Voices from Everest: Women and Community on Climate Change

This World Environment Day, we amplify the voices of women and communities from the Everest region, impacted by climate change. Their stories highlight dwindling snow, unpredictable climate patterns, and loss of biodiversity, but also showcase local solutions being implemented to combat these challenges.
On May 23-24, 2024, the Ministry of Forests and Environment, with partners including UN Women, hosted the International Expert Dialogue on Mountains, People, and Climate in Chandragiri. This event aimed to prioritize the mountain agenda within the UNFCCC’s mandate and develop a strategic roadmap for SBSTA 60 and COP 29.
Key recommendations from UN Women’s session on ‘Mountain Solutions for Climate Justice, Equity, and Local Voices: Gender and Youth’ include:
🌱 Addressing the compounded and differential impacts on indigenous peoples, women, and youth.
🌱 Recognizing the rights and autonomy of mountain communities and the mountains themselves.
🌱 Securing climate finance to support indigenous communities, women’s leadership, and local enterprises.
Join us in amplifying these voices and advocating for a sustainable future for our mountain communities.
