    Note :- The video shows that I've installed the Sump plug immediately after the Oil Drain, but in reality I've installed it after removing the old Oil Filter. So please don't get confused about it :), sorry A brief service history of my car :- 1. Regularly serviced at VW Vidyut Motors Pune and VW BU Bhandari for the last 9 Years and faced mixed experiences. a) Poor diagnosis of electronic failures. b) Money minded approach. c) Negligence towards important parts like gearbox oil changes, brake fluid changes etc. d) Not honouring company recalls for defective parts, modules etc. e) Vehicle sent back without 2 wheel bolts once. After all of these experiences, I decided to take care of minor oil services on my own. I will only use OEM or VW Branded Spares on my vehicle. I use Rosstech VCDS for Vehicle Diagnostics. My car is out of warranty and if anything goes wrong, the company wouldn't take accountability anyway :) Plus, it's always important to stick to your Owner's Manual specifications. This 1.9 TDI for a 1 Year/15000KM interval uses 505.01 OIL which LiquiMoly TopTech 4100 is approved for. And yes, the engine is much much smoother on LiquiMoly

    The DQ250 is a fairly robust gearbox and if the gearbox oil has been changed timely, then it should not give you too much trouble at all. The only weak link on the facelift Jetta can be a the flywheel, which can go bad sometimes. Depending on driving conditions, the clutch can also have a similar fate. My car is now 1L Kms old, remapped and still on the stock clutch. Shifts perfectly, and just as happily as before.

    If it's a well maintained car, then it should be fairly fine. When a car ages, even the interior trims, plastics get brittle, so expect some of those things to keep bothering you, or need some work. 2.0 TDI is a great engine and it's fairly common now, with plenty of mechanics well aware of it. You can service it outside to save labour costs etc. Otherwise, as a car, it's really good to drive, but would only suggest buying it after a proper inspection.

    I usually try and reply to most comments, but sometimes, they get lost due to a flux of new comments. Sticking to the approved coolant will help your car hoses, water pump and radiator last a long time. Incorrect coolant can cause corrosion of the cooling systems, and weakening of seals.

  • @SujoyShivde

    @SujoyShivde

    3 жыл бұрын

    Timing Kit should be about 8-10k in parts. It's a rubber belt, but the kit includes new tensioners etc. Also a good idea to change the water pump at the same time, since it is common point of failure on VW cars. You might face the occasional minor niggles like small electronic failures, window winders breaking, etc. but it all depends on the vehicular condition. Labour should be reasonable if work is done outside showroo

    Hey! It's a great car and all major minor spares for service will continue to be readily available in India. Aftermarket garages are also now getting well acquainted and so it's not very expensive to maintain it now. It's built very well and is a safe car. If it's decently maintained, then you can by all means go for it. It's very stable and fuel efficient for highways. So if it's a low price and condition looks decent go for it. But if there seem to be lot of electrical tamperings and multiple things wrong with it, then I'd suggest you to stay away from it. The reason it didn't do so well in Indian markets is VW being relatively unknown and customers feeling it will be expensive to maintain. Any other queries welcome

    The 1.9 TDI is slightly an older engine for the VW Group, so barring a few Skoda Lauras the early Octavias, they haven't seen so many numbers in India. The TDI engine in general (Both PD and CRDI) is one of the most reliable, powerful and well-built diesel engines. They are definitely more popular, common and more reliable engines than BMWs and Mercedes diesel engines. I actually have both, 1.9 TDI which has done about 92000 Kms and a new Tiguan with 2.0 TDI which I've driven for about 2500kms so far. And honestly, from a driver's point of view, both are fun to drive, but yes the newer engine is quieter. That being said, for me it's hard to pick a winner from two engines which are both powerhouses yet built on different principles as both are very well engineered and highly famous around the world.

