The first metal bands they were given to them to learn were System of a Down and Rage Against the Machine. They were given by their teacher, who is a very progressive man who work in an Islamic junior high school. These bands changed their lives forever. They practiced in secret because their parents initially condemn girls for playing music, let alone heavy metal. Now after they performed regularly like 5 times a month, national coverage, and even international exposure, their parents can't forbid them anymore. Now that they have European tour this month, their village head announced it 'officially' to the whole village :D

the long melody that you find in VoB and SOAD is typical melody from middle eastern singing. Indonesia has been influenced with middle east culture since long time ago, including music.
