Just one thing, J-Hope is perfect! And it's not me saying it, but the other members of BTS. They said in an episode of "Run BTS" that Hobi's only flaw was that he didn't have any flaws. PS: When you have nothing to do, put on episodes of BTS's variety show, "Run BTS". In addition to getting to know their personalities better, there are programs that are comedy gold.

Hope one day you will find time to check the show "SUCHWITA" - it was made by Yoongi for all BTS members to promote and talk about their solo works. I think checking it would give you a lot of insight into who they are, what is their approach to music and performance, and the bond between each other. They are simply so sweet and loving and respectful toward each other - it is a blessing to witness it. As much as I like people getting to know BTS through fan-made guides, I feel like "SUCHWITA" opened the room to get to know members through their own voices and dynamics with each other rather than through what fans pick to show in their guides. Each episode is quite short but densely packed content, easy to enjoy. Hope one day you will check it.

People really need to realise that EVERY vocalist in BTS has work sooo hard and reach a point where you can say that they are all exceptional. They had training even before the debut but they never stop improving.

The fact that Tae thinks he isn’t as good as the other members still knocks me for six, this man’s voice is just incredible to me, the tone, richness and warmth just resonates with me, the fact that his nature is as warm and as sweet as his voice is even more beautiful. I can listen to him all day long. It’s nice to see people who know music, like you both, show him appreciation. 💜 oh, an interesting thing is that the Bing Crosby estate I guess, have liked V’s performance on instagram.

You must check out V’s live versions of his solo songs - Singularity and Stigma. V has the widest vocal range in the group and for a baritone, he is able to match the high notes of the tenors in the group. He has one of the most versatile vocal tones and effects like his growling. RM has said that V can sing any genre, he is that versatile. You’re going to love the tiny desk. V is a musicians musician. He gives time to the band to have their moment to shine. As he loves jazz and classical music this performance was what he envisioned when doing his album.

I was so delighted by your excitement especially Johnny. You are so right, V has so much respect and adoration for musicians and bands because he loves jazz and various instrumentation. You can tell how very happy he is in this performance. There's another jamming session with the same band. They are actually guest musicians- a few were flown in for this Tiny Desk Korea performance (off shoot of the original NPR Tiny Desk mini concert in the US). I think one of the vocalists is based in Seoul. These amazing musicians have played for so many American artists. I think they all became close with V. He is such an extraordinary and special person. A little tidbit V loves Cole Porter's song performed by Louis Armstrong and Bing Crosby - Now You Has Jazz from the musical High Society.😊🎉

I was looking for this reply - thanks, @alm9535! Tiny Desk NPR has been really good to BTS. BTS had a Tiny Desk (at Home) during the pandemic that does feature their regular touring band, Ghost. It's where the tag, "Tiny, but not so tiny concert" comes from. RM featured in a Tiny Desk for his solo album, Indigo (2023) where he also includes songs from both BTS and his other solo mixtapes. ^_^

Taehyung is very cultured musically. He has a love of jazz and neo soul, the blues etc. His voice naturally is a baritone, his vocal range E b 2 - D6. To hear his range Stigma is the song to hear and can be seen live too and Singularity showcases his gorgeous warm baritone. You guys gauged his personality well he is a real sweetheart.

His album Layover is V in a nutshell. The love for jazz, the artistic creativity, the old soul, the unique vibe, and the ridiculously intoxicating voice. I can listen to him sing anything. This is a great performance. If you ever are bored lol and want to watch all his MV's in order, the art that he puts into them is also amazing.

V is also an actor, which makes him really good at telling stories through his music. He has the ability to communicate the emotion of the song, just as does when he's acting. And he also plays the saxophone, which explains the respect he has for the musicians. The instrumental section in this performance is way longer than the studio version.

V’s Tiny Desk performance will give you the full measure of deep, smoky, honeyed baritone voice. Plus his love of jazz. This is completely different than what he does as a member of BTS. Seven members - seven different voices and musicalities. I can’t wait until you see how these seven come together in a BTS song. 💜 Welcome to ARMY. 💜 Now, deciding which BTS song to listen to first!

