Yes as many people here are saying, SoHyang is one of the greatest vocalist, impeccable technician on our planet but what makes her best of the best is that she is a real storyteller.. She is both powerful at techniques and emotions. And her life itself is inspirational as well. She is a cancer survivor and has been through so many illnesses so far but never gives up her singing, has been improving even in her 40s. Also she is a devout christian singer who really loves to sing for god rather than for money or fame. That's why we cannot see her often on TV or mainstream media of Korea. We can usually see her singing in churches or charities. I think she really deserves everything.

Sohyang is one of my absolute favorites. Her vocal ability is incredible but besides that, she makes you actually "feel" the emotion of the song too. Please do more by her! Lean on me is great too but you really can't go wrong with her.

I don’t think you understand the road you’re heading down if you keep reacting to her. She’s made me tear up more than any other singer. THE most beautiful voice I’ve ever heard and the songs she does are some of my favorite renditions

I am Korean. ‘Arirang’ means ‘contact’ or ‘to meet’. ‘Arariyo’ mean ‘I miss you’ or ‘lovesickness’ Korea is only divided country in world. Many family were town apart by the war. Dokdo is the easternmost island in Korea and first land invaded when it became Japanese colony. It is still fought about ownership between Japan and Korea. For Koreans, Dokdo is symbol of sovereignty. ‘Baekdusan’ is highest mountain in North and ‘Hallasan’ is highest mountain in South. It is also farthest north and south. Arirang song is known by both North and South, and both sing it in hope of meeting and coming together again. edit: this not my original comment. this comment is from another person! SoHyang has so many legendary performances. she has literally made vocal communities and experts crazy for praising her abilities😂 Her voice, dynamics, and those insane upper belting.. She maybe the best vocalist I've ever seen. Here's my recommendation of her mesmerizing renditions. "I have nothing" in DMC festival 2015 "O holy night" in I am a singer 2 "Everyone" in Immortal songs "Bridge over troubled water" in Immortal songs "Lean on me" in Immortal songs "You raise me up" in Immortal songs "Fate" in I am a singer 2 "Hug me" in King of masked singer "Mona lisa" in King of masked singer "Home" in King of masked singer

She's easily up there with Celine, Whitney, and Mariah... technique-wise, she's better than those three and I say that as someone who is a die hard Celine fan.

@@pelasion5099 Firstly I want to clarify that I am a Sohyang fan. Secondly I do agree that her tone is not special like Ariana's and such but do you really think that tone wins everything? Yes tone is important because it makes the songs more melodic. However Sohyang proved that technique is more important than tone. Also Sohyang's tone has improvised through her techniques. Lastly her voice is definitely not screechy. Have you heard ever before of a screech? I wish I could screech like her so then I won't sound like a fork being traced on a glass. I do respect that somebody will not like Sohyang's voice because obviously we cannot be liked by everyone. But it is totally irrelevant to say that she hasn't got a voice. For example, I don't like Mariah's voice but I will not say that she doesn't have a voice because that's untrue.

that transition at 7:35, i dont care what anybody says i’ve never heard anybody else even attempting such feat. i could go on further that most singers wont even think about it

So Hyang is the best female vocalist I have heard in a rather long life. The combination of her range, power, breath, dexterity and emotional conveyance is unmatched by any other I've ever heard. There are a few that have one or two songs that come close but this woman's performances are again and again incomparable. I love Whitney, Lara Fabian, Lisa Fischer, Eva Cassidy and many other females singers (they are my favorite), but this woman is my favorite. I know a lot is an opinion, but her technical mastery is not opinion, it is fact! Thanks for your reactions to her over the years.

Actually, Arirang is Korean folk song. And Arirang has many versions depending on the region. Sohyang arranged this song and added more techniques. *RIGHT, SHE IS A REALLY AMAZING SINGER*

One of the things I love about So Hyang is when she sings you rarely hear her inhale or exhale on the mic ... I know sometimes this is a stylistic emphasis on songs and she does it herself but unless the song calls for it it is not there she is just flawless from note to note... A prime example of her breath control.

Great reaction Justin. I learned a lot. As a non-singer, learning about the voice deepens my enjoyment. Sohyang can handle many styles with the same virtuosity you heard in Arirang. A couple of my favorites were recorded on King of Masked Singers. In Dear Love she tears you heart out over her broken love. In Mona Lisa she becomes a rock star (using every note in the 5th octave). I think the mask actually focuses more attention on her technique since she has only her voice to tell the story. (Use the Vimeo version of both if you listen to them.)

Arirang, Korea with a long history, was registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site on December 5, 2012. In the lyrics of this song, the East Sea and Dokdo appear, showing that it is the territory of Korea.

Love Sohyang. Most of the songs recommended here are great songs by Sohyang. Her covers in competition are always spectacular as they are rearranged. You can check out her O Holy Night, since this is the Xmas season. She sang it first in the I Am A Singer 2 competition way back in 2012. One of the best cover of this song ever.

She is so underrated and I want her to release more songs of her own. Her voice control is amazing and I always wonder if that vocal can be exist in this world... I feel like her technique has its own rule and so that she can reach the note without harming her throat. she is not screaming or just pushing the sound with the power. It might took lots of practice and patience to make her so comfortable when she pulls out her energy through her vocal.

I didn’t know about her until I had watched this performance about a year and a half ago and I still get goosebumps and teary eyed while listening to it because she puts so much emotion and power in her voice. I also recommend Park Hyo Shin’s Wildflower (the mv is a one shot performance in the desert). The song is really meaningful to him and so he and the pianist in the video wrote it together. It symbolizes the hardships he had with his past companies that overworked him, the song is after his 4 year hiatus. He is one of my favorite male soloists

Her technique alone is breathtaking, and should serve as guides for future generations to come. Her artistry and emotions will take you places you have never even contemplated existed. Look up the other Korean powerhouse Ailee's live performances. She is amazing! Also I don't think theres been a time when I've listened to Arirang Alone without getting goosebumps at the very least. The emotions she can communicate with is amazing. Like in this song you felt light and happy to passion to almost a kind of desperation and then end on that light hopeful section. Especially when you know the history of the song and how close to the hearts it is to Koreans. It's pretty much their unofficial anthem.
