When I think of 1980s love songs Richard Marx is part of that era! He is definitely an accomplished musician-songwriter! Cool video Subd 👍

Singers without autotune, y'all. Richard Marx is awesome. He is truly an awesome singer/songwriter and performer.

Saw him about 2 years ago in Ft. Lauderdale in a theater. It was literally just him and an acoustic guitar. He killed it. I thought I was going to be disappointed because of the lack of band but he was unbelievable. Plus with the intimate setting he spoke a lot about the motivation for writing a lot of the songs of his we love. That dud still sounds exactly the same. Vocals are spot on and clean as can be

Always loved Richard Marx! 🥰

His song 'Right Here Waiting' inspired my love for music. I first heard the piano version of it at a wedding when I was 4 -- it's the thrilling moment/sensation that I can't erase.

Thanks for doing this review on Richard Marx. He's one of my favorite singer/songwriters. I agree with what you said about his singing. I laughed when you mentioned his mullet back in the '80's. I have an interview with him where he says it took him 45 minutes to whip it into submission. LOL. He's written a lot of songs for himself and others and has produced other peoples albums. He's great live. I've seen him a couple times and he's funny and serious and a great storyteller. We could use more songwriters like him these days. Songs that have a message and not a lot of bad language in them. Thank you again for covering Richard.

Gotta love Richard. Saw him a few years ago in Ft Lauderdale Florida in a theater. It reminded me of VH1 Storytellers. It was just him and an acoustic guitar. The voice held up after all this time. The guy is a giant of a songwriter and he’s a lot of fun. Really cool to watch and listen to him

Oh I love Richard Marx!! He was very popular when I was about 21 and 22 and about the time I was pregnant and had my first child. Thank you!! At the time he was one of my favorite solo male vocalists. Richard Marx is always on pitch!!

Richard still is making new music and just released a new album about a week or two ago. I think a single off of this new album even charted. Regardless of charts or any of that kind of stuff, I’ve always enjoyed Richard’s music.

I was thinking Chicago as well... Also, noticed someone make a connection similar to a Bryan Adams feel. Both should be giant compliments, but this guy... standing tall on his own merit. Nice review, Ken.

This song is genius. He's a great singer and songwriter, quite underrated in my opinion. what I love about this song is how it starts off one-way and then the bridge totally switches it up in another key and then it has you yearning for the chorus back once again so by the time you get to the end it really draws you into it! ..... and after I wrote this and listened to the rest I noticed you said the same thing which makes me very happy lol 😊

Hi Ken and Bob! The mullet is still a very popular hairstyle and I think it's time that we all jump on the band wagon. While visiting Pennsylvania I noticed a lot of both men and women rocking mullets in a local Walmart store and I realized that they must still be training hairdressers in that particular haircut at beauty schools all across Pennsylvania. Each mullet was more fabulous than the next. Richard Marx and his band were not only extremely talented singers, song writers and performers but also pioneers in popularizing what can be considered one of the sweetest and most confusing hairstyles of all time...the mullet. Thank you Ken for not only bringing attention to Richard Marx's awesome singing and song writing talent but also to his and the band's beautiful hair cut. For those about to rock (the mullet)...we salute you!

Just saw him perform last month in Lake Charles, Louisiana. He was on an acoustic tour with Rick Springfield. His range and pitch are still spot-on. Age 60 must be the new 40! Such a great singer/songwriter... Great assessment, Ken! Very enjoyable!

Richard Marx is in my opinion the best writer, performer, and has just the best way with melody.

I'm sure you know this already, but I was shocked when I found out that he wrote "This I Promise You" by NSYNC. There is a video of him singing it on KZread. That's how I figured it out lol

Richard was my absolute favorite singer/musician for about 25 years of my life, from when I was around 12 until just a few years ago (and even today he's still near the top of my list). Honestly, singing along with his songs is how I learned to sing, and he's also one of the biggest reasons I started writing my own songs, too. Thanks for such an awesome reaction! Really nice to see the amazing works of Richard Marx still being acknowledged. This live concert was obviously recorded decades ago when he was still topping the charts performing his original songs. While his biggest hits have been sung by other artists in the last couple decades, most of his best original albums have been released since the 2000s. While he does now transpose many original keys down in concerts, he is one of the few singers I can think of who sounds better live than in the studio. He has worked with countless other greats and always sounds the way so many wish they could. His vocal abilities, songwriting, instrumental skills, and polished producing are a combination that make him one of the greatest singer/songwriters of all time. I hope he will keep at it as long as possible and that more audiences continue to be introduced to his undeniably spectacular artistry.

I have always loved Richard's song, "Hazard." A haunting "story" song. So good.

Had a huge crush on Richard Marx in the day lol tied with Jon Bon Jovi and Billy Idol..only saw Billy Idol in concert tho. My favorite of his was Hazard. Love his voice..gets you in the feels for sure.

Richard Marx is awesome! No doubt a crooner of the 80s-today. When Kenny Marks came along, when wearing his band tshirts especially with autographs , I often got asked, is he related to Richard Marx? ;) (I honestly knew Kenny's music before Richard's lol) It was fun talking about how nice Kenny Marks was (RIP Kenny Marks). As for Richard's hair, I remember Mtv clips way back showing him teasing his hair and flipping it back! lol ...80s, had to be there!

I love seeing you do these singers that I was enamored with in the 80's and 90's. It really takes me back to happier days. Thank you.

This song dropped back in 1988-89 when I was a senior in high school. Repeat Offender is the album, I think. I've been a fan of Richard's since 1987 when his debut dropped with Don't Mean Nothing, etc, etc. I'm 51 now and was hoping that Kayla Reeves would come back into the studio to do those two songs (Don't Mean Nothing & Hold On To The Nights). BTW Ken, that woman in the front row of that show singing along with Richard and the band in this video still gets me all choked up, then and now.

I never realized Richard Marx was so great until now! Awesome Vocals! Billy Ocean Caribbean Queen please ;)

Richard Marx is a Chicago dude, far northside, basically where the Brat Pack Movies (Breakfast Club, Pretty in Pink, etc) and Home Alone Movies was filmed... and not far from Cornerstone Fest's original stomping grounds, of course traffic takes forever and a day lol. :)

Big fan of Richard Marx. Not sure when I first heard him, but the second I heard him I liked him. Great Songwriter / Singer / Performer. The Mullet was never declared an endangered species, both Richard Marx and Billy Ray Cyrus traded theirs in for new hairdos. Richard Marx's music is still relevant today. Great Lyrics and Great Compositions never go out of style. 20 years from now, people will still be listening to Richard Marx. Ken thanks for sharing this. You described Richard's singing style with his throat pinched down, it explains his unique 'sound'. I have always admired his voice. I don't sing that way, but I can appreciate Richard's style that much more now. He also has great vocal range, breathing, and dynamic physical delivery style that engages the audience. You can have best voice in the world, but if you can't deliver it effectively, you will loose your audience.

Great song, and this live version is much better than the album version. Richard kills it here.

Hey, Ken . Thanks for posting some of your influences from the 80's and 90's, great stuff. A couple of suggestions here: 1) The Cars doing Live Aid in honor of Rick Ocasek's passing (even though I'd like to see you react to "Drive" or "Just What I Needed", which were sung by Benjamin Orr. 2) Van Halen (with Sammy) doing either "Can't Stop Loving You" or "When It's Love".

I love reactions like yours, especially someone who knows what what they're talkin' about 🙂 I just love Richard's raspy voice. I was tearing up watching/hearing the transitions to the key change even when I've listened to this song billions of times haha. That reminds me, Angelia has a similar up rising too! *hinthint