You say you had the wrong impression of BTS and Kpop in the beginning. Well I just want to reiterate, BTS are an anomily within Kpop. They are not like any other group and I would say they are not even a 'boyband' anymore. They would be best described as 7 different artists with different tastes who come together and make magic when they do! They can now sustain themselves as soloists but choose to be together. And in every promotion Tae has done over the last few weeks he is singing live every time. Amazing.💜

V's whole live gig setup, arrangements, and way of performing as a solo artist is so old school jazz. I love that he's keeping this particular kind of professionalism alive. I feel like he's going to introduce lounge jazz singing to multiple generations.

The mark of a true artist is when you are confident in your own talent that you are willing to shine your spotlight on others. V has genuine love for music & is most happy when he shines his own light on people around him. He appreciates & gives recognition to talents.

Yes Taehyung is such a sweetheart! He is the purest soul I have ever seen. We ARMYs often describe him as an old soul because of his love for period music. Thanks for the reaction, guys! I love the genuineness and good energy that you two exude. Hugs from Brazil 💜

V's love for music is no joke. His choices and presentation are elite. There's not a tingy percent of massy in V. He is just elite that way.

He’s the only baritone in the group and has the largest range. The Bing Crosby Estate often “likes” V’s posts, such as his “It’s Beginning to Look a lot like Christmas.” He has that melted dark chocolate voice that I love. 💜

If I remember correctly, the NPR performance in Washington DC had to be changed to Korea due to another Covid-19 outbreak, but the set looked just like the NPR Tiny Desk! I think V's performance at Tiny Desk Korea was also available on the NPR Tiny Desk channel.

I love how you can feel his sincerity and kindness just by watching and hearing him speak his mind. Above all things regarding Taehyung. His genuine self is what attracts him to me the most. He is my musician for real.

BTS is way beyond KPOP at this point.. They are at their 10th year in the business with over 900 awards up in their sleeves. And yes, it’s sad when people stereotypes them. But they have proven time and time again what they can do in terms of their musicality. Their discography is very vast and colorful. Live singing plus heavy choreography??? Damn.

This music is so quintessentially Tae....he is an old soul, and he loves this type of music, and his voice is so very suited for it.

Not only is he cool with letting the band have their moment. Look at his face. He's living his best life, and it's so nice to see.

Taehyung is not only singing but he’s a storyteller, his emotions in his voice really touch you ✨️🍫Everybody can sing, but not everybody can sing the way Kim Taehyung does. His husky, velvety and soulful voice is memorable and indispensable to so many! 💜

That’s V for you. His love for jazz, blues, classical music, and r&b. He has such a soulful voice that just pulls you in.

Уххх... я испытала НАИВЫСШЕЕ наслаждение, нереально КРАСИВЫЙ солист Ким Тэхён, абсолютно с ГЕНИАЛЬНЫМ исполнением, покорил меня до глубины души. Его голос глубокий и бездонный как океан, фантастически КРАСИВЫЙ вокал, МАСТЕРСКОЕ, ПРОФЕССИОНАЛЬНОЕ исполнение с отличительным и узнаваемым тембром голоса, не похожий ни с одним певцом в мире, он запоминается с первых слов его исполнения. Тэхён слитый с ВЕЛИКОЛЕПНОЙ и ПРОФЕССИОНАЛЬНОЙ командой музыкантов, он гордится ими, это меня очень порадовало. Атмосфера тепла и уюта, любовь витает даже в воздухе при виде КРАСАВЦА Тэхёна, при его фантастически красивом вокале и при мастерстве музыкального коллектива и бэк вокалистов, хочется к ним, хочется слушать Тэхёна и наслаждаться прекрасной игрой музыкантов. Я в полном восторге !!! Очень ВАЖНО то, что красавец Тэхён с лицом АНГЕЛА, сам испытывает наслаждение от своего пения и от игры музыкантов, это было потрясающе. You know what is precious about BTS live performances? They always have a good atmosphere and dynamic when they are on stage - with each other, with supportive dancers and band. You can clearly see that even though this tiny desk focus is on V, people who are there with him also have fun. It is so nice.