  • @SujoyShivde

    @SujoyShivde

    4 жыл бұрын

    But from a mechanical point of view, here is my take on the two. Both need changing of exact same filters. Air Filter, Cabin Air Filter, Oil Filter, Fuel Filter. Both engines work on a engine toothed Timing Belt which drives Camshaft, crankshaft and water pump. Additionally in CRDI Engines, Timing belt also drives a High Pressure Pump but PD engines do not have that High Pressure Pump as a separate entity. PD engines don't have a Common Rail, but they have Pump Injectors submerged in Oil in the Head Gasket Cover and they can be simply understood as integrated Pumps. While Pump Injectors are fairly reliable, if they fail they are expensive to replace, but can be repaired. As opposed to this, CRDI engine does not have Separate Pump Injectors. So, like I said previously, components have changed, but afterall both are well engineered machines with a huge number of satisfied customers and a few unsatisfied customers.

    Few more things if you're keen on buying this specific old Jetta. Following things in my ownership :- 1. Window Regulator Rope breaks. Can be repaired outside. 2. ABS Pump might need to be replaced, but VW has a Recall in India which covers it. If you ever face it, Google search for 45F2 ABS Campaign. It's notorious world wide.

    If it's a Diesel then yes, it's a good car. The diesel TDI is a good engine and will delight. Hey, how used are we speaking about? But short answer is yes. These are fabulous engines and if they have been maintained decently, they do last lakhs of kilometres. 1.9 TDI is one of VWs oldest tried and tested engines and has been been reliable for me even after an engine remap. 2.0 TDI is common rail and it's way better than 1.9 when it comes to engine refinement, part availability and reliability too. Most problems with this engine are fairly typical and localised to Water Pumps, Fuel Pump but most mechanics today are proactively taking care of these engines and haven't faced any major trouble. I personally have recommended lot of people to buy used 2.0 TDIs and all have been happy owners. You get a variety of OEM and Aftermarket parts for all kinds of jobs like suspensions, engines, service etc. Do let me know if you have any specific queries. Glad you liked the video.

    @@SujoyShivde I already have the Vento TDI. Shes in beautiful shape mechanically as well as physical body. But the greed for more power is killing me. I drove the jetta TDI a few years back and it was love at first sight. I was thinking of a used jetta and then getting it remapped for additional power. What are your views on it ?

    @@SujoyShivde she's in very good shape and reliable and engine has already done 140000 kms. Don't want to strain her more. Or maybe should go for the remap ? The only reliable modification I feel I can afford without losing the reliability of parts is remapping. Post which reliability suffers. I was aiming for getting the Jetta and post remap the power output would be above 175 BHP. I am a sedate driver but do need the adrenaline shot once in a while. 😁

    Which engine is it? 1.9 or 2.0 TDI. If it's well maintained, then should be a good buy. But overall maintaining German cars is a costly affair especially if things go wrong. Would recommend assessing the entire package in terms of Suspension, Engine Feel, Gearbox (Manual or DSG), Electronic Faults and coming to a decision.

    Not true just today one of my friend got his car Laura timing belt kit as well as water pump at a reasonable cost Water pump Cost 3-4000, Timing belt complete kit 15000 only whereas outside you gets Chinese aftermarket parts not made in Germany. Many write febi Germany or hengst are not necessarily made in Germany Mostly they are Chinese . Plus company is answerable for its work done as well as warranty . Genuine parts are far better than aftermarket ones Safety checks are done at company properly not outside mechanic . Company scanner and diagnostic tools are expensive unlike every road side mechanic is handling with Chinese Launch Scanner 😂😂😂😂

    @maxboyin Got my Timing Kit replaced replaced last year at BU Bhandari VW at a total cost of Rs. 35000. Servicing was another Rs. 14000 extra. I'm not suggesting using Chinese parts. I only use OEM approved spares. For diagnostics, I have VCDS which is a Worldwide used VW Tool for Coding and diagnosing VW modules :) As for safety checks, it depends from workshop to workshop and technician to technician.

    @@maxboyin yeah you're right friend. Local Mechanics are risky because of doubtful parts. And yes, last week when I visited VW I noticed the decrease in part costs which is a good move. If anything is complicated, will definitely go to them. But doing simple oil changes at home won't harm as there are over 4 lakh vehicles with this BXE engine with more than 250000KMs on the ODOmeter and most of these are in Europe and Russia, and they've been servicing their vehicles on their own for as long as they can remember. If we use the right oil we won't ever end up harming our engines. But again, it's a machine so God knows what's to happen when :)
