You talk about excellence/competence being a factor of how much you practice, that's true, yes, but talent is also a very significant factor. There are different degrees of talent, for sure, but talent is a very real element.

I always thought of the “it” factor being hard work and diligence

Thank you very much for this series! I have one question I can’t quite find an answer to (because I don’t even know enough to know where to look): I am writing my own songs and I am starting out as a singer (I am more into rap, but I would love to be able to sing hooks adequately and maybe incorporate singing in verses), I can’t quite understand in what pitch I should sing each syllable of my lyrics to make it sound good with the music. I heard it has something to do with the key of the instrumental (like E minor for example). Where can I read up on this?
