    I feel like the warmth and tenderness of his personality (or persona) are reflected tonally in his singing, which likely stems from how our subconscious intentions greatly affect everything we do.

  • @jhakardballoch2986

    @jhakardballoch2986

    This is interesting. Another idea to consider is how the definition of a warm sounding voice is kind of arbitrary and unrelated to the literal meaning of warmth. Do we subconsciously associate a voice with these characteristics with warmth, or have we simply mutually agreed on the term warmth as a means of characterising a voice. It could be a combination of both. The former answer more strongly reinforces your idea as it links what we instinctually feel to our voice, whereas the latter is based on intellectual ideas preconceived by those around us.

  • @LyndseyMacPherson

    @LyndseyMacPherson

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@jhakardballoch2986 Yes! Very interesting, indeed. I think "warmth," as it relates to tone, is likely one part short list of agreed-upon qualities and one part emotional registration. I acknowledge my original supposition could be greatly flawed in this example; however, I do believe the energy of our intentions--those oft' unvoiced drives and purpose with which we approach every action--greatly affect outcomes.

    What you said about Harry and not caring too much about what other people think was so lovely, beautiful & true! That's really one of the things that makes Harry so special and it's a quality I admire so much about him. I think it's also one of the reasons why he's so charismatic & interesting to so many people. Anyways, great video as always, Sam! You have a lovely day, too! :)

    I have 0 interest in singing other than my own amazing karaoke attempts, which to be fair are more like a Stars In Their Eyes show, whereby fuelled with alcohol I actually DO become the star and produce an amazing sound...so I've no idea how Sam Johnson came up on my recommended list years ago I clicked because of his lovely smile, and much later on I'm still here due to his amazing smile! I LOVE the way this young man is so damn positive about everyone. There's no bitchy look-at-me-on-YT, it's really all singing teacher giving assistance and going on the positive view of how people can improve and enjoy their own music/voice If I decided to have a go at being Maria Callas I'd sure go to someone like Sam Johnson for lessons Sam, keep smiling you little sweetheart x

    So true about harmonies. I used to be absolute dog shit at creating/following any harmonies. I'd always be flat or super unsure where I should take it. Then I really took the time to do what you said. I learned every part of songs I already loved to sing and each time I sang through, I picked a different harmony. It slowly became easier and easier to notice background harmonies in general (that I straight up ignored hearing before) and then it became easier to predict how a harmony would sound before hearing it at all. Now I find myself singing the harmony automatically and that feels really good considering where I started. Singing truly requires practice. I think people often forget that.

    I love that intentional break that backing vocalist has. I’ve been trying to find that in myself but I’ve been taught and trained to smooth over that so it’s hard to finf it and strengthen it. Or maybe I just don’t have the voice for it. But good video though, I love this song and it’s even better live.

    Just try to make a distinct difference between the vocal qualitiey in volume and vowels... For a fuller voice quality use more metallic vowels like e, ae, oh... For the flipped thinner quality u, o and i. It also really helps to increase the volume a little before letting the flip happen. Practice yodeling slowly... 😊. That might help a little. Former classically studied singer here and now mainly working in the pop/rock field (so I know the issues).

    Sam, I love you. You do remind of an elf that got stuck on Earth for some reason as a kid and then got super into gaming

    Following on from your recent community post: came to KZread today, the very first thing I noticed on the homepage was your thumbnail and the return to style (no pun intended) with your title. If you experiment with the style again, all caps & bold colours seem to be the way to go, but I also associate that colour blue with you automatically (plus understanding Harry Styles' vocals will always be interesting 😀👍😀 ).

    He uses vocal fry a lot. I really love how and when he uses it. I love this late 60’s to 70’s vibes.

    I love your videos! Now, I don't understand a lot about vocal performance, but I would love to see you react to and analyse one of John Farnham's live performances of 'Your the Voice'. He is a legend of Aussie music and has been singing that song since the 80s - and still hitting the high notes and power at 67 at the 2016 ARIAs when he was inducted into the hall of fame.

    Not a huge Harry Styles fan (not that I dislike him either) but I enjoyed this song. I agree with Sam that the mix of the band is AMAZING on this one. The dynamics of how he came is soft and then became more of the prominent voice towards the end of the song made it feel like they were just jamming and having a good time.
