what I love about watching SoHyang is how she wears her heart on her sleeve when she is singing. She is completely open and genuine, and I completely agree with what you said about her energy. She has an ability to look the audience in the eye and encourage them to connect to the song along with her. She's very charismatic. I would like for you to please react to her rendition of " lean on me".

nice reaction, and thank you for the great analysis. what i most value in her performances is the ability for her to connect with my emotions on a level that no other singer can. for me it's not just about her perfect pitch or high notes, it's more about the emotions she put in her singing a great example would be her performance "Everyone" that i would like you to listen and react to. Thanks again!

Thanks for the interesting analysis. The sliding of jawline during Sohyang's performances seemed particularly noticeable during the 2015 period. It's interesting to hear your hypothesis on its causes. I wondered about it as well at a time. Whatever its cause, I didn't notice it in her more recent performances. I also want to applaud you for making the point about bringing the emotional commitment to the performance. There are many wonderful vocalists, including some who are downright awe-inspiring or even shocking to hear. However, I don't find anyone else who comes close to provoking the level of emotional response in me the way Sohyang can. The willingness to expend the energy and to make the emotional connection is really something that sets Sohyang apart for me. She can stir up feelings in my no other earthling can. Appreciate your insight.

Please react to Raise me up from 2018, it is amazing performance too, notice that she was sick and very tired there. Also there are a lot of other songs like I have nothing, Everyone, Dream, Fate, King of Masked Singer collection ( this is interesting because she wears a mask and varies the genres, also she was so tired in between and before the performances that she started to eat meat even though she really dislikes it to keep her energy level somewhat high), Lean on me, It’s only my world etc. She is an amazing hard worker, who rehearses a new song for more then 100 times and rearranges it to suit herself. Also she says she is always very nervous on big stage( especially in the earlier part of her career), because she prefers gospel songs and finds high belting really tiresome, but i guess her extreme practice and belief in God helps. Now she is of course very accustomed to it already. Almost noone pays attention, but you may consider comparing her performances of same songs in 2012 and 2015 or even from 2015 to 2018.She is constantly working on improving her performances and technique which is amazing and really hard to do at this level. Thanks.

In my opinion, there were too many breaks in the song. Half of the number would have still been too many. Your old format of using just a couple breaks made the reaction less frustrating. That being said, because I am familiar with your analysis, I will continue to watch regardless. However, if I was a new viewer, I would be too impatient with this reaction to continue watching.

i agree completely, as a new viewer of the channel. i'll likely check in to see if he's covered any of my favorite artists, but likely won't subscribe. there is something agitating about having an incredibly powerful & commanding performance broken up by "fun facts!" every 30 seconds, & breaking the mood for a full 5 seconds each time. i understand copyright strikes & such, but hopefully there will be a better alternative in the future for avoiding these! edited to say: after really thinking about it, i realized there's particular instances where dimash manages to hold a note for nearly the entire duration of time elapsed between the breaks in the video. just kinda drove yr original point home even more for me.

Good point on the energy. I would use the word "radiance". Whatever it is, Sohyang is beaming plenty of positive aura when she performs. Perhaps it's due to how her background and history shaped her into who she is, a genuinely humble and kind human being, making personal human connections with others via her vocal instrument. As for what she's doing with her jaw, it was noticeable for a couple of years, roughly from 2012 to 2015. (It kinda reminded me of Barbara Streisand in a way.) I don't recall seeing that in Sohyang's early performances when she was young (when her techniques was just meh). Feel free if anyone can clue me in with samples I haven't seen. I could be mistaken, but I believe it's just a phase. Sohyang could be experimenting or trying things, or maybe having temporary issue, such as health related or grinding like you said. So, she either had ended the experiment, or fixed/took care of whatever the issue/cause.

Finally - someone who knows and understands what he's listening to. Thank you for not talking during the performance. I understand the need for "fun facts" and they're much better than some kid saying "wow" or commenting on her dress every five seconds. Most people doing reaction videos look like they're going to sleep - not to awaken until the high notes. While her high notes are wonderful, the real beauty is to be found on the softer passages where her lovely tone is displayed. The fantastic straight tone at the end of the 1st 16 bars is absolutely beautiful. A word about her wonderful arrangements should also be given. I understand So Hyang and her husband write almost all of her arrangements. All in all, a great performance by a great singer - and a great reaction as well.

At first I was very shocked and surprised that there was a really amazing and fantastic singer in the world. I understand the issue with copyright, and ideally, you and we would be able to listen to the full song, but here it's best to pick the lesser of two evils. Fun facts break the flow way too much with drawn out silences, and while comments do somewhat the same, at least we're still getting your great insight (and helps cut down on video length). Cheers!

