"She used every part of her voice." Actually, there's lots left in the toolbox you have yet to hear. She has only given a hint at distortion in these two songs. She can get much heavier with the distortion, plus vocal fry and false cord growls. Then there's her ability to sing in different languages, which requires an awareness of where vowels are placed. So far she has sung in eight languages (speaking four, plus a bit of the fifth). The sheer variety of genres she can manage is something else. We haven't yet talked about vocal agility. Just when we think we have heard everything, she'll pull something new out of the toolbox. Have fun exploring . . .

This one is from the 2nd lead singer Anette Olzon era. Every song at this show was written for one of the first 2 singers. The operatic part was originally done with a choir, as that vocal style isn't in Anettte's wheelhouse, she has more of a pop/rock style. Floor took over those parts when she joined. She added to most of the songs and made them her own. Primary songwriter, Tuomas Holopainen, likes themes of stories andchildhood innocence. He's also a fan of composer Hans Zimmer, and Disney. This Wacken show is an iconic performance, and a great gateway to their music. More from this show to try, Romanticide, Song of Myself, Everdream, and Ghost River. Most fans are OK with pausing, we came here to hear what you have to say, to see your reaction. We've heard the songs many times before.

To give you some background on this song: Storytime was written for Anette,, Nightwish ‘s second lead singer and Floor‘s predecessor. Anette is a pop singer and not classically trained. So in the part of the song where Floor is singing classical, there is a children’s choir on the backing track. Anette did not sing during that part in the original version of the song. Floor sings this part at the pitch of the children’s choir, because she can…

When she performed in a Beste Zangers show, doing classical music (Vilja Lied). Turned Spanish Salsa into metal/salsa. Did Shallow (Lady Gaga) with her own twist and last but not least Phantom of the Opera with the original Dutch Phantom. She blew everyone away. It kick started a series of youtube covers, her own show and now even her own (self written) album... All the while raising a daughter, last year battling breastcancer and recently touring Asia, very pregnant of her second child after releasing her Album. I think she is the epitomy of a powerhouse and a lighting beacon for young women you can have it all.

Great reaction again! Don't worry about the pausing - it's only when reactors pause every 5 seconds and then don't 'back up' before continuing that gets annoying. You get the feeling that they're not listening to the whole song, just separate phrases as if they're unconnected. Oh, and don't be too concerned about being hit with copyright strikes either - Nightwish view reactions as adverts for their music - the popularity of their work with reactors has had a big impact on their reach. Looking forward to your continued amazement!

My favorite Nightwish song. Fell in love with them due to watching reactions of this performance and then had to go see them live - and i will say - yes, they are overwhelming in person. Floor was stunning to hear in person. I couldn't even make sense of it in my head, but a few times I was pretty sure she didn't need a mic. The chorus in this song is one of my all-time favorites of any song. It's so beautiful; I love the cries, coming down at the end of the phrases to the lowest note. Also the energy - both from the crowd and them on stage. When watching this, I alway feel like those 3 girls towards the end - literally having the time of their lives. Would have loved to have seen theis show. It's a contender for when I perfect my time machine. Happily waiting for more Nightwish reactions. I don't even need to suggest any. They are all good.

@@KatieJeanOBrien The Poet and the Pendulum is a monumental and pivotal moment in Nightwish history and is one of their 3 opus songs (Ghost Love Score and The Greatest Show on Earth being the other two) but its a deeply, deeply personal song for Tuomas (keyboard player and leader of the band). As others have said, don't rush into this one, listen to some of their other songs first, get to know them, take a look at some of their earlier work with Tarja and Annette, do some research (its all out there on the net) because it'll really help you understand the place where the pain, the angst, the loneliness and desperation in that song is all coming from.

Very nice reaction as always! And, please don't apologize for pausing and commenting. The best part of the video is your commentary and analysis (after all, we've all seen the performance a billion times). You're getting the hang of when to pause and you are backing up to re-hear a particularly good bit and allowing for the flow of the piece. There is nothing more boring, for me, than a reactor who only pauses once or twice to say"Wow, that is so cool" or "Amazing" or some other obvious comment. Floor's accuracy is superhuman. Ask her for an A, and she can just belt out a perfect A440, no hunting required. (And hold it for 6 or 8 seconds, add some vibrato, and slide to wherever else she feels like going.) "Storytime" and "Ever Dream", in particular, really show off this remarkable ability. Any sound engineer with autotune should just leave it off - or maybe use Floor to calibrate it.