Still getting excited over this perf as the day it was released and even after watching this everyday. Please check out more of V's solo works and performances, as well as the rest of the BTS members. They have different flavors and colors. Thank youuuu!!

Why did i know you guys will like this hahaha. Seriously one of his best live performances. How many artists nowadays do we know who would take a step back & let the band have a long moment :). That band (note: his crew for his album not BTS) was chef’s kiss! And, one of the things I thought first listening to his album - honest. genuine. If you guys ever circle back to him, please listen to STIGMA (note: BTS members have solo songs within their albums & this is one of his). This one shows off his top range. And then LE JAZZ DE V (note: this is a live performance released as a gift to fans during their 10th anniversary). This one shows off his jazz baritone. He’s an old & gentle soul who was always into jazz soul r&b. He learned 🎷 when he was young & played a ‘lil in the band sessions (available in bangtan tv KZread channel), tried to learn trumpet & violin too. It’s truly amazing how all the members are so “individual” yet so cohesive when performing as a group.

Taehyung has a flavour of jazz in him. Even though layover is pop rnb, he has some jazz sprinkled in there which makes it so authentic to tae and his origin. His voice of course is just a magnificent fit for the genre. Just like this each member have their own influence which is reflected in their music. Jimin is influenced by artists like troye and usher... Jungkook is currently the classic pop star who takes influences from other pop stars Justin timberlake and Justin Bieber. Jin is leaning heavily into the coldplay style pop rock and the korean trot singing style. Jhope sounds mainly like 90s hiphop grunge mix of wutang, biggie and the new jcole. Namjoon listened to everything and he sounds like indie music mixed with pop. Agust d has both rock and classic hiphop style with a mix of piano rap. BTS as a whole sounds like everyone combined and mashed up together.

BTS does tend to work with the same musicians, but this band is specifically for this album with V. I suspect V wanted to get as many musicians with Jazz/R&B background since that's his vibe.

A lot of professional vocal coaches praise V’s vocal quality and skill which nobody can imitate. That’s Kim Taehyung . And legendary musician like Grammy winner Jazz musician Kurt Elling commented Taehyung as a sincere musician and opens the door for collaboration . Another Legendary Bing Crosby liked and posted Love me again.

V is a huge jazz fan. He is also a lovely person from all I have seen. He was on Suga's talk show, and they were both reminiscing about their journey and agreed that they were very lucky to be in a group with genuine, selfless, and kind members. They also spoke of looking forward to getting the team back together. Every member has had success with their solo projects. Reinforcing my belief, BTS is a group of tallented solo artists who choose to be a group. If you look further into V's solo work with the group you are going to see his range in his songs Stigma and Singularity. They have to be heard live to get the full picture and including the dancing and pageantry that is typical of Kpop, but in a way only BTS can deliver. I am so ready for you to catch a live group performance. You will love it.

Tae on stage shows so much emotion in live performances. But his vocal range is just insane, from deep growling to high notes people have often been shocked at what his voice can do. He is extremely down to earth and used to spend time just playing video games with ARMY.

There are 5 songs in his album and V said that they are meant to be listened to in the order as they appear in the album as they tell a story. Should check out the music video as well, as he is a great story teller not only musically but visually as well. My favourite from this album is actually "Blue". I would love for you to check out some of his older works as well - "singularity" was written specifically for him from one of his band member RM, Snow Flower, Inner Child, Stigma and Sweet Night, all of which he co-composed, to name a few. If you wanna check out his moves, check out "Smoke Dance Challenge BTS V", its a short clip thay show case his cool moves. Yeah, we love out Tae bear 🐻 and BTS and would love more contents about them!

Good choice! Love V’s solo work, it suits him and his voice and feels truely authentic …

V was mostly raised by his Grandmother, and I think this turned him into an old soul. He is such a unique person and I love the timbre of his voice. He does tend to sit on the bottom side of the pitch when he sings. When he was younger, he had a lot of pitch issues when he sang live. But, he's worked hard and really matured into a wonderful musician.

