Volkswagen Mk1 Cabriolet Swap Rear Suspension Rear Axle Beam Disassembly and Overview

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Welcome to my Mk1 Volkswagen Cabriolet project! This old VW is getting the works. Everything is being pulled off the chassis and getting a refresh. All new parts, engine and transmission swap, disk brake conversion, and so much more. Be sure to follow along as I make my way through this build.
Continuing on with the Cabriolet project! In this video I cover the disassembly and removal of the rear suspension. That includes rear axle beam and struts.

I have to replace my fuel tank. Removing the axle is first step. Thanks for posting

Wow! Those rear upper strut mounts were a pain. Sure glad I’ve not got that problem with the Scirocco. They are right out in the open on mine. These are great videos. They will be so much help this spring when the Scirroco gets new suspension all round. Thank you for taking the time to make these videos. Cheers from Canada.

I'm looking forward for this build. Keep the videos coming! I have an 88 cabriolet I haven't touched in years. Needs a bit of work. Hopefully I'll be able to drive it this summer. Thanks for getting me excited to work on mine again.

Alvin Gilbert Thank you! Yeah man get some work in on it even if it is a few hours at a time. In the end you are still working toward getting it on the road again and enjoying it. I’m glad these videos get you motivated! To be honest comments like that keep me focused and motivated to keep moving along on this build.

Just if anyone is looking to do this... the shock absorbers, the nut is to be removed while the car is still on the ground! Not while on jacks.

Mine is in fantastic condition so I don’t have to do anything with it. Unfortunately I have to put it in the garage and go away to work for 3 months.

I didn't though of making some extra space by removing the brackets. The top bolt is soft..... as you said to avoid fighting I cut the top rubber bushes with a knife and took the screw with ease afterwards. Shit access for tools etc.. otherwise

I just dropped the rear axle on my 85 Scirocco. Did you remove the rear sway bar? Any tips on removing the big clips that hold it on? I'll be powder coating the rear beam and replacing all the bushings posted on my channel.

Yeah I have not started the process on the rear beam so my sway bar is still attached. I’ll be checking out your channel for sure.