Hi Katie, greetings from UK That was another great reaction, thank you 😊 Please don't be concerned about pausing, we are used to people doing that in order to give their thoughts and we really enjoy hearing what people think of the music and singing, especially technical explanations like yours. The song "Ever Dream" is my best guess for your next reaction. You will hear Marko the bassist sing a couple of lines. He also has a terrific voice and was the main singer in the bands he was in before joining Nightwish. He and Floor are often singing together in Nightwish songs

Katie, once again, you put a smile on my face! Loved every bit of your reaction! And just to let you know, that vocal riffing, you called it? That vocal improvisation? Not in the original studio recording, or in any performance Annette Olzon ever sang, for Storytime. Floor did that on her own, and did it because she could -- and in doing so, made Storytime her own, just like she made Ghost Love Score her own, since Ghost Love Score was originally written for Tarja Tarunen, Nightwish's first vocalist. Edit: Katie, I think you're ready for your first true heavy metal song by Nightwish: Romanticide. To give you a little tease, Romanticide has something in it no other Nightwish song does: A chromatic vocal slide by Floor that ends in such a high, clear note, that I call it "The Banshee Wail."

That intro makes me wonder where Michael Myers is! Floor says her "windmill" is good exercise for her neck muscles and throat- part warm-up, part stretch, part relaxation/reset. The vocal flips between head, mix, belt, chest and growl so fast and easy-LOOKING!! Yes, super impressive. "Top of her lungs to the bottom of her boots - and back!" "Ghost River" or "Seven Days To The Wolves"..soon?

No worries about pausing Katie. We want to hear your commentary and thoughts on the vocal and musical performance. I think you will be surprised with the variation in Nightwish music. From very heavy to Celtic folk rock and even a bit of musical theater. Many song allow Floor and Marko (bassist) to play roles within the story of the song. Tuomas (keys) is the main composer of the lyrics and music for Nightwish. His lyrical content can be very deep level poetry, filled with metaphors and imagery to communicate the message of the song. He loves to write about lost innocence and yearning to recapture the wonder and magic of childhood. I hope to see you again very soon. Most of Gabriel's links will have a short comment of the song style. Chose the style that intrigues you. Every song is something special. Loved it Katie! Welcome to the Greatest Show on Earth!

Something happened to their other singer when they were on tour in the U.S. (Seattle) and Toumas called Floor to see if she could come fill in. So the people at this concert in Wacken (pronounced vahken) Germany might have heard Floor sing in her other bands, but they had not heard her sing Nightwish songs.

It was almost 10 years ago in 2014, i was a 20 years old metalhead. Only information of Nightwish I had was 'They changed their original vocalist years ago'. I knew only one song of theirs, which was "She is My Sin" and that was all. Was not a fan or anything. On that awesomely random night, This show's DVD popped up on my laptop screen and i was like "eh, why not.." I watch entire live shows once or twice a year maybe. SO YEAH, 10 years later i still remember how amazed i was listening to Floor and Nightwish. I think the best word to describe how I felt is 'enchanted'. Now it is 2023 and I still have Floor's voice on many of my daily playlists.

I am new to your channel and am enjoying it immensely. I do not mind the pauses and understand why completely. A couple of tidbits about Nightwish that i have learned over the past 2 years since I joined the Nightwish Army. One is that at this point in history, Floor was a temporary fill in and had only been with the group for about 7 months. She was scheduled to only finish this tour but was so taken by the Nightwish fans and band that she was made a permanent member of the group. Secondly, and if you are not a fan of heavy metal music, you may not realize the size and importance of performing at the Waken Open Air Festival. This is one of the largest metal gatherings in the world and there were about 82,000 people attending this concert. It also was being recorded for a DVD that the band was putting out, so there was a lot of pressure on the band to have a great performance. None of the music that was performed here was written for Floor, but the two previous singers for the band. If you watch videos of later concerts, you will see that she is a little more relaxed and relates even better to the audience. One of the best examples of this is the video of the song "I Want My Tears Back" from Buenos Aires. She has a great time with the audience while she is on stage. Lastly, she has one of the most versatile singing voices that I have ever heard. She has the ability to sing anything from opera to country music. The closest singer that I know of to her abilities is Linda Ronstadt in her prime. Floor has started to record and tour on her own, along with the work with Nightwish. She really shows her versatility in her solo recordings. She has many of those on line for you to check out. Sorry to make this comment so long, but there is a lot to talk about when you bring up Nightwish.