Glad you both enjoyed this live performance by V. V is the old soul of BTS with the smooth, warm and sexy voice tone. I think he is true to his love of jazz/R&B and it shows in his first solo album release.

This was lovely. V is such a vibe. His personality, his fashion, his taste in music, even his music videos. Such a satisfying pleasant aesthetic. I can't wait for you guys to explore some more. Jhope's lollapalloza performance (with subtitles) is such a joy too and a totally different take on music as well. I also CAN NOT WAIT for the Taylor guide!!

In Band Session, another live performance with the band and backing vocals, they are also sensational. And V plays the saxophone at the end of the performance. In "Le Jazz de V", his voice is incredible. Stigma, Singularity, Sweet Night. Oh! he sings opera too. The guy does everything. It's not just a beautiful face. I didn't know him. Now I love your voice and everything.

V has such a wide range !!! He is my favorite vocalist of BTS.. there is such a warm touch on his voice .. very distinct on his own but can he can reach as high range too, his low tone is to die for … watch stigma and singularity ! For me he is very authentic on his own and stick on what color and music he wants.. and this album shows his genuine heart and love for music.. he is a try artist .

Taehyung's relationship with his entire team (actors, dancers, the band, the staff) left me even more in love with that beautiful man🥹❤️ It's so cute to see him interact with everyone so naturally and so close. The work environment stops being work with him around, Taehyung makes people feel comfortable with him. He's someone so warm, with so much charisma, that his joy and enthusiasm is contagious, it's impossible not to adore him, not to smile when you see him happy, know someone like him or more precisely him is to win in life. More than co-workers, they end up becoming a beautiful family, who welcomed Taehyung and made him feel free, he enjoyed working with them so much that it comes across the screen. I can only thank the entire team who was with him for treating Taehyung with respect and affection, the result of that was seeing him with a beautiful smile in each behind-the-scenes video, sharing moments with the team, having a good time, and creating beautiful memories 🥹❤️

Tae loves music. All music. But he does have a special love, and appreciation, for Jazz. Whenever we get to see one of his playlists somehow, and it doesn't really matter how it starts, eventually he ends up with Etta James. And you really have to love a guy, in this day and age, who appreciates the classics.💜

Layover era is the happiest taehyung i have ever seen and at the end of the day, that’s really all that matters to me. will always be by taehyung’s side loving and supporting him as he further embarks on another new journey in the future, creating history and making new records.

V made a whole album of songs you want to perform in loose live sessions in a bar where the people listening get up and dance, you know? And you stop to shout out the band, and sometimes you decide it's a good night to add a whole verse without telling anyone and just figure they'll catch up. The audience loves it and laughs with you when you forget the words at one point and start singing about the people you can see in the crowd. It's perfect for this kind of intimate setting and these songs *belong* live. I really love that he's doing music that highlights everyone in the group - with instrumental solos! - and is clearly just so so fun to play. When he went on IU's show Palette he complimented the band several times and even attempted to poach them entirely 😂 it's a great interview and a really fun moment. He caught her off guard when he asked to steal her band 🤣

*if there’s a main takeaway from these Layover performances it should be realizing just how much Taehyung loves music and singing live* 💛💛💛💛

I've come to know them as a group first before getting to know their individual artistry. So I know what they're capable of together. But when you said that you both haven't even seen them dancing (while singing), that makes me wonder what if my first introduction to V is through this soul, jazzy songs--just like you guys--then someone told me that he can dance (street/hip hop) so good? I'd probably say there's no way...but here we are 😃 It's like a reminder for me, that it's not often that we get to see special talents like them. Cheers!

