engine then you’ll need to fit a bnm engine - if you’re doing it as a modification then it’s possible yes but you’ll have to modify things and swap parts etc

Hello! I have a '04 Polo 9n 1.4 TDI PD AMF engine with 160k km. Was the cause for the oil chain snap no oil change on due time or dirty engine oil? If not what was the cause? Shoul I ask my mechanic an inspection just to prevent a possible chain snap? Thank you for your reply!

You could have it inspected but it is rather a large job to get to it and you'd have to remove it, and there is no rhyme or reason as to why they snap, the general consensus is that if you don't change your oil regularly enough it will go bang, but there are people who fastideously care for their cars and still have the chain snap...

Thanks for the comment, yes they are great engines. We use 505.01 engine oil and change it regularly as you say. The vehicles that seem to suffer with this issue the most are on long life service intervals (507.00)… unfortunately the average vehicle owner isn’t aware that long life service intervals are a terrible idea, but I have also seen numerous of these 1.4 tdi engines with snapped oil pump chains, far too many for it to be just a coincidence and a good chunk of those cars were very well looked after

@P Mc Yes, I agree with the goodness of these engines in general. But they are not problem free apparently. Mine is a 2004, 3 cyl. PD with km 180k and now I noticed a little bit of carbon deposit on the coolant expansion tank. Is it my over-conservative drive style with very low engine speed? Is it the high number of thermal cycles over the past 19 years? For the last 6 years I changed the oil every km 5k and replaced the G13 coolant every two years. Now I am back to the prescribed G12 that maybe offers a much stronger protection. If the head gasket has a problem at km 180k my expectations were really broken this time around because I implicitly relied on at least a solid 300.000 km before giving in. Now I am getting prepared for a head gasket job hoping for a alluminum head without cracks. What is your opinion? Is the head gasket prone to failure in these engines? It is a metallic multi layer type.

No they are not prone to failure, they’re pretty reliable on the head gasket side of things but just remember that a cylinder head on a of engine cannot be resurfaced so if it’s warped out of spec when removed you can’t reinstall it

@@orhanabd1724 sorry I got confused with another video. Yes on the 1.4 tdi bnm engine it is pretty common for the oil pump chain to snap and fail which in 99% of cases renders the engine beyond economic repair and we fit a reconditioned or second hand unit

@@orhanabd1724 if you don't know when it was last done the yes you should change the timing belt and tensioner. The oil pump chain snapped on this polo at 150,000km or there abouts
