That owner has an abundance of “good bloke energy” Good pick Ronny, we need more people like that in society.
Top bloke, he's honest and straight to the point. Love the amarok mate, very nicely done setup
100 kudo's for honesty!! Tnx that's how we learn from each other. Bragging is no use to anyone!!!
I just did a road trip in my V6 ROC, 2400km in 24 hours, not towing. The return trip took 24.5 hours as we stopped for a counter meal at a pub. Fuel consumption around 12L/100km. We felt fine, relaxed and capable of doing many many more hours driving. I had previously done the same trip in several other vehicles and not felt anywhere near as good at the end of the 2400km. Except driving an STX 550 Navara, that trip was 26 hours. Most 4x4 vehicles do very little realy serious four wheel driving. My father used to take his 2 wheel drive 1.6L 1977 Hilux into Vic high country on fishing trips and people would turn up at our camp site amazed at seeing a 2 wheel drive. Some even crawled under to see how it was converted to four wheel drive. You may be surprised what a set of tyre chains will allow a vehicle to do. Once he did upgrade to a 4x4 it made the drive into and out of the fishing spots a lot lot easier. Unless you are going to add portal axles and other major off road performance features to your 4x4 then the vast majority of new four wheel drive/all wheel drive /constant four wheel drive / (insert other options here) will be limited by the drivers ability, traction or clearance power and weight. all of which can be improved relatively easily/cheaply. I am now driving my third 4x4 duel cab, all of them set up for long distance and night driving. All could easily carry at least 2 spare wheels and minimum 1500km of fuel. Of the three I think the Amaroc would be the most capable off road vehicle except for the lack of ground clearance. I would like to think that it will be replaced before it is 15 years old.
Tidy setup and honest comments about cheap products verse the quality stuff. Thanks for sharing!

Nice setup and great bloke down to earth. Love his dog kennel and setup shows he takes care of his best mate. Good work Ronny.

Very impressive setup. This truck seems to have all the conveniences a guy could want in a nice compact package. We could all learn a trick or two from the rear setup - from maximum usage of space to ingenious simplicity, it's got it all. Happy trails, sir!
Happy to see the Amarok. Got one of these and never regret it. Glad to see it fitted.
very well setup Amarok, a lot of time and thought put into it, top rig Joe, covered it well Ronny
Just WOW! I saw a few Amaroks here in Europe/Poland, but this conopy/cargo setup is amazing. Still I probably would choose something different for a base but I am impressed by this modified Amarok.
The V6 Amarok is a great all round vehicle! Great program
According to VW, the three first gears on the 8-speed have low range gear ratio. You can use third gear in 20km/h uphill for instance. You’ll have 2-3000 rpm then. Tried this myself with a press-car, worked fine.
@Aerhgad1
5 жыл бұрын
From experience this is exactly true. The first gear is very low, when driving around normally the Amarok will not go into first unless you have fully stopped, you will find you take off in second more often than not.

Awesome tray setup, mate; The 4wd equivalent of the Swiss Army knife!!
One of the greatest episodes. Good content!
Great video and us of space. I did note the way it was loaded heavy items on/forward of the axle. Great idea with using the back seat area for dog cage as there isn't any airbags. Amarok Extend/Extra Cab!
Thanks for the video. I had 2 LC79 V8 series pick ups, and recently purchased a V6 Amarok. Found the video very interesting. 👍

Kevin Francis Hi, there. They are very different vehicles. As a daily driver, the V6. I like both of them for different reasons. It probably depends on the driver, and what's his expectations of the vehicle is. The ruff stuff, the 79 series.
Woohoo.... Finally an Amarok. Proper kit!
Love the canopy and storage system!
Very inspirational. If I win Lotto, I am going to get this guy to build my Amarok!
I bought an amarok because I spend a lot of time touring and it's by far the most luxury to drive. Quiet, quick, comfortable. Test driving the competition they were like trucks.