Hi Mark, I’ve just come across you when reacting to Jonathan Antoine & I am mightily impressed with both your knowledge & experience when critiquing these fabulous performers. What a beautiful performance by this lovely young lady &/such a great reaction. I would appreciate you reacting to a young Soprano by the name of Amira Willighagen who won Holland’s Got Talent at the age of nine without even a single singing lesson. I don’t agree to children attempting to sing opera arias for fear of vocal damage, but, this young person is truly the exception. Amira is now 16, but I draw your attention to her singing Ave Maria by Gomez at the Canisius Church at the age of 11. This performance shows the unique voice control & superb range Amira has for one so young & does so effortlessly using her natural voice without trying to sound like an adult which child classical singers tend to do. Please react to this incredible talent as she is simply amazing. I have subscribed to your Chanel, & keep up the great work. I’m impressed. ps.. Amira has an incredible story, so I hope you can come on board & enjoy what literally millions worldwide are enjoying.

I belong to a fan base club of hers on Facebook, Last month our administrator and another member went to South Korea to see her live and deliver roses and our letters we wrote to her. She is a wonderful beautiful God fearing woman. the interview was posted by my friend and the company of Kim SoHyang as well. Anyway, on my channel, I have over 90 of her music videos and several episodes of Immortal song 2 where she was on just now, it is a singing competition show where 7 of the best of South Korea gather to sing yesteryears songs. She eventually won that time and got the trophy its an awesome episode of many wonderful American pop Korean favorites. here is a link to another episode of Immortal songs with Kim SoHyang singing "You Raise me up" in a tribute to an Irish band of the 90 called Westlife and Shane Filan was the guest at that time. With her jaw moving to one side sometimes, I get the feeling that it is just 'boredom' - this stuff is so easy for her, and time must seem to go slowly during the less intense parts, that she mentally relaxes in some places and lets the jaw move. I also think maybe it is her way of mentally resetting herself for the next part. However it could also be tension I guess - as she can be paranoid and self conscious about her singing level, and used to wonder if she was good enough, even thinking of retiring at one stage. Believe it or not. She has mentioned health problems in recent times as well. THIS particular performance was actually part of a contest against other well known professional singers, on TV, and she did say she was exhausted afterwards, she was shaking. I believe she won as well. She participated in another of these contests, the Michael Bolton contest on tv, where she sang a So Hyang version of 'Lean On Me', which floored everybody, and she won that one as well, easily.

Mmm...I donot know it is just for Korea, but we using a term c5 for 3옥타브 도, d5 for 3옥타브 레 Carl who comment to me told already for this question.^^ Anyway I was not wrong. And some of Korean vocal trainer said she has whistle tone when she using few high note. C#6 or over E6 she use whistle technique and that sound more powerful. But this opinion is different between many people. One thing exact is Sohyang does not use whistle nowaday. But what I want to say is Korean almost does not use whistle including Sohyang. So I do not like people comparing Sohyang's vocal range to the other singers who use whistle range

@@whatthell I already know you do not want to say she is bad. But what I'm saying is just Korean almost doesnt use whistle. And i felt Sohyang use whistle technique little when she use headvoice. I felt sometimes a little whistle ton(not 100per) when she notes some E6 to A6(not all) but may not for you. And i know vocal range is nothing. So i said i want people to not compare vocal range to lower Sohyang. Anyway in first, i did not intend to mention Sohyang's whistle, for all Korean.

The informtion is nice, but stopping the music everytime you show it makes it kind of annoying and it also kills the build up of the music. Maybe have the text as a blurb beside the video simultaneously is a better option.

I just wanted to comment that there's something slightly weird sounding with the audio on this video. I can't quite tell what it is. It sounds just slightly muffled and like there might be 2 audio sources being overlaid with a slight delay creating a slightly out of phase effect, but I'm not exactly sure if that is what's going on. You might want to look into that and see if you can find something in your recording setup that might be causing that.

The continuous comments and breaks does not do credit to the beauty of her performance. This is an unbelievable performance by a non-English person and we should be left tot least enjoy and be entertained for just those few minutes! What a pity that you comments super seeded her fantastic performance and was made to be more important than her singing.

I think her jaw tension is probably from her bout of cancer when she was 20 or so. If it is, it's doubtless earned honestly from all the pain and stress she suffered. From comments I've heard on KZread, she almost fell over backstage after this performance due to all the emotion she poured into it. There are lengthier versions of this performance that show her exhaustion backstage. It is the same with her performance of Arirang. The Vimeo version of Arirang show her collapsing into a chair with her tongue hanging out backstage. She seems to have a great sense of humour about it all!

I see you're already getting lots of Sohyang reaction requests, but I really hope you do her version of 'Fate.' It's a song that doesn't have crazy Bb5s but it really showcases her stamina and play with dynamics. She sings certain syllables like a cry. It's a song that is very yearning. Because I love it so much, I'm recommending it separately from the long lists haha. kzread.info/dash/bejne/aH99rsaSgbXfh7A.html Edit: Here's another version of her singing 'Fate.' It is much lower quality audio that slightly harms the pitch and not so good for analytical purposes but I love it just as much: kzread.info/dash/bejne/X5eB2MmrndOco5M.html

Whether or not the singer's voice is more because of hard work, often practicing, discipline, and of course giving from God, but it has nothing to do with embracing a particular religion, music and songs are universal, anyone can sing whatever the type of song.