SUGA defined KPOP as integrated content: “‘K-pop includes not just the music, but the clothes, the makeup, the choreography…all these elements I think sort of amalgamate together in a visual and auditory content package, that I think sets it apart from other music or maybe other genres so again, rather than approach K-pop as it’s own genre I think approaching it as this integration of different content would be better.” That said, a song like Slow Dancing is not KPOP, it is just a heavenly R&B/Soul track. This band was assembled by V specifically for Layover promotions - and you can see how much he reveres this type of music and his sincere happiness that he is able to give his favorite type of music to ARMY💜

Your impression of him being sweet, genuine and warm is very true! It’s actually because of those personality traits of him that started my journey of becoming a V fan just in 2023. I came across him when I watched a reality show of his. Just additional info, outside BTS, you’ll find V on the 3 major streaming platforms: - Netflix (as an actor in a 2016 kdrama “Hwarang”), - Disney+ (“In The Soop: Friendcation”, an unscripted series following Wooga Squad, V’s close friends circle comprised of actors/musicians on a winter holiday), and - Prime Video (“Jinny’s Kitchen,” a reality show on 5 very successful and popular Korean celebrities (actors, actress and singer) trying to run a pop-up Korean restaurant in a small town in Mexico. V’s very genuine, gentle, sweet and naturally charming. Discovering his music, solo (prior to his masterfully done debut EP, Layover) and with BTS was secondary for me but it sealed me being a V fan. V has so much soul in his voice, his tone is rare, and on stage, he’s a total entertainer.

Perfection. We just love everything about V and about this album. Each member had their own promotion style that fit their releases. I love that V did a lot of live performances that were laid back and intimate. He just shines. Some folks were a little disappointed that he did not deliver a more theatrical performance vocally and dancing more on this album because he is able to do so. I love that he stayed true to the vision he had and that he promised he would deliver. He has plenty of time to deliver the charismatic flashy V when he is performing with BTS. Lord knows he has got that stage presence no matter what. I have been listening to this album and his performances on loop since they came out. I only wish the songs and the album were longer. A live version album would be snatched up in an instant. BTS and their members have grown so far beyond KPop.

"Jungkook" (and all Korean words with the letter J ) is pronounced with a short, hard J like in 'jump'. In fact you can even pronounce J a bit closer to a 'ch' sound. The letter J will never be soft or buzzy, never 'zzhung-kook". The sounds associated with letter Z don't exist in the Korean language. They don't have that letter. Funny bonus fact: They don't actually have a letter V either! In the Korean alphabet V's name is spelled "뷔" ( Bui) which are the letters ㅂ (b) ㅜ (u) andㅣ( i).

Your perception about kpop before is probably true, especially for the early days of kpop. I think the changes and genre diversity had grown over the years and i would say BTS has contributed greatly on that.

@evantesseract737 it's true. They used to separate other genres with "idol" music. I think when people say kpop, they generally think of the typical "idol" music. I feel like kpop is seen as more than that throughout the years because idols are exploring more types of sounds.

V has the sweetest, loveliest personality. He has calmed a lot as he got older, but I have always found his unique personality adorable. V's voice is what first hooked me and I am still here 3 years later 💜

Taehyung is such a great story teller I love he conveys his feelings , so different from anyone K-POP idol , and that’s awesome 🤌🎼💜

re: the band, this is a session band (I can't say "only" a session band, because they're a PHENOMENAL band). And interesting side note-- to really bring home that 70s vibe-- the sax solo at the end of "Slow Dancing" is a flute solo in the album version. :D V is a huge fan of jazz and R&B, and it's no surprise to ARMY that his first solo album reflects that. And it was a little harder to hear here because it's in the backing track, but the "vocal effect" you commented on in "For Us" is that the entire vocal track is sped up at the beginning. The "interesting journey" is when it's modulated back down to normal speed (which, to me, is one of the coolest and downright gutsiest effects I've ever heard on an album). Concerning his chest-to-head transition-- V's a natural baritone, but a lot of K-pop music for male groups is pitched for tenors (basically, where the average female fan's singing voice would be). V's upper range is VERY well-developed because that's where we usually hear him sing in BTS ensemble pieces. (And if you listen to any more of his solo songs from further back, you'll learn that he's got one hell of a falsetto.)