That dog set up is genius
Great Project. Ronny the Best!!!
I'm happy to see an unbiased video on an Amarok albeit I don't feel was entirely accurate. I was expecting a VW ripping. I LOVE the dog setup, it's mint! A few points worth mentioning that most Amarok drivers might feel weren't right. - There's 3 main recovery points for Amarok, none of which require drilling: Net4x4/BlackSheep, RoadSafe & YBOB. They're all around the $350-550 mark and can be fitted yourself at home. - You can fit 17" rims on a v6 Amarok (says 18" in video), 16" rims on a 4cyl. - You can easily fit larger tyres than discussed on an Amarok. With new offset rims I'm running 285/70r17 and no issues. 17" 'factory' rims and you'll fit just shy of a real 32". - You can conservatively tune these achieving better fuel economy and more power without destroying anything. I'm saving 2L/100km. You'll want a real reputable tuner - CRD tech or similar. - You can modify the exhaust to dump short of the diff so as that you can fit a 33" or slightly larger under the rear. The 4 bangers dump pre diff - no idea why they made it longer for the v6. Less important stuff.... - Fuel tank isn't an issue with clearance, from what i did to mine it seems indestructible. I've since upgraded to a 130L, this sits lower and no issues. - Off road mode does a lot more than just downhill descent. It also limits the centre diff's slip even further, throttle control and even the ABS system. There's a few PDFs online from VW that will outline in more detail what it does and the exact numbers behind it. - The diff hangs lower than most, you do need to be mindful of this - Low range you will miss, Hill decent isn't the same regardless of what you're told. - It's a European vehicle and you will need to keep in mind that it's made for a cooler climate. Things like a trans cooler are essentially if you're looking at long steep climbs. - Look int EGR issues depending on the exact model you have. It can be easily rectified.
What a realist, thanks so much for the honest assessment.
best fit out on a canopy of that style thus far! WOW.
wonderful mate... the organization is inspiring

That canopy set up mate 👌
By far the best canopy yet
There's a couple of mistakes in this review. 1. The Amarok is full time 4WD-not part time 1:48. 2. The smallest rim you can fit to the V6 models is 17"-not 18" 12:10 and 12:40.

Yeah, but have you seen how much these medium duty things cost!!!??!1??? more than a bloody F150 Raptor, or an F250 XLT 4x4 dual cab diesel. And they have leaf springs, no t-case, garbage suspension.. not picking on the Amarok, same goes for all dual cabs in Aus. Also they are built in South America, not Germany or Asia
Great review, impressive setup !
That thing is an absolute BEAST.
bloody excellent. great watch, thank you
The best part of this guys great setup is the 9 TUBS WORTH of storage. The tray (and built-in awnings, if you will) is obvious. The VW...ok, whatever. The dog house is adorable. The rear-view mirror/display is great. The water tanks - in their place, made of the material - is the best I've seen. The RTT and shower..t'would be a crime without them. Spare tire storage choice is right-on. The drawers/table arrangement and construction are without reproach. However... ... 9 TUBS OF VOLUMINOUS, ORGANIZED, and ARRESTED STORAGE...WITH QUICK-RELEASE mech... THAT ALONE tops all others. Bar none. Full stop. The end. I know I'm late to the party and sure many others have already commented about that bit. But I had to echo those sentiments. Excellent. Nigh unto perfect. Greater than the sum of its parts. Won't be none if you don't start none. Well done sir. Jolly well done. That is all.
Incredible layout in the rear box
makes you want to get a dog just to put a dog box like that in your car. so well thought out
Very well thought out. What a riping bloke. Awesome setup 👍
Very cool rig!
Awesome episode Ronny. What a great rig too. Might have to give Joe a call to suss out storage for my ute :D
Need more Roks Ronny, 1 isn't enough! Top rig cobber
Love the setup. What a fantastic job. Would love to have something that we’ll thought out. My only thought is the antennas are to close together. They would interfere with the tuning of each other.
I'm not a VW fanboy but those things are really capable off-road, I just uploaded a video with my mates 2L manual with low range and it just goes where you point it.
Mate, awesome setup. So much thought went into it, very impressive!! Perhaps fabricate an aluminum shield for the fuel tank?

Attach a ziper rail to the inside of the canopy door and get a light canvas screen made up and you can zip it on all around that side for privacy, shower and room to get change without getting cloths wet.

For sand driving try not engaging off road and only turning off traction control. If your towing unplug trailer plug and turn trackign control off by holding the traction button for 5 seconds and you should be good. They are usually great in sand if tyre pressure is good.

Great video Ronny. Was waiting for a rok review as have a v6 myself with Rhino Bar , sliders , winch ...... and now look what you’ve done - I’ll now have to get lift kit, bull and a rooftop tent. It’s all your fault again as you are causing me to spend the kids inheritance. For us more mature rok riders, the heated lux seats would have to kill the Toyota milk crate jobs?

Would love to see a Rick the maverick modified episode :)
Surely this thing is way over its GVM when not towing, and also over its GCM when towing. We are so badly screwed over in this country, by the manufacturers not bringing full size trucks. This guy needs a Diesel F250 or a Ram 2500 or a Tundra. Its crazy to me to run a vehicle at 100-120% of its maximum payload all of the time
enjoyed that well done. Be good if a 12 volt system could be designed to take up less room
The auto amaroks (which the v6's all are) are the 4motion constant AWD not part time 4wd, at least for the 4cyl ones that is the case
