I can’t get enough of this song. It instantly just hit me in the face and wasn’t expecting such a good entry from Ireland! I have to admit I cried when listening to it I just find it such an emotional song🇮🇪

Maybe it's your headphones but I can hear her clearly but I agree that her voice is so produced PLUS her melody is being played by instruments too. It's one of my favorite songs from eurovision !!!

The reaction to the Irish entry across all platforms has been very positive....something that really hasn’t been felt this century. I love our entry, I think it’s very strong and I think it could very much qualify from that tough semi final. That being said, there is so far an absence of a live vocal performance, so we really don’t know yet if she can deliver the song live as intended. Maps might be heavily produced and her vocals ‘enhanced’ on the track but it might be an easier song to deliver than Story Of My Life last year. I do love hearing an expert opinion about it though so thank you👍🏻😉

Yeah that's my worry. After her a Story Of My Life performance on the Late Late Show I was kinda glad Eurovision had been cancelled last year and thought we had received a stay of execution. I hope that her performance last year was just an off day and she knocks it out of the park in the semis.

Must say it's an absolute education listening to you and hearing your comments on this song and performance. You practice what you preach as every word from you was crystal clear and your critique was done in a very pleasant manner. Bravo!

Nope, the sound levels were even worse at the Eurovision Semi-Finals last night, and her voice was very weak. Just telling the truth.

I completely agree... Its shame that we can barely listen to her... It also sounded like there was some sort of voice modifier because last year she sound less "pushy". I like the lyrics but the loud instrumentals makes it very irritating almost.

You should react to some of her live shows during lockdown, shes well able to sing. Obviously the studio version will be different to the live version, as will all entries but its still a banger

Maps is still one of the best ESC 2021 songs, Lesley is such an amazing songwriter & person💚

I noticed she was quiet in the mix too...not sure why they did that. Hope it's up a bit when they go to Amsterdam.

Chris here from English band Fosteur. You are quite right about the production and I hope it will better live and hope her voice holds up, cos she is giving everything. This is a nice song though and very Irish. All of these productions are Universal Music - which means horrible low-dynamic recordings. Some songs sounding better live than the recordings. Looking forward to seeing this lady the final.

I really love this song and think it's a great improvement from last years entry. I do agree I think the production does take over a bit and her voice gets a bit lost. She has a great staging director so im very excited to see how this translates to the stage!

Totally agree. Being from Ireland I think this is our best entry in years but the song is over produced. She has a great raspy voice but the music overpowers her.

Yup, she seen her career fail to take off in the late 00s and early 10s the way people expected. Such a down to earth and talented artist. Hope she does well and it boosts her career. Great songm

I love that you are doing these! However in my experience as an ex vocal coach, I can never call it! The ones I like with the best vocal don't seem to make it. Who knows what makes a winning song? I can't fathom it.

It’s a song contest (all originals) that has been running for over 50 years for countries in Europe (and some others e.g. Australia) - there are about 40 countries that compete. The 2019 winner Duncan Lawrence’s song Arcade has gone viral on TikTok

Such a shame with this song. Was one of my faves but it didn’t even manage to qualify which is shocking because it’s a fab song but unfortunately I wasn’t surprised. Totally agree with the comments about production. First time I heard it I was like ooo I love it as a song but the vocals aren’t strong/ loud enough in the mix and her diction could have been better. Such a shame, I kinda want them to re- produce/ re-record it??

Agree about production.Often,there's no clarity in the words.For a multilingual audience,this could be a big drawback.Good drive and oomph to the catchy chorus.Contender,if production is radically changed.Thin out the upper tinniness,and boost the bass drive,as you say.Super analysis.

I totally agree with this review, the message is totally lost in a shoddy overproduction. It makes the track sound busy and annoying. Won't make the final, this. 😕

The mixing will probably be different for the contest though. It was already different at the Late Late Show premiere. And the issue isn’t so much overproduction as much as a mixing issue... all the instrumentation is appropriate and the vocals could sound strong, but the levels are all off.

Love your reactions. I agree with the production. I agree if her vocals are good, live may make it better. Tough semi final, so I dont think we will qualify.

You're so right. The song isn't bad, but it's totally overproduced, what is really sad, because I love the chorus and the dynamic of the beat. The final Mixer in the studio did not a good job...

i'm a mediocre producer, but i could have mixed this better myself.

I’m glad you are highlighting these issues - it bothers me how hard it is to hear her singing. This sort of mixing is probably standard for metal and classic rock recordings but not appropriate for a modern pop song. The track really could use a remaster.

I dont still understand why katy perry sounds like Lesley, i mean Katy isnt bad she is famous and one pf the best singers on american

Her voice also sounded quiet and weak in the live performance in the Eurovision Semi-Finals last night. The song was way too big for her voice, and it wasn't even a very good song anyway. The song she was meant to enter in last year's Eurovision, 'The Story Of My Life', was FAR SUPERIOR and, in my opinion, that song would have WON (if last year's Iceland entry wasn't such a good song). In the recording of the song 'Maps', it sounds like her voice has been Autotuned because her voice sounds almost robotic compared to her voice in last night's performance.

the mix is so bad I cant hear her clearly which is a real shame😭 I didnt like her entry but this year is my winner so far! Another concern is that I dont think she can handle the song live...

Ireland has sadly been doing very badly in Eurovision during the 2000s. I feel that this song is a slight return to form. Lesley’s 2020 song was very dated and boring. 2019 was very disappointing. 2018 was a lovely entry, but it was not perfect. Both Lesley’s entry feel dated and like Katy Perry’s old songs.

Katy perry’s old songs are best, these are nostalgic songs from every other american artist from 2010s and they srent outdated, they are good and its npstalgia nothing else.

Thought this review was pretty spot on tbh. I think it's a fantastic song but the bombastic production does drown out Lesley's vocals. Brutally honest? I don't think Lesley was the right singer for this song. She's a good singer but it's just too big for her IMO. Nevertheless, I'm gutted it didn't make the finals, but sadly Lesley's vocals were to be brutal very poor at the semi-final. Such a shame

i thought last years Ireland entry was quite dated like it was Avril Lavigne circa 2007 but this song is even worse, it is Jason Derulo levels of Autotune that you cant even hear a vocal. They may as well have the Crazy Frog fronting the song.

pity she was often out of tune in the 'live' performance.

It was awful.

This a was very weak song and done nothing for the Irish reputation in Europe. Quoted 150/1 by the bookies. Her performance was not great and the song did not help. People built this song up, to be Irelands best chance in years, We have better talent and writers . Why this song was chosen is a mystery, Since her song for last year was again very bad and would not have qualified for the 2020 competition. Anyone who said this was a great song, should get their hearing examined. She tried??

In my opinion it is not good enough. I know Eurovision these days is more about a gimmicky visual performance on stage but the vocals need to be 100% there. This is a poor song imo.

I am Irish and this is awful. It is so bad it is embarrassing I would rather we sent no entry this year.

What is a eurovision song supposed to sound like? Think of all the trash over the years that actually won And one could not make out or hear the words clearly.If its catchy number and the singer looks hot people will vote for it Any song that makes you get up and dance to is perfect for eurovision The u k entry is a no no The singer is a poor choice For uk
