Best to prime your fuel pump after a filter change to avoid wear on possible failure of the HPFP. Just turn on the accessory switch (ie get car radio going without starting engine). Do that 3 to 4 times and you should be good as long as you topped off the fuel filter housing with diesel prior to sealing it up. Double that if you didn't.

If you have a 2015 or newer you need a scan tool to prime the fuel lines.

@@danielvidelock2875 every time you turn on the accessory switch on the ignition ( depress the ignition switch without engaging the brake on a keyless like mine) you can hear the pump priming on my 2015 which was also the last TDI model year. I always promise it's been at least two weeks since I driven the car which is pretty common during the pandemic. I have the vagcom and running the pump produces the same pumping noise. It just makes priming easier but not everyone has a vagcom or the $$$ for one...

@@ElGrecoDaGeek Would that be the same if i have a key vs the start button ? Once i flick the key to start i can let it go and the car continues to crank until the engine starts. It would be interesting to monitor the fuel pump with the vag tool to verify the pump runs when you press the start button with no brake applied.

Ideally the fuel should be primed using vcds before starting up

That bracket he takes off before the Oil Filter, is that just there to inconvenience everyone??? It didn't look like it served any other purpose.

John Hutchinson. It’s the bracket which holds the decorative engine cover in place. So extremely vital.........oh wait...

Don't change the fuel filter if you can't properly bleed fuel system before starting. You will damage the hpfp. It's lubricated by the diesel.

Il faut vider l'eau qui s'est accumulée au fond dans l'emplacement du filtre et remplir avec du gazole propre avant d'insérer le nouveau filtre

Joe Farrow you don’t need a computer. To reset service interval you can do it through the instrument cluster.
