  Mr Johnson, if you were an experienced vocal coach, you would have actually listened to the multiple genres Jacob can sing before your comments. he can sing in any style that he wants. And to pick on him in a charity raise to give an emotional performance and tell your audience he can't sing is utterly ridiculous. Go play the Christmas song, moon River snarky puppy jazz piece, the mahogany sessions series, in my room album, or the latest three or four pop songs that he's recorded and you will find that he can sing any style of music he wants and guess what, you can't ! just because you didn't like the way he sang it on this song gives you no right to criticize his capabilities. you can say this song style wasn't your thing, but to tell me his capabilities aren't there when he has some of the purest tone and range and endless genre styles that he can pull at any time he wants, your nutz.

  I watched another vocal teacher react to this same performance, and she argued that Dimash's shaking of his head during the high notes is not the result of a bad technique. According to her, it is an involuntary reaction because the resonation in the skull happens so drastically.

  I'm assuming some of the earlier posters revealed this was at a talent show--in which he placed second. Edit: I should add that he placed second because this was a Chinese talent show and their rule said that a non-Chinese (he's from Uzbekistan) could not win the show. After this show, they changed the rule.

  There's an old saying "People who can, do; people who can't, teach (or become critics)! lol. For him to say this is recorded and then later lip synced when she and a lot of other people say it is, is somewhat presumptuous. Of course, the microphone is doing a lot of work. Take away the sound system of any pro soloist or group and it would greatly diminish their impact. In fact, nowadays, if you took away auto-tune, they would bomb big time. I remember when I was in junior high school and first heard the Beatles, all I could think was "Why do people think they're so great, when they sing off-key half the time!." Then I realized that it was the image that was drawing kids in. They got better as their music career progressed, or maybe their sound systems got better. When the Rolling Stones came along, I hated them because they were lucky to hit right on the key. Then when auto-tune came along, you could no longer tell who could actually sing and who couldn't.

  Can you react to Daneliya Tuleshova's new song "Tied"? It's her first single and video and it is out of this world. Daneliya is an up and coming singer and her voice is best described as a cross between Ariana Grande and Amy Lee of Evanescence. Her vocals are like candy and haunting in this song.   Sam, I am a Mariah Carey Lamb for 30* years. I am also personally a light Soprano which is prob what attracted me to her songs as finally there were notes that felt in my range on the video shows. But what you just said was packed with more knowledge and tips than I’ve ever heard on singing and technique. It was so helpful for me.
