Before this song, she tried to give up her singing career. She thought this song was final in her life. Her doctor had also given up her pneumonia. Her voice was unusual in this song. There was a problem with her lungs, so she used her head, not her lungs, in high note. She gave up her desire for perfection and focused only on message delivery, which led to a completely different level of singing. She is not a pop singer. She was learning how to sing and deliver emotions like pop music. But she doesn't sing for money. She is cancer survivor. But I'm always worried about her health. Whenever she sings a great song, I worry about how many more songs she can sing in the future. Every time she sings with her whole body, I feel happy and sad. The song seems to shorten her life.

I was there in person to witness this phenomenal performance live show!! I 've been her immortal song 2 west life special show. She was just another level!!!!! I was shivering and crying like a little baby.... She is truly outstanding singer and person. I can't describe how phenomenal her live was. It is TOO UNREALISTIC. Sohyang always sends shivers down my spine. Every. Time I realize that her KZread live video sound quality is shitty!!!! Her live is 1000000000000000000 time better than that!!! This video doesn't even deliver half of what she did up there. I was in a complete shock and mesmerized at the point that I couldn't think of anything else besides her for more than 1year after that night. And She is Too humble and amazing!!! I love more than her ever. I wish she can do World Tour like Beyonce or Adele. I wish u can experience this performance live. You tube audio cannot show her power vocal perfectly, need to watch it LIVE!!! Because of the limitation of stupid televised audio system. They not only cut the huge resonances but sometimes even distort her voice. And in 22.Jul This year, I went to see her begin again korea ep 9. Her mocrophone volume was reduced. I watched it there in live. She was sooooooo tiny(150~155cm ish..)but her volume was huuuuuuuge!!! She was requested reduced volume it and staffs and producers want to volume balanced with other singers.

She went from Diva to Queen, Queen to Legend, Legend to Goddess in one song, y’all.

The music world has many categories, singers, vocalists, idols, divas and Sohyang level, her level is insanely insane! Her voice is literally a blessing from God. Sohyang touches our souls with her singing. Above perfection!

I studied voice and singing for years and I cannot not cry when I listen to Sohyang! Heheh

"Everyone" is a testament to her stamina. It's 7 minutes of mixed belt above C, non-stop.

Amazing is that she was suffering with pneumonia and still walked up on the stage and delivered this ... You should react to what is considered her signature performance of Everyone .. but .. have your tissues on hand or you'll be in another reactors cry to So Hyang video.

From 2016-2019, her health condition deteriorated and her bouts of pneumonia kept coming back. So most of the time when she's performing in this period of time, you can hear some odd qualities in her singing that indicate her health. I kid you not, if she wasn't sick, she would've belted that Bb5 near the end instead of using falsetto. But you can hear when she hit that G5 before the Bb5, she was already in a high larynx position and quite mixed too, which showed some of her struggles behind the scenes.

I come here a bit late, John, so you may already know that she makes her own arrangements for the songs, the Chorus, and the Orchestra. She has written several books, and I believe she is a singing teacher. A wonderful lady. for many more reasons, as well. Welcome to the world of Sohyang, the Spellbinder. Cheers.

They are an amazingly talented family and she is the net result! Emre Yucelen, a Turkish music producer, did an hour long interview with So Hyang with good English subtitles where she explains all these things. It is truly fascinating to listen to. She lectures at University on voice and music, has written several songs, and can sing the greatest hits from any venue. If you haven't already, do a Search on her name - it will be very rewarding. Sohyang's singing is whole textbook that one enjoys reading. The little things she does which are just so perfect. She is just something to study.

She had pneumonia when she did this performance. She was actually for a bid in by her doctors to perform, and she not only perform but presented this top quality level of performance! Imagine what she could’ve done with this song if she was well? I find it hard to imagine. But she’s just that good.

Sohyang has been living with the several times of pneumonia in her lifetime and that is why she has given up the chance of music activity in America. In fact, she was famous for her vocal ability to the major USA music companies, which wanted to contract with her 10 years ago.

I don't know much about singing skill. But I what I know is her singing makes me cry.

Your admiration of her talent and skill is so much more meaningful BECAUSE you are a voice teacher. You KNOW what she is doing. Thanks for explaining for non-singers.

What I mostly love about this performance is that I can feel her sincerity when she sings “you raise me up so I can stand on mountain, etc, etc.” She literally is relying on God to do what is impossible to do in her given the situation. It should have been impossible to sing this with pneumonia. But her faith carried this song, and you literally feel the power of the Holy Spirit oozing out. She has sung better both before and after. But this one, you can literally feel her soul coming out through the monitor.

Henry, you are already famous as a big fan of Sohyang in Korea.

John, you have seen two of Sohyang's performances in a similar setting. Now, please find her performance of Whitney Houston's "I Have Nothing". Note: chose ONLY the Legend version. Immortal Songs 2 is such a popular platform in the KBS channel and so many great performances from that show for countless years. Sohyang's version and rendition of You Raise Me Up - talk about great gospel energy here. The kind that gives you goosebumps!! From the highs and lows I was entertained and moved! Great video!! She has wonderful vocal skills and stage presence. But she knows first hand - music is most important when moving the audiences.

As many others have suggested, you must listen to her singing "Everyone". I doubt there is any female singer in the world who could match her stamina, vocal technique, and emotional presentation. The arrangement, fabulous as it is, is nearly impossible to perform. In fact, I can't even imagine another singer even attempting it.

I think you will enjoy her live performances in "Begin Again" concert series. Her true voice shines as there are minimal instrumentations. A guitar or keyboard is usually all that accompanies her masterful storytelling sessions via Whitney, Alicia Keys, etc. I really love its casual live vibe as well.

Hi John, you are my favorite vocal teacher on KZread because you are experienced, knowledgeable, legitimate (eg published), and most important, you are able to teach your audience what an artist is doing in simple, easy to understand terms. You are very selective in whom you react to; I wish you would do more reactions (although I understand that you are a teacher and not a typical reactor). I (and others) strongly suggest that you react to her 7 minute masterpiece "Everyone" (preferably with English subtitles which makes the performance more poignant) which many feel is her best performance. She has stated that this was her most difficult performance due to breath control; you would certainly appreciate it.

You must see it,even if its the only 1 from this show so you can see if you can notice a difference in her. A selfless individual. When asked why she does not take up international offers to tour, she replies she is not interested in making money or seeking fame.

Just to add to her amazing talent... she does her own arrangements as well.. this woman is not just one of the best singers on the planet, but just an amazing all around musician. She can do it all ... I really don't think there is anything she can't sing. Stunning performer as well. Every song becomes an experience.. And if I was one of the original artists, I would just tell Sohyang to go ahead and take the song and put her name on it. I would not want to sing a song after she has done it. I love this woman, amazing singer, wonderful person and nothing but class. She doesn't need to have riskey videos, just stand on stage and sing. This is a testament to my belief, that you can never outdo great music and musicianship. There is nothing better!

I am not a music teacher or any kind of music expert. But I am so glad that you, a pro, and I, agree that this Woman is in a class with a very few members of the class. There is a note toward the end that hits me in the core of my heart and brings tears to my eyes every time. Morrisette and Lara Fabian are classmates. Diana Ankudinova and Polina Gagarina are waiting in the wings. Pretty f-ing unbelievable. Best to you.
