Vocal Coach Reacts To Motley Crue - Kickstart My Heart - Ken Tamplin

Музыка

Vocal Coach Reaction To Mötley Crüe - Kickstart My Heart - Ken Tamplin
Mötley Crüe was one of a number of heavy metal bands to come out of the LA music scene that I crossed paths with.
Founded by bassist Nikki Sixx, drummer Tommy Lee, lead singer Vince Neil and lead guitarist Mick Mars, the band has sold 100 million albums worldwide, making them one of the BEST-SELLING bands of all time!
Their first official gig together was at the Troubadour in LA where they set a record for attendance.
All four original members have lasted from start to finish with the exception of one album.
When Mötley Crüe started performing, the lineup consisted of singer Vince Neil, guitarist Mick Mars, bassist Nikki Sixx, and drummer Tommy Lee which were the same four members on their retirement tour.
That makes almost 34 years that the band had a consistent lineup. There was one point where that lineup was splintered when the band fired Vince Neil and replaced him with John Corabi for one album. However, Neil returned and has been with them ever since.
The song for today’s reaction is “Kickstart My Heart”. The song refers to a heroin overdose Nikki Sixx suffered where he was declared dead from an overdose. However, paramedics continued working on him and gave him adrenaline, bringing him back to life. Sixx claims he had an out of body experience at the time.
Following the experience, Mötley Crüe released the biggest album of their career, Dr. Feelgood, featuring this song.
Be sure to checkout these versions of the song from my students:

Your diplomacy is outstanding. It's clear that Vince is not at the top of his game here, and you did everything you could to avoid slamming him. Well done.

That's one way to look at it. I wouldn't particularly want anyone slammed, but I think honesty is more important than diplomacy, and in all honesty, coming from a Motley Crue fan, Vince's performance was terrible, and he has lost any strength of vocals that he ever had, and please correct me if I'm wrong, but from what I have seen, he never could quite hack it live.

I strongly agree, great guitarrist. Whenever he plays live, the guitar sounds as if it was a studio recording, but it's not, he's amazing. Favorite guitar solos: Home Sweet Home, Girls Girls Girls, Looks That Kill, Dr. Feelgood, Same Ol' Situation, Take Me To The Top and Too Young To Fall In Love. Another great and underrated guitarrist is Neal Schon from Journey. He played with Santana at the age of 16, and founded Journey in 1975. Favorite guitar solos: Still They Ride, Send Her My Love, Stone In Love, Who's Crying Now, Faithfully, Separate Ways, Anytime, Feeling That Way, Lights, Of A Lifetime, Mother Father, La Raza Del Sol, Only The Young, Wheel In The Sky, Edge Of The Blade, After The Fall, When You Love A Woman, La Do Da, Ask The Lonely, Chain Reaction, Winds Of March, and Back Talk.

Compared to seeing them in the late 80's Vince is singing better. So sad. He trailed off lyrics on all his songs way worse than this video when I saw them. This was in Germany and it was basically a gymnasium with the pullout bleachers. It was so bad. I wanna say it was Ufo and Dokken in the show. Ufo stole the show. I really like Crue but that was a terrible outing for them.

This was the most enthusiastic I’ve seen you. It’s so obvious that you truly love music. I can’t thank you enough for your heart and what you’ve done for my singing. I have all of your material and it is like an endless supply of gold. Practicing the basics for years now I can wake up and after a glass of water and 15 minutes bouncing on my Cellerciser I can go to my piano and sing in full voice, loudly, a three octave chromatic scale on one breath up and down. Every singer from a 14 year old kid to Robert Plant right now can improve simply by doing what you teach. Peace and love to you and yours on this first day of summer. Thank you, Ken.

Well that overdose story is wrong. That's not one story. It's two stories. The lyrics "valentines in London, found me in the trash" was from the UK, where he started to OD. He claimed a dealer beat him with a baseball bat, which is nonsense. No dealer would do that, they would know it wouldn't do anything other than maybe kill the guy. But he likely would dump in the bins. As a struggling addict for 20-odd years I have seen this kind of thing happen. The other story, where he was injected with adrenaline, was from when he overdosed in LA. Slash was allegedly there, and he put him in the shower and called the paramedics.

My band opened for them in Northern Alberta , Canada in 1981, they were promoting their independent release on Leather Records. They got booed off the stage and the crowd was chanting for my band to return to stage. I had a few drinks with Tommy Lee after the show and I asked him "how do you keep playing when the crowd reacts like that" His response we don't give a flying F---- what these people think, we know we have something great going on, they can go f---- themselves.. .. 6 months later I remember watching MTV(new at the time) and there they were in heavy rotation on MTV and signed with Electra. They took it seriously!

Ken you are fantastic with the talent skill and knowledge you invest into this channel, we all appreciate you!! As far as Vince Neil , whew his actions caught up to him and it shows in his performance even in that video. He and his boys were in pain struggling to get through that concert. None of them looked too happy to be there. In fact they looked like the worse case of hung over i ever seen in rock stars. I do know that his wife put him in rehab but we all were watching his progress i think it was on reality tv back in a day , and his transformation was outstanding. I will be honest i didn't believe he would pull through , i thought the show would end half way through his journey for a funeral. I was relieved for his sake he made it. Being gen X i still find it so hard to wrap my mind around the fact that Vince is Neil Dimond's son from Sweet Caroline song we all fight off a tear or two , to head banging to Kick start my heart. I still just sort of blink a few times with a blank face expression. I'm just thankful i had enough self respect to not sell my soul for just a decade or two to of fame. That's gotta bite dirt in the end. Peace out my friend!

Tom Clarke Actually he’s hitting notes. He can’t really pronounce the words, but he can sing. If he would’ve gotten rid of his breath problem, he would’ve rocked the stage. As a matter of fact, he’s working on that right now for his new tour. So, I think Ken is being fair.

Now Vince isn’t in the best of shape, but he went out there and sweat those lyrics onto that stage. Vocals is a tough spot for any singer in the game as long as these fellas.
