    Excellent, wish the woman who delivered safeguarding to us via zoom had seen this - I lost the will and the desire to listen unfortunately as it was all breathy and so hard to stay with it, as like you say we heard her but definitely she lost us very quickly. This has helped me especially when speaking on during zoom.

    Thanks Marilyn. The issue is not only for the speaker but for the audience as well. So often will they be distracted, or even worse frustrated with the speaker, and therefore not digest the info.

    Yes, this video (in the link) is about creating more nasality, although I explain by reversing the technique you can reduce it...

    @@jimmycannonvoicecoach question: when you start hearing your voice in a recording, do you hate it? because mine, whenever I hear my voice I can only hear Laughter, Anxiety and Mocking.

    @@Atom1c_Animations it's never that bad. Our perception of how our voice sounds is different to everyone else's. Even listening to a recording is subjective.

    My throat feels like I’m being strangled. About 2 years ago I started experimenting with my voice for music but I had no idea what I was doing and ended up building throat tightening habits. Now it’s to the point where I can’t even speak to people, I feel so much bottled up emotion. Before I messed up my voice I was a master at rapping and breath control and it felt so good to sing my favorite songs, because I love music and it relieved stressed! I haven’t gotten that feeling in such a long time, and even further, I can’t even speak anymore. I hate to sound like a downer but it’s been really depressing this past year.

    I'm really sorry to hear this. My advice would be to make an appointment to see your doctor just see that there hasn't been any damage done. Is that possible?

    @@jimmycannonvoicecoach Yes I will try. Also I’ve made a playlist of your videos that help me the most and I’m gonna start doing all of the exercises every single day. My goal right now is to talk without working and straining and to open my throat up permanently, killing bad habits with good habits. Also thank you sir for your videos, you don’t have to make them but you choose to and you don’t come off as looking down on people with these kind of issues. You have a great voice and you’re very humble. I know I’ll get back to my real self because of you.

    Forgive me if this has already been asked in the comments. How often (times per day and duration) do you suggest doing this exercise? I just got a new job that requires me to project more than I am used to. I noticed my throat feels tired by the end of my shift and I feel frustrated because it takes a lot of effort to try and speak up. It hasn't been helping my confidence in this new environment. Thank you for these videos, I find them simple and accessible.

    Does the 'speaking' add anything to the nasal-humming exercise, other than just making it more fun or interesting? In other words, if I just do the nasal-humming without the lips articulating speech, will it be just as effective?

    it won't be as effective. using your fricatives will help you place the resonance.

    No, not really. The 'NG' placement encourages better vocal fold adduction as well as other exercises.

    I have phonatary gap between vocal cords while speaking which was seen in endoscopy. So it is so annoying and i have to scream to be heard . That is so frustrating. I have to use more energy for speaking. So what u suggest to do for this problem??

    My suggestion would be to practice exercises to encourage better vocal fold closure, such as Glottal onsets, straw technique and other SOVT (semi occluded vocal tract) exercises, although I'm not a qualified speech pathologist. Did they suggest any treatment for you?

    @@jimmycannonvoicecoach yeah, the speech therapy is going on but taking so long , its been 4 months but still i have to speak much louder in the public and due to that my voice sounds high pitched or you can say little bit feminine

    Hi there, Well yes. It obviously depends on how much of an issue it is for you, but I would suggest spending 5 or 10 mins a day for a couple of weeks to feel any changes. The changes will then manifest themselves into normal behaviour in time.

I've been diagnosed with muscle tension dysphonia, I have been working with a speech therapist who is specialized in voice pathologies and singing for a month now (doing massage work, straw exercises, etc) and I haven't gotten any better. At one point she said I maybe just had weak muscle tone in the muscles responsible for voice production (I have a slight slit in my cords, especially in my higher range, which initially was thought to be caused by anterior-posterior constriction due to MTD) and I have been doing vocal fry and falsetto exercises for a few days now, but I'm also not getting better at all. My speaking and singing voice (I'm a singer) is often breathy, weak, strangled and one-dimensional, and I often find it impossible to sing reasonably well. I'm getting desperate at this point, honestly.

    I'm sorry that you're going through this, it must be very frustrating. It sounds like you're doing everything you can to manage the dysphonia. SOVT's and massage should help... May I suggest that you perhaps find a speech pathologist that specialises in singing.@@bazingacurta2567

    @@jimmycannonvoicecoach My speech pathologist is specialized in singing. I now realize that I wasn't clear enough because of a poor choice of words. I'm not a native English speaker. What I meant with "slight slit in my vocal cords" was "slight bowing of the vocal cords". I am constantly leaking air, basically, especially in my higher range (sometimes I can't phonate high notes at all). I am now doing voice building exercises, which I reckon is the only thing I can do. I am not very hopeful, though, because I have been doing this kind of exercises on my own for a while now, like a year and a half or so. Even if I wasn't being supervised by a professional until recently, I should have seen some improvements by now anyway. I'm frustrated, sad and desperate. Thank you so much for taking the time to reply!
